Lmao this is so misunderstanding the whole character. Pal, he murdered countless innocent people for nothing else but cheap personal gain. He is evil. He is just generally more smart than other Vikings to be able to recognize that he is evil and that he is doing bad things and the absurdity of the whole Valhalla bellief
@@mili3d551me makes some rlly bad decisions later in life but he has good motivations, I think thorfinn is a combination of thors and askeladd and is a more pure and good version of askeladd who leans towards the bad side despite his good intentions
Thanks for this amazing recap for the most amazing season 1 character in Vinland Saga. I simply can't wait to relive Farmland with the upcoming season 2. The trailer looked promising. As for the story in general, it's my favorite ongoing manga at the moment and I'm looking forward to seeing jusy how does the author plan to wrap it up.
That’s why he doesn’t care for the villages he destroys, their people were the ones who destroyed Britannia, and that’s why he says he’s the rightful king
No, and this video failed completely to understand Askeladd's character. This excuse is stupid completely and Askeladd is too smart and self-aware to use this as an excuse to murder people. Especially since he believes violence itself to be completely stupid. He is a man with a mind from several centuries later living in a world that is not ready for his type of thinking. He doesn't care about those villagers because he believes there's no point in changing anything - the world may soon be ending, Artorius is not coming, and, by his own words - there are too many morons who love violence like his own father and he could never kill them all. And Askeladd himself is "just a Viking" (his words again), he could never fill the role of Artorius. So what he does instead is integrating in the current world and being damn good at it - he is one of the strongest and cruelest people of his era. And he is just waiting for the end of the world or Artorius - whatever comes first - to come. It's when he starts growing old, he starts growing soft - there's a feral kid that attached himself to Askeladd following him around - and as Askeladd grows old, he wonders more and more what that kid going to do after Askeladd is gone (no way he thought of it only when he was dying lol. it is obvious he has been thinking it for quite some time and just finally voiced it when he didn't have to care about anything else - I.e. when he was already dying). And then a chance to make his own Artorius falls into his hands - and so he seizes it.
Not sure who this video is for. Unlike the Johan video, the story of Askeladd is not hard to understand or piece together. And for those that haven't watched the show, why would they watch a spoiler of the most interesting character? Also the timing of this video could have been better. Releasing it closer to the vinland season 2 start would have given it an algorithm boost. I have loved most of your videos thus far, so don't take this the wrong way.
All good, cheers for being upfront. Honestly, it's for me. I'm working on a long form video on Vinland Saga at the moment and wanted something exactly like this as a resource. But perhaps you're right and I should hold all this off till near the end of the year
Even to this day he is my favorite character from Vinland saga
Askeladd is one of the most sophisticated deep characters I've ever watched.. he sits in the gray zone between good and evil

Askeladd isn't his real name. He's Lucius Artorius Castus.

I hate to be that guy, but the people in those villages had nothing to do with their ancestors who destroyed Britannia.
@@alexvaughan1013yeah it’s obvious he’s just retaliating or just using that as a way to justify his actions
@@alexvaughan1013 you are true, askeladd didn't care though.

Does anyone know if Askeladd was based off of an actual person? I’m curious to learn about him, just like Thorkell and Thorfinn!
