The bag pressure sensor is located on the wall of the ACTIVE FLUIDICS IV Bag area. When the IV BAG is hung, the one side of the bag rests up against a metal sensor which reads the pressure exerted against the bag by the belt driven Stepping Motor assembly plate. The plate moves into the resting position when no bag is present. When the bag is insterted and the door is closed, the Bag Reader Sensor flashes a blue light and the rings on the neck of the bag are located and registered with the software. The plate then moves forward to squeeze the bag to the selected pressure on the INFUSION setting.
This view shows the ACTIVE FLUIDICS ASSEMBLY removed and the BAG PRESSURE Sensor is clearly visible on the side of the assembly.
The IV bag can be BSS or BSS+. BSS+ is a two part mixture that when added together prior to surgyery, will be used as the irrigation solution which mimics the naturally occuring Aqueous Solition that is naturally in the eye. BSS is simply Balanced Salt Solution.
The BSS+ and BSS bags have rings on the neck that are read by the Bag Sensor to determine if the are ALCON Compatible IV BAGS.
When the bags are read by the system, the pressure plate will move into position. The spacing of the rings lets the system know if it is BSS or BSS+ IV BAG.
