Which lenses are your favourites?
14mm gm; 35mm 1.8; 24-70 gm II; 70-200mm f4 macro
24mm 2.8 g, 35 1.4gm, 85mm 1.8
Since I shot a lot of events were stuff happens fast. I’m mostly using the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 f4
200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G, Laowa 24mm Probe, Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x, and Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 but would love the GM, but it has insane lens breathing control.
nikkor 70-200 f 2,8
From IG live to this latest video :)
It's so amazing to see how these pieces of glas made your YT / business possible!
You are such an inspiration and I'm doing my best to get the reps in to follow your footstep along your creator friends.
All these Sony lens are on sale now, skip paying your rent and car payment and buy now.
🤣
I did this and bought an fx30 lol
I've used my Sony 24 1.4 GM so much that it's starting to have AF/electronic connection issues lol, I'd be willing to pick up a second copy, that's how much I love it!
Hahaha! That’s how you know it’s getting burnt out 😂
man, bought the 24 few years ago out of boredom and found a stellar lens that i'm still in love with it! great for storytelling
It's such a good lens!
Hello Peter! Thank you for such a comprehensive video. Wanted to pick your brain over somwthing.
Which wide angle lens would you suggest for video work? Near 16 mm.
Building my kit still have the 24gm & 55 atm but this is the end goal setup I’ve envisioned for my needs. Solid choices 👌🏼
Probably with the 50 1.4 gm and an updated 90mm whenever that happens and why not the 2x tele for the 70-200 dream big
Yeah, those are definitely some great lens options
Definitely the old 28 - 135 mm Sony f4 💪🏼 for my FX6 and now for the small ZVE1 too😅 best cinematic greetings from germany Peter
Love the 24 & 14 for astro and storm chasing.
That 50 1.2 has become my all time favourite. Whatever you point it at, turns out brilliant. I also had the 16-35 and the 24 1.4 high up on the list. The 16 now replaced with the sony 14 1.8 gm, though. Also a beast of a lens.
My go-tos this year have been the 24-70 GM II (which was my primarily lens for years if you count its predecessor) but I’ve actually swung back around the using primes recently. 35 GM, 50 1.4 GM, and the 20mm G have all gotten more use than any of my zooms.
I regret selling my 90mm macro as well. That lens was special. An updated version would be an instant-cop for me. Also, I have been dragging my feet in the 24mm GM since the day it was announced, but it’s only a matter of time before grab one. Just such a valuable focal length for the work I do and as good as the 20mm is, it is missing something that the GM’s bring to the table.
Sony 24mm GM highly rated but my preference for 20mm G in the future. Sold my Sony 90mm which tended to hunt; better on manual focus. Sony colours are among the best. They say lenses should last about 10 years. Maybe prime lenses last longer without servicing
I also love my 24mm gm lens, but the lens I’ve used most often is Tamron 20-40mm f2.8. So much lighter than 16-35mm GM and 20mm is wide enough for me!
You should try the 16 35 pz f4. You will be surprised.
@@thearabicdp I've tried it and I loved it! Helas, I already have the Tamron 20-40mm which I love so much. Not motivated enough to switch it over.
That’s awesome! I’ve tried to get rid of the 16mm range in my kit, but I can’t 😂
Huge fan of the 24 GM but mostly for narrative work. For pro UA-cam and corporate work this year I’ve loved the 50GM & the new 70-200 F4 G lens. But a sneaky option is the SLR Magic 35mm paired with a little pro mist.
Sounds like an awesome combo!
The 50mm is just in a league of its own right?
@@PeterLindgren1 it really is!
I'm considering the 90mm macro as my next lens (the 70-200 gm II would be a dream but it is way over my budget) since I want a longer focal length and I always find myself close focusing with my 35 and would love to get alot closer. However, hearing you say that it needs a update made me want to wait for the new one (if they are going to update it). I'm used to the fast AF on the 35 and would probably be disapointed in the current 90 when tracking moving subjects.
If I could offer advice, I bought the 90 mm for the same reason and found it too slow for AF even with a newer Sony body. I’ve since got the tamron D2 28-75 that focuses very close for most things, also blazing fast AF!
I love the 90, but it does feel very old at this point 🫠
@@christianisaacjones Appreciate your advice, I will look into the Tamron 28-75.
I went with the 20mm 1.8 g lens instead of the 20mm. It's still my favorite lens for video, images, and photogrammetry.
I love the 20mm 1.8G
I own the 24mm f1.4 GM lens for two years now. I try to love it but just don’t even though 24mm is my sweet spot. Currently when I need 24mm I more often grab my Tamron 17-28. Please help me understand how you overcome the hug focus breathing that it has? Or the slow focusing compared to newer lenses? When not using an external mic it also adds some sound to my audio.
I almsot always shoot manual with it, and when i do my talking heads it's performing great!
My lenses this year were the Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the Sigma 16-28 2.8. I used the Sony 50 1.2 and it was too heavy and bulky and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the 1.4 and 1.2. The AF on the Sigma is so fantastic, a lot better than I was expecting. The price difference between the Sony gm 1.4 and Sigma meant I could buy another lens with the 400 dollar difference. I thought I was gonna buy the Sigma 14-24 but I ended up with the 16-28. The threading on the lens meant I could stick a matte box on the front threads with no issue. Which is really important when I'm shooting outside and controlling light to shoot at iso 800 for Slog 3. I used to be team Tamrom and I still own and love the 70-180 and 28-75 g2 but after this year I feel like I'm team Sigma.
