Some hints: 1.You have to apply the parking brake in order to switch of all lights completely. 2. you can switch of the screensaver in the settings menu to disable the media screen by long pressing the volume button. 3. you have to deactivate ADS (automatic defogging system) by long pressing the „front window defrosting“ button. If not, the ADS will increase air flow to the window while you are dreaming :) 4. you can switch off „heat“ and use A/C instead. So the heat pump will be used only to save energy. 5. you can use the „emergency“ key or something else to unlock the trunk from the inside. Thats the ioniq camper mode :-)
Awesome tips! Do you by any chance know of any way to do this and be able to lock the car / leave the car without the risk of anyone going for a joyride? Sometimes it would be nice to have the heat on without it being plugged in.
themystic Every door can be locked from the inside. Im not sure about the trunk but i guess they would have to climb over you when you are sleeping then.
Could you lock the car and then place the key in an RFID wallet ... therefore the car won't see it so the doors wouldn't unlock when the handle button is pressed? Or would this cause the "key not in car" beeper to go off continually?
I slept 14 days in the 38 kWh Facelift model like a King.😅 We drove from middle Germany to Nordkap. Two Facelift Models, two dudes. It was such a great experience. (6400 km) 👍 I got a 1,80m x 1m mattress it perfectly fits in the ioniq. I slept so good the whole Trip.. like a baby.
I love every single video you make. You're just a great character and you make everything informative and fun with your occasional "sheeeit"s. I can't even drive, but I appreciate all of your videos because of your awesome personality. Keep it up Bjorn :)
1. You forgot that Ioniq has air wents not just in rear footwell, but also between the back of the front seats in the middle. That should give you enough heat at the back. I don't think you would find many cars that would heat the luggage compartment. 2. If you plan to use such a car for sleeping (on many occasions) I'd fabricate a wooden or hard plastic board to be laid on top of the folded rear seats back and on it's front side attached a hook or strong band on both sides that run across the front seat headrest rods. This would leave you the packing space behind the front seats while giving you firm support for head and upper body. 3. I never saw you using a heatable seat cover. You can get those cheap, with good ones having multiple heating levels and some even with overheat protection. You just plug them into the 12V sockets and voila: no more cold feeling even in the back. 4. Go into a trucker shop. They have many good stuff for mobile living, since truckers often do sleep in their trucks... as you know. ;o)
Hi Björn, again, such a great video! :-) And yes, you can camp in this one with two (middle aged) people (50+ and 1.80m) ! We did this already on a roundtrip in Europe (Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium). With fair weather to be frank, so no heating needed. Open windows, doors covered with elastic mesh cloth. Ideal view: trees and birds, or water :-) Luggage in the car, when ready for sleeping, the exactly fitted boxes and crates are placed on the floor with a slight tilt to match the folding back seats, 2 thick folding matrasses, sturdy foam: 2.00 x 0,65 x 0,10 fit easily with the chairs completely pulled forward. a 5-minute job :-) We cut out just a small bit off the sides for the feet area so they fit perfectly and create the 2.00 x 1.30 bed for two :) We are going to do it again this summer, on a round trip through parts of Sweden and Norway :-)
Bjørn forgot to bring the IKEA cube for sleepover (comfort)...^_^, I like your new , shorter video format. And it’s looks like it helping you attract new subscribers to your channel, which you deserve of course. Thanks for your great work!
First of all, many thanks Bjørn for your cool and instructive videos. I will certainly order an IONIQ in a few weeks, in spite of its small battery pack. Cos there's not much competition in this family category, and the Ioniq is doing very well, even compared to more recent opponents. That sleeping test is cool. When it comes to inner space, all testers seem fine with "enough head room, enough leg room, fair trunk". On the other hand, when I could first test an Ioniq, lower the back seats and lay there was the first thing I did after sitting. And my 181cm (5'11") were feeling fine. So many thanks again, keep cool, and greetings from France
Hello from Danmark, love yor videos. Ordered my Ioniq EV, seven monts ago, delivery 10-12 weeks. It vas yor nimber task, in the Ioniq, wich konvinst me to order it :-). Kontinue the good work Bjørn.
Hyundai has a lot of mechanical buttons and I love it. All those teslas with all the controls on a screen is simply stupid to have on a car. For one thing you have to look at the screen and not the road and also you're in a moving object that shakes and you simply miss the button on the screen. Touch sensitive screens in cars - absolute garbage.
Awesome Bjorn you're the best. Really like your videos and your sense of humour. I am considering a 2020 or 2021 Ioniq phev and knowing I can sleep in it on a potential cross country trip is fantastic!
Need a great sleeping bag. We need to know for a road trip because we need these to go see loved ones who live far far away and with Gas ⛽️ going up and higher Hotel prices thank You for your demonstration.
+Bjørn Nyland Many EVs (other than Tesla) has an automatic turn off system if idle (in park mode) for 2 hours or so (I've tested with the old Ampera and it turns itself off after 2 hours). Are you sure that Ioniq doesn't do the same? Can you test it?
You did that backwards. Sleep feet over the edge, us tall people do that on normal beds all the time. Other option in to sleep in the front not the back. Recline the passenger seat all the way down, take the head rest off and then put your mattress on the seat, use a blanket to even it out. Then your pillow goes on the back seat. Vent in back next to your upper body, foot vent for your feet. Side sleeping lets you use more of the back seat.
My Ioniq only warms up in power on -mode, not in "ignition mode". It's a problem because you can't charge and have the power mode on at the same time. The blower blows, but heatpump is not on. So in order to heat up the car you either need to schedule the heating (for only 30 mins) or remove the charger plug.
Hello all, I know this is a old video. But I'm wondering if someone could share some real experience sleeping in this car(while it's not not charging). I'm staying in my car for a couple of days now but I have experiencing beeping sound from the car while running the A/C when parked. I tried buckling up all the seats also tried putting weight in the drivers seat, non seems to work... I'm a bit sad because this car would otherwise be perfect for camping. Also the energy consumption is great while not being charged. In theorie the IONIQ 28kwh could easily be running all night with only losing 20% if it wasn't for the beeping keeping me awake.
Your comment is a year old, I want to answer you anyway. I've got the 38 kWh Ioniq Facelift. I was sleeping 14 days on my Germany-Nordkap Trip in the car. It was perfect and the facelift doesn't beeping at me. It was quite the whole night. My luggage was on the driver and co. Driver seat. The car was started in ON Mode and the parking button was Set. It's important that you start your car, breaking Pedal and push the start Button, in the way you would normally Drive. Otherwise the AC will drain your 12 Volt battery and the car ist beeping and warning ⚠️ you.
Thanks for this video. I plan to buy an Ioniq plug In, and it's hard to find the lengh and the real dimension. I plan to sleep inside as well ( 1.68 tall), and put some furniture ( I'm a DJ) . I guess it's enough.
DreamCase will look into creating a shorter version of the planned DreamCase for Tesla Model 3 for Hyundai Ioniq. Release date for Model X and Model 3 is sometime in April. We are releasing DreamCase for about 150 types of cars between February and April. See prototype in test for Model X here : ua-cam.com/video/Ns39f1LQfUs/v-deo.html Hope to see many car campers on the road this summer holiday.
How much energy do you assume it will be consumed in a cold night? I am studying about possibilities to sleep also in the only hybrid version... ...but probably original battery is not enough and it needs a webasti system. Can you share your data about consumption? thanks
I am looking for a list of the top 5 EVs to sleep in. I am tall, 190cm and would like to be able to sleep comfortably in the vehicle with my much shorter wife, overnight.
Probably in Korea and selected european countries. In Finland only the non-plug hybrid is available, plugin and EV are "coming". Low production numbers seem to characterize the early EV models. And by low I mean: c´mon, that´s just ridiculous!
Unfortunately that leaves the majority of the U.S. with no chance to buy this car. Too bad we don’t support EVs in the U.S. Makes me want to move to Europe!

