Florida has been ahead of the game and making sure people are not allowed to be camping and setting up tents in public unlike so many other states across the country as well as protecting homeowners rights from unlawful squatters. Say what you will about this, but I think most people across the country are secretly wishing their state would do the same to make sure it doesn't turn into an absolute dump.

So they inflate the prices of homes and then raise interest rates, insurance, taxes and the cost of living to where people cant afford a home, then they make it illegal to be homeless! That's AmeriKa.
Additionally, with the squatters laws in place, where people can break in to your home and get to live there for months or years FOR FREE - with nothing a property owner can do about it - such a law encourages homeless people to violate other people and their property in order to not go to jail!
To think that I used to support Governor Desantis!!! I must have been out of my mind!!!
I may never go to Florida again!!!
LOVE IT.....wish they did this is CA....But that will never happen.
Michael, me and my kids were homeless.
You can believe that we did not want to be.
Not all homeless people want to stay in a tent on the street. I have never been on drugs in my life.
I do understand that some folks on drugs don't want anybody controlling what they do so they stay on the street or in a park.
Me and my kids never slept in a public place.
Also, chump is not an option to be included as a human being. President Biden is the healthier choice since he's never going to try to be any type of dictator. The govt. has been being controlled for years by the groups who have all the money. The president is a stand in representative. He is the representative for the administration. I'm sorry Michael, but I prefer a sane person than a con man crook misogynist male chauvinist as the president.
@@edge918 unfortunately there will be more people like you guys. And there are programs for people who are not on drugs. But there are also too many who want the freedom of doing drugs where ever they want and not to go to work who take advantage of the ability to sleep on the streets and not work. So making these laws will stop this sort of nonsense. I have videos on how to get back on your feet and also videos on all the drug use. Very hard today because of all the overstepping of government to do the normal thing like pay rent, have a normal job and live normally today for single parents.
@Daniel12.4Ministry I'm confused, DeSantis is the only Govern so far sign a bill on squatters. Yesterday that police can remove if they can't show or prove its their property 🎉

I am glad DeSantis did this. There is Also a bill for squatters getting removed immediately and being a felony that DeSantis needs to sign.
This would be a very good thing for Florida.
Good. Send them elsewhere.
Felony lol yea more crimes for the poor.
Have fun when no one can afford food anymore, shelters and food pantries are dry, and they start breaking in your homes just because they're hungry.
You gotta fireworks right? Keep buying wicks, cuz ull need it constantly
Correct, DeSantis needs to sign Senate Bill 888 for the immediate removal of squatters, especially in Florida with millions of unoccupied homes owned by snowbirds, this bill needs to be signed immediately!
Good! I was hoping this would be put into law.
School boards had parents arrested for trespassing after they cut them off when they were objecting to curriculum, and told them to leave. When the parents didn’t leave it became trespassing, and the board called the police on them. But a person breaking into your property and living there is OK and you can’t get rid of them. Hmmm ….

As a psychologist, I'm glad they will offer mental health care to the homeless. That is getting to the root of the problem. Trauma leads to drug use and homelessness. They need to be taught healthy coping mechanisms and treated with psychotropic medication for certain mental health disorders. This is the reality of the world we live in where drugs are rampant. No one want to live near the homeless, but they ate not throw away people. They are still human beings that have families.

You ironically stated the answer in your last sentence: "families". They should live with their families. But their families don't want them because 99% of homeless people are just non-functioning addicts.
I live in phx az and homelessness is one of the worst problems that has skyrocketed since covid. If you visit this city I guarantee that you will see homeless people in herds. I work in a field where we regularly deal with homeless people and all i can tell you is that most of these people WANT to live that lifestyle. To me it’s a sign of our country’s significantly decline.
You live in phx az - I live in chi il.
Too many rules and foreigners to compete against.
I’ve visited quite a few local encampments in my area and I can say that “MANY” do not want to live that way. Many are soldiers who came back from various wars and couldn’t get assistance in time/are disabled - physically/mentally. They often can’t get assistance once they’re homeless as the state “can’t work with people who don’t have addresses”.
This bill is to appease conservative, empathy-less, so-called “christians” who faint every time they see someone in a lower economical class.
@@TitaniumTurbinejobs aren’t mailing you stuff. Put any address that makes sense. Your mom’s, sister’s, an ex’s address- any address where the person won’t create an issue. I don’t care if they throw the mail away. You have your pay sent to you as direct deposit and call it a day

