Boston Common (the GOAT, imo) were a crowd favourite for many years. They were not ones for doing much "choreography" and so the judges didn't reward them on the relevant categories. So, the joke is that BC were the best quartet in "1974 and '75 and '77 and '78 and '79 and finally (when they won gold) in '80." "What were you thinking?!" is directed at the judges' pit to say "why didn't you give them the gold for so longggg??"
I love FRED! Their title run was so good!
Saw this post and immediately smiled! Got to love FRED!

also worth noting that the reason '76 isn't listed there is because boston common didn't compete that year
@@benjaminvarner1481 They actually did compete that year in the quarters and semis but voluntarily sat out of the finals!
They were also fairly outspoken about judges also coaching the quartets they were grading, which may also have contributed.
God darn i thought that shout was aimed at the BQ quartet directly! Wow so they really are too good for this place, huh?
Regents, Happiness Emphorium(sp), Innsiders?
If it wasn't for the screw up on All By Myself, they would've edged Revival that year. Then Revival would've won the next.
Was that enough to knock them from first to 4th?
We're the Boston Common Judging or sitting front row in this competition?
I believe Fred was simply pointing to the judges as a general group and asking them why Boston Common hadn't won sooner :)
:42, smacked