How does a heat pump provide heat when it is cold outside?
Simon Bak Theres always more heat in the air. Look at the temperature on the Kelvin scale.
themystic Every door can be locked from the inside. Im not sure about the trunk but i guess they would have to climb over you when you are sleeping then.

You could maybe turn the headrest around, and pull it out max to extend the length.
You never dissapoint, another great video bjørn 👍🏽
Small tip.. there is a dedicated storage space under the trunk for the luggage cover. Slots right in there. :-)
VolvoCars only in the electric though -_- annoying.
Bjørn forgot to bring the IKEA cube for sleepover (comfort)...^_^,
I like your new , shorter video format. And it’s looks like it helping you attract new subscribers to your channel, which you deserve of course. Thanks for your great work!
why are you not using a winter sleeping bag?
if you use one, there would be no need to turn the heater on
*I love these Car Sleeping Videos !!*
You blow it and then is long and hard, but doesn't go all way in... ahahaha :)
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Those air-mats are great. Love em. I have them for years now. Sleep great on them.
use a conforder and a couple of blankets will keep warm and its cold so it doesnt get hot can sleep good with blankets you will sleep good

Note: If your Ioniq has the Bluelink integration you don't need to turn on the car for the heating, you can just use the app

...long and hard... i know what you did there ;)
it doesn't go all the way in.....but than it did
It's small on the outside, big on the inside. (referring to this: adland.tv/content/honda-jazz-becomes-honda-expletive )
Miro M. It long ishhh shieeeet
not to mention he wants to go deep ;D
Nolan likes things that are "Long & Hard" but also "thick & large" depending how much "length" they have ...jus kiddin' :P

That's top shitposting material right there.

ikr in case ur doing something with ur wife and ur in the car...
Trunks rolling cover has place under the trunks base plate (Björn actually shows it in 3:15). Plastic has slot for it.
Do not blow the matress, the moisture will kill the PU foam.

we need more sleep in car videos awesome
300W for electronics? Does that stay constant throughout the night? It was almost half of the heater consumption

Tony Lehto my Ioniq can heat during charging... no problem
If it's turned off. Push power button twice without holding the brake, and it can actually heat without being completely on.
Another interesting video Bjørn, please keep them coming 😎
"2 people should be able to sleep here" lol diagonally in an X shape.
Nope, two people (not too thin :p) can fit next to each other on a 2.00 x 1.30 bed :) See my other reaction, 3 months in the future ;-))
Great video, thanks for the info!

Hello. Did you end up creating a version of dreamcase that would work with this first generation ioniq?
The ioniq in good for sleeping in car. Can you always open the backdoor from inside?
Jan Hiller all cars made after 2002 have a trunk release in the trunk or hatch
@@cjthomp2005 not the ioniq...
HES ADORABLE!!!
Do you think the ioniq is as good as the prius for car camping?!
If I'm in the car sleeping and lock the doors with the switch inside can anyone get in from outside? I often sleep at rest areas
+A Nonymouse no
@@bjornnyland perfect :-) I have seat setting 1 for driving and 2 is almost laid flat...lovely to pull up, plug in and lay down :-)
Mine is the phev as I Do a lot of miles
Can you fit a bike in it?
Cool Video and a the ioniq is a greate car.
What IKEA mattress exactly do you use now?
Can you fit a Jørgen and a Morgan in there ?
still not enough room to make "comfortable" love

Leaf Lover96 this is available in the US. Just in carb states. Big diff for ev market when comparing California to Alabama or something lol
I have the non pluggable hybrid model in California, the 2019 model. It should also work fine for heating at night
:)