2014 Florida study conclude that each person while homeless cost $31,065 per year in inpatient hospitalizations, emergency room fees, incarceration and other systems associated with homelessness. By comparison, the report finds that supportive housing for chronically homeless individuals in Central Florida costs just $10,051 per person per year -- a 68% reduction in community costs.
That study literally means nothing, as only *compliant*, sober individuals would be applicable for the housing assistance. The 99% majority is still a massive net drain.
@@elsie6828: 99% of homeless people are not druggies or hopeless alcoholics and homelessness is not a monolithic state.
@eattherich9215 If you were to snap your fingers and magically "disappear" any homeless person with drugs in their system, you'd snap-away at least 90% of people off the streets. Bet.
This at the end will cause more to tax payers. There isn’t enough jails to put all homeless and if they build more jails it’s more money for tax payers. The solution would be to invest in a homeless camp outside the city and provide them help if they wanna come back to society. There’s going to be more homeless people that aren’t in drugs due to high cost of rent and inflation. The system is falling apart no matter how we look at it.
Common sense I question that?
I think that’s what they’re gonna do with most homeless they’re going to have a designated area where if you need help, you can go there if there’s no shelter beds available. But you can’t refuse otherwise you’ll be arrested
@@MichaelBordenaro So these places where they need help and shelters when there is none.. then what Michael... you really are revealing yourself buddy... I really hope you don't find yourself in this position one day, trust me, it can happen to you at any moment.... but you seem to be cock sure it wont?
A lot of problems for sure. Homeless camps will have the same issue of costing taxpayers. Also, "investing" is only considered investing if it produces a return on investment. A homeless camp or expanded jail won't result in any positive ROI, unless they are training them for manual labor jobs. Not sure what the solution is, really.
@@rfxtuber , Really none? I deal with homeless people before and never will.

Just asking? What about the people who live in their cars or vans that are homeless because they cannot afford to rent a place?
I worked for the Red Cross helping people who had been dispaced because of fires, natural disasters, or other major life events find temporary housing. Disagree on the five year analogy. It should not matter how long it takes for someone (usually a family member) to claim a property. I know of no reason for any squatters rights. If someone has a reason, let me know. Sometimes it takes a long time to find next of kin to claim a property. In a nutshell, if someone breaks into a home to occupy it, they are a criminal. These people need to go to jail.
I hear you it was just the middle of the road thought

