I love that they didn’t make the enemy pilots chumps. They’re just either inexperienced or just relying on their very advanced planes. Mav still had to work his ass off
The first 16 seconds are a cinematic Masterpiece. The words "Don't think. Just do." From the son of the friend he felt he (Maverick) let die. The heavy breathing before the grunt of pulling the stick hard to one side. The almost sluggish but powerful turn of the F-14, followed by the sound of the 20mm. Sheering the tails off the enemy. Fantastic movie.
Then they get to the valley scenes and turned the speed down on the cgi plane models to comically slow pace so the audience could see them in more detail. Without those couple shots of each aircraft looking like it's cruising along at at brisk 60-70 mph along with the wildly inaccurate physics of those scenes, this moment would have been great. It's like these studios don't know where they should stop and always take it just a step too far with the cgi implementation. They did an amazing job through 95% of the movie with the effects.
I wish they at least made the Gatling cannon real. Listening to the real sound, which makes you unable to hear the individual bullets, would make it a lot more scarier and action filled

@@MatthewFritsche Yeah, it's a shame that yours didn't get more attention. Considering you went out of the way to make sure the dialog was still audible. Interesting how the pilot, despite us being unable to see his face or hear him, gave a visible gesture saying "Aw, damn it" when he realized the terrain was confusing his fire control radar.

I mean, it fits with the character they built. He stayed a pilot after all those years. He was already great at flying as a young man. As an older man, he just added decades of experience to an already naturally gifted pilot.
Who knew the band would know to write a song for this movie 50 years ago. The end is the best when you the plane is flying away and you can hear the music from inside the cockpit
fun fact: the F-14 Tomcat Maverick uses isnt actually his. he stole it from a hangar in the enemys base. (bandits) the plane was old so they had to guide the missile to the other enemy behind. they succesfully landed on the carrier, and maverick was the best pilot in topgun. fun fact: a f-14 does actually outclass a su-57 in top speed the su-57 is actually a extremely unstable jet combine that with thrust vectoring and you get something that is very cool to watch at an airshow but completely unusable in an actual dogfight an f-14 would kick the su-57's ass irl because the f-14 is that rare kind of jet that does everything that the pilot tells it to do to the point of tearing itself apart do to it not having any limiters
limiters aren't there because manufacturers hate the pilots flying the planes.. and plus, the SU-57 is a lot more stealthy than the F-14, and would thus be able to blast the F-14 with missiles before the F-14 could pick it up on radar. Dogfights only happen when things go very, *very* wrong.
