  • In this compilation video, Dr. Visnjevac (Dr. V) outlines what a transitional vertebra is and when it would show up on an MRI. He also examines what it looks like with a real MRI, the impacts it can have on a patient, and how it is typically treated.

I broke my Lumbar 5 ,2023 May.It' going to be one year. I came to know I have 6 lumbar bones. After physiotherapy exercise and belt support in 4 months, it joined back, but still, I have pain now. My pain started after childbirth, but I knew that I had extra lumbar bones when I did the X-ray .So how will I reduce pain.Is there chances of the bone break again?

Nope… as an extremely fit personal trainer I can tell you lack of exercise did not cause my symptoms. Yes I was born with this, but I didn’t get severe pain and stiffness until I was 37. At the time I was regular running, practicing yoga, circuits, etc and I STILL got symptoms. In fact, i am fairly sure it was all the training with made mine worse. I have a pseudo arthrosis on one side only which caused asymmetry, I have herniated discs, arthritis and severe muscles imbalances. Yoga aggravates this condition. Sadly I’m now limited to swimming and Pilates but I do manage the condition with Pilates and swimming… As a member of a support group, a lot of sufferers were previously very active too…

Sorry I missed your reply, I had surgery for the same condition recently. You are not stupid, the doctors you met have not kept up with developments and were not taught this in school. In the USA, there are a number of doctors with good knowledge of LSTV that create BS. Dr. Jenkins, Dr. Steinmetz, Dr. Haines etc.

Should you not do heavy barbell deadlifts and squats knowing you have this?

Yes, I did lots of lifting before I was aware I had this, it’s caused lots of damage later in . Stay strong and exercise but be very careful!