Well spotted haha.
What a bunch of B.S. - If only it was that easy. I applaud the governor for signing some law into effect - now comes the hard part that no one wants to deal with LONG-TERM:
What does a state do with 100K+ (31K is way too low a number) people throughout the state who are over 30 years old, unemployable, addicted, and refuse to be housed in homeless facilities (with strict rules and curfews)?
-- The state of Florida does not have the prison space to house long-term those who do not comply with this new homeless law and taxpayers should expect their taxes to increase as these people will essentially become official long-term wards of the state
-- The prevalence of plea deals is an acknowledgement that prison space and staffing is limited and is prioritized for violent criminals (not homelessness or non-violent activity)
-- The state of Florida does not have the addiction treatment staff or facilities/space to house long-term those who comply and are on long-term treatment plans
It will take an army of new government employees to manage these people long-term and possibly a decade to shift funds currently targeted towards the homeless to these go-forward resources. Much of what is being teased by the governor is already being tested in other states on a smaller scale (watch YT video: 'Seattle is Dying | A KOMO News Documentary') to understand the billions it will cost and time to see effective outcomes. Running the homeless out of FL to a-joining states is not a solution but a fail.
no one should be harrassed but trust...one of those homeless people was a former attorney. sleeping in public is not a crime.
They passed a city ordinance in one of the larger cities near me that I frequent once a week for shopping. The ordinance was to stop people from sleeping on the streets in the town, mainly main street where most of the older businesses are located. The homeless had erected a permanent camp on main street across from the library. The ordinance specifies that sleeping on the streets will incur a $10 fine. I thought to myself, how will they pay this ten dollar fine if they are broke and homeless. Well, the first week that this went into effect, I went downtown and did not see a single homeless person on main street. Well, they had moved to other parts of the town. I saw them everywhere but on main street. I thought, they really need to setup up a homeless camp to help these people get off the streets and help them get out of their downfall. I am not advocating for more homelessness, but there must be some kind of solution besides kicking somebody in the teeth when they have nothing to hold onto.
Pilgrims sqautted, now its coming back full circle and I'm here for it.

How can you live in such a cold, sterile environment like those condo high rises and suggest it's better than Belvidere? I'm familiar with both and the concrete jungle makes me nauseous and can't relate to how anyone can suggest it's anything close to being a "neighborhood".
Gainesville, Florida already tried a county-run homeless camp, and the homeless used it in the day and slept outside the perimeter, in the woods at night because in order to sleep inside the facility they 1: had a curfew and 2: couldnt use drugs inside the fence.
I think its being shut down now. But yeah, the homeless choose to sleep on the streets vs shelters so they can still use.

Many addicts don’t want to sleep in a shelter because they won’t let them do drugs. Don’t care. Arrest them then. If I go to the beach or the park or am trying to ride light rail I don’t want a bunch of homeless people hanging around.
Also happened in Stone Mountain, GA. 77 year old man got put in jail for not leaving his house he had for 20 years. Swatter made a fake deed and homeowner got in trouble and arrested.
Plenty of people smoke weed and drink and you don’t have to be homeless to do it. In fact I encourage it to help in deal with not being able to afford a home in Florida. Might as well enjoy yourself while we all wait right?
tons of homeless in south beach. i used to run a store there on lincoln road. constant problems of harassment and public defecation. hopefully they've been removed.
Agree with much of what you say.
Not every homeless person is a druggy and a trouble maker. That's like me calling all rich people A holes. Some people are unfortunate enough to be homeless in this economy and struggle to get back on their feet. Kicking them while they're down and trying to drive them out of your cities doesn't work either. Criminalizing homelessness is nonsense.
More jails will have to be constructed for the transients.
I am proud to say Good For You in Florida , In many states they do not have a CLUE
I was with you, until you said squatters should be allowed to move into an abandoned house if they lived there for 5 years. No!!! I've been saving for years to build my retirement home on some land I have. There's a home on it.
Bus them to NY or CA
It happens in Ca and NV too. ☹️
CORRECTION! There is NO LIMIT on how much mortgage interest you can deduct off your taxes. The problem comes when you don't have enough deductions to itemize.
Great news
Wow this is good! I can sleep on the streets and get Florida to pay for a place for me to stay.
I completely agree with this law. First protect the citizens who are paying their taxes and have the right to live a decent life, and then “assist the one who needs it”. The mini house communities is a solution, help them find a job, and put them back on low income housing. Is a process, but people must start helping themselves.
Who wants to see Biden gone and never seen again?
Me!
Yes please. 🇺🇸
Just for clarification. You can deduct interest up to a loan value if 750K loan. There is no cap on thr interest amount on loans up to 750K. Sonat 3% that would be 22K deduction.
The 10K cap you spoke of is for property taxes that changed w Trump taxes. It used to be unlimited
I have a friend in Florida who is homeless. I hope they are doing okay. They are not a yahoo or a troublemaker and should not be painted with that brush.
