Back in the days when I was breeding aquarium fish, I would have loved an adventure like this!
Im in a wheelchair now so even taking care of a single take is difficult. I used to keep 30 tanks, most of them large, i loved breeding fresh water species. I miss the sound of the bubblers, the glow of the lights, getting up in the morning and discovering new babies.
I had that Discus book! Infact I think I had that entire book series on all the cichlid species, I had books on live bearers, on cat fish & plecoes, on anything that was fresh water... My dad grew up in texas breeding angels. used to show angels & mollies. First fish he ever bought me to get me started was a matched pair of 3" long black velvet sailfin mollies. I loved them.

The joy of watching you guys success on this expedition is enormous. This is so encouraging, I do my own research on Mexico creeks and I have seen incredible things as well, cichlids living on thermal waters ( 36+ celcius) and even fish in seasonal springs that are so rare and unique. Thank you guys.

I have been living here in Colombia for long time now. I am surprised you could go into that area as I've always heard theres lots of guerilla.
Theres a type of weed killer they use in cattle fields. Doesn't kill grass only broadleaf plants. Off the shelf stuff, it a volatile substance with means at certain temperature it evaporates and becomes airborn. Generally it's not common that insecticides are used on grass cus they don't need it. Not roundup. I don't thing we really know to full extent what it does ecologically.
That area is done for, greed is eating it all up. But that climate, rainfall is becoming unstable. Without that of course grass doesn't grow. Cultavations suffer food prices skyrocket and that is the reality at this moment.
Theres a lot of that land for sale now.thousands of hectares. It is a ecological disaster. And everybody seems to be helpless watching it unfold.
I'd say the west coast of Colombia would be better time spent.its not good for cattle. But safety is a issue saying that theres are some areas a person could go.

I stumbled on this video after letting my auto play keep playing random videos. I wouldn’t have seen this video otherwise but I’m so glad I was lead to it. This video was so incredibly well put together, and what an eye opener too. I loved seeing how excited he’d getting exploring for fish, seeing how passionate he is about what he does for a living. It’s incredible. What an incredible video you made.

FINALLY somebody who sees the value and beauty of Freshwater fishes! At every hobbyist convention i’ve gone too, Freshwater keeping is treated as the beginners area. It’s so difficult to find people as serious and passionate about freshwater fishes and tanks as people are about saltwater fishes and tanks. Even the only other person in my family who keeps fish just keeps telling me to get a saltwater aquarium. The cost is only half the reason i refuse. There’s just not enough appreciation for the kind of beauty a freshwater tank can give you. Someday when budget permits, I’d like to make an aquarium stocked with all the most colorful plants and fish available in the freshwater hobby! I’d love to show people that freshwater tanks can be just as colorful as saltwater tanks. I think if more people had this goal, the freshwater community could give the saltwater community a run for its money. Maybe we’d be more appreciated then? Freshwater for life~

Such great content. I’ve been keeping fish for over 50 years. Mostly freshwater. The fish you guys found are great. The blue reminds me of the blue acaras. That same shiny blue. I hope someone can collect enough specimens before they disappear so they can be bred for conservation and the pet trade. With the current trend of aquascaping these fish I’m sure would be highly sought after.

This content and all of its participants deserve tremendous respect and admiration ! What Heiko said about the vast losses of natural wonders without knowing its story is so sad and angering at the same time. Human activity now seems to be only about commerce; the appreciation for the treasures around us is being lost more and more each day, or as Heiko says, " every minute" !
Thank you George, Heiko and everyone who aided in this making and sharing of this amazing and wonderful content :)
Perhaps Heiko and you George may consider exporting fish to Trinidad. It's where I'm from and our hobby is presently limited to the most basic of species. Guess I'll subscribe now :)

"Those aquarists who say we shouldn't take the fish out of nature, leave them in nature. They don't know what they're saying"
I wish more people understood the ecosystem like Heiko. Sure, removing fish from an ecosystem can be bad, but preserving a species that is inevitable to go extinct is also something our hobby has shown it's capable of doing. That's something saltwater and freshwater aquarists can both agree on.