I was wondering 🤔 if Sony lenses were crisper etc: so your results show Sigma is equivalent😮?
@@imboredDB I've had zero complaints with my sigma lenses so far in my video work.
Hello Peter, I am just curious, what's your take on the newly released Sony A9III's video capability?🤔
It’s awesome. But I’m waiting for a dedicated camera 🤌🏼
Oh I want that 70 200 f2.8 in my life. Ps. Don't sleep on the Sony 16 35 PZ. It's one of the first zoom lenses I love using for videos as well as photography. Also how did the drummer get a cyborg eye!
Yeah it’s a wicked good lens!
I’ve been eyeing that lens, but such a fan of the GM 2.8 👀
❤
Dear Peter!
What do you say about focus breathing at 24 mm in videos? I actually wanted to buy a 35 mm 1.4, but it has so much strong focus breathing...
16-35 mm II has hardly any focus breathing, but it is extremely expensive at the moment. Thanks in advance!
I haven’t been disturbed by it 🤷🏻
Has the 90mm macro replaced your 85 Batis? Or are you mostly using the 50mm 1.2 for your b-roll now instead?
Still use both!
My top 10 E-mount lenses (in the following order):
Sony 70-200 GM II
Tamron 35-150
Tamron 28-200
Tamron 20-40
Tamron 50-400
Tamron 17-50
Sony 35 GM
Samyang 50 1.4 II
Sony 24 GM
Sony 85 GM
The 70-200 is 🤌🏼
@@PeterLindgren1 Best 70-200 of all time. Most worthy Sony native lens to get.
I have a video planned similar to this!!! 24mm and 16-35mm GM is on the top as well!! I could do like 99% of what I do with those 2 lenses lol 😂 That GM 1 is what I tell people to get now. If you are patient you can find them used for $1,000-$1,200. Spend a few hundred more than the Tamron and get a beast!! Great video dude!
Awesome, can’t wait to see it!
Yeah those lenses are 🔥
Did you swap the zeiss for the 90mm?
Nope! Still have the zeiss
Would like to know what made you to move to 24 mm from 20 mm?
Felt that it looked more natural with the 24mm for the talking heads! Also like the 1.4 🤌🏼
Have you tried the tamron 35-150 f2/2.8 ? Just looking for opinions whether that’s a good purchase!?
Yup, not my cup of tea!
@@PeterLindgren1any reason in specific?, I got the 24 mm because of your recommendation and I love it. Just wondering for the tamron!
@@AlfaMedtech Heavy and not as accurate as the 70-200!
@@PeterLindgren1I think the 70-200 gm2 it’s 2.3 lb and the tamron 2.5 but getting an F2 and starting at 35 instead of 70. But you saying it’s not accurate in focus speed? Or colors?
I am in the same boat, looking to purchase or not.
My only wish for Sony lenses moving forward is for Sony to Color match all the lenses with 1.4 aperture and also try to make them optically free from focus breathing and make it the same size (much like what Lumix is doing with their 1.8 lenses)
Yeah I wish it will happen very soon (lumix prime 1.8 lenses.) this step could give an advantage against Canon
I sold my last prime just a few months ago the Sigma 35 f/1.2 to buy the FE 16-35 GM II and haven't looked back since! The Sigma was razor sharp stationary but it couldn't catch a quick focus to save it's life so the hit rate was terrible. Now, I'm shooting exclusively on zooms with the FE 2.8 16-35 GM II, Sigma 24-70 f/2.8, FE 2.8 70-200 GM OSS II, and the FE 5.6-6.3 200-600 G OSS. So my effective range is 16mm - 600mm FF (900mm on APS-C). That covers 100% of my photo and video needs shooting on the Alpha 1 and a7SIII. Next up will be a macro for product photo/video but I'm kind of holding out in hopes of an updated 90mm macro from Sony. Until then, the 70-200 GM OSS II is more than capable of supplementing macro product shots! One of the main reasons I got away from primes for now is less lenses to keep track of on a shoot and more options within the focal ranges. These newer lenses are freaking razor sharp and have minimal cons over shooting on a prime. In addition, I would rarely find myself shooting wider than f/2.8 especially with the iso range covered between my two cameras.
What about ultra wide for social? 12-24mm ?
I honestly don't prioritize Vertical content anymore. 16-35 is more than enough for me!
@@PeterLindgren1 That’s the dream🙌🏻
I film on Nokia 3310 lens. It's great!
Gran optica pero el precio es alto, aunque lo vale.
How about 16mm?
Got it covered with the 16-35
@@PeterLindgren1 Thanks Peter!
I have the 24 1.4 and rarely use it. My most versatile lens is the 24-105 f4
The 24-105 is such a good lens
I'm Still thinking about that since 1 year, its too match complicated, there is a lot of verity special when there other brands in very good quality.
For the outside viewer who doesn't know anything about photography/videography I'm pretty sure that Tampon or GM will look exactly the same. AF maybe, that's a big maybe, but IQ absolutely indistinguishable. The Tampon probably does 95%, at least, what the GM does.
Upvote for tampon lenses
Lol classic autocorrect@@dhomiasdexter5244
not every one will have that much money to afford G master lens tho.
Never said that either 🤷🏻
did you throw an expensive lens and caught it without looking?
omg.. got money to burn? hehe
Dispite it being a tank, its the 50 1.2
Fortunately, Peter is a tank as well. 😊 Great video.
