Thank you for reviewing this one! I liked the first one but was hesitating on whether I should go see the second. Now I know I definitely wanna go see it!
The music by Cristobal Tapia de Veer is fantastic. People love the music by Naomi Scott more (the acting was amazing), but for me the work of Cristobal is still the best part and it gave the whole movie a very dark feel that complemented the scenes flawlessly. *CHILLS*
A good story doesn't need a "reveal" to make it exceptional just as a good story is essentially spoil-proof. The greatest works can be read and watched endlessly because a well-written story contains something special on every viewing. This is why Naomi Scott's performance along with the tight writing turns this into an instant classic.
IDW got the rights from Paramount for developing a comic book series base on "Smile" (AND other horror properties like "Event Horizon" or "Twilight Zone").
I went to see smile 2 last weekend and its hands down my favourite horror of the year! I honestly felt like i sat through a 2 hour panic attack, i didnt relax until we got outside 😂 ill definitely be watching it again
I’m excited to see this. Unrelated, but AHS season 13 is potentially bringing back Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Cody Fern and Addison Rae is in talks to being in AHS13. I love ur AHS reviews.
i mustt admit the build-up in the frightening moments was so strong i wanted the jump scare to happen so i could breathe, and that ending my lord thousands of people potentially cursed?
My guess for CGI blood other than probably being cheap and not having cleanup is so they can add more/take it away if the people in charge say it’s “too gory” so they don’t have to cut out scenes.
Absolutely loved it! I think it may be my fav Horror Movie of the Year just beating Longlegs. Only small complaints are a few too many jump scares (I was exhausted by the end) and no more explanation of the lore of the entity. Also the ending - was that its plan all along or just a coincidence? Naomi Scott was simply incredible.
I loved the first movie, but since its release, I have been affected by a sibling suicide. Because his method was not in this film, and because I’m aware that ultimately these aren’t actual suicides, I was actually able to watch this movie. I really enjoyed Naomi’s acting.
9:30 The reason for CGI blood in movies is simply because it lessens the hassle of having to spend time resetting after each take. If you use big fake blood squirts on set but the take wasn’t good or wasn’t what they were hoping for, you’d have to wait a long time for them to reset the blood rig and clean up the actor and get them into fresh wardrobe and clean the set. So it basically boils down to the idea that time is money and any time that can be saved on set is a good thing.
I just saw this last night in 4dx and I'm so glad u did a review and loved it. I honestly agree with you about the jump scares and how this one is better than original except for the end scene
Emoji had me scared you hated it 😩😩 i LOVED this movie so much! It was my most anticipated film of 24’ & it paid off! The ending was predictable but it was executed perfectly! The possessed dancers attacking skye was my favorite scene!
I definitely can agree that the horror this year has been amazing! We’re gonna look back at this year and it gonna be like how today we look at the 1980s movies.
I literally felt mentally and physically exhausted after this movie😭😭😭 it was so good. And yes while I expected the ending from the trailer alone I was SO curious how they were gonna do it and I’m glad they at least sorta committed. While I would’ve liked a lil more I think showing the audience freaking out had a lasting effect
i loved it. I actually think i prefer this ending than the first one but yeah, this one is definitely better in my opinion, in maaany ways. I think the concept was awesome and Naomi’s performance was SO good, horror is often overlooked by award shows but i really hope at least one recognizes her acting in this one. I hope she continues doing horror bc WTF. My bf and i were completely alone in the theatre and it really made the experience so much better, the jumpscares were great and really unique. That closet and freezer scene were sooo unnerving and I LOVE IT
Hi Sarah. I am glad you liked the movie. I loved the movie. The Substance is my top film of the year. But this might be the second best. Oddity is definitely on my top 5. So many good horror movies in 2024 so exciting🎉. I can’t wait for the rest of the year horror releases.
This review helped me out a lot, I'm planning on seeing Smile 2 this weekend but I haven't seen the first one. I was wondering if it would matter, also this being spoiler free is just awesome!
This movie was AMAZING. Saw it last night and absolutely loved it. I enjoyed the first one, but this one was even better - agree with Sarah on that. There was one scene in it that was *so* chilling and *so* well done I almost giggled with delight (but would have sounded a bit crazed because it was genuinely scary). If you haven't seen it, but you liked the first one, and you like movies such as Sinister and Longlegs, you will also really enjoy this one. Also, I took my partner who does not like horror movies. He didn't like this one, but he felt like it was *too* well done. (In other words it actually scared him). So... in a way, that was still a compliment.
LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!! SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST!!!! This was fun, actually scary, jumped and screamed once, which I never do!!! 😂 One of the best of the year, after The Substance and Oddity! ❤❤❤ Great review! Have a great Halloween! 🎃
CGI blood is favored for blood specifically because using a practical blood effect requires a complete cleaning & reset of the set for every single reshoot.
i underestimated the original smile passing it off as cheap popcorn flick, just for it to turn out to be one of our finest horror films and one that actually scared me. i repeated the same mistake with smile 2 thinking the trailer didn’t look good and neither did naomi’s acting. well i had to eat my words completely. naomi was amazing and smile 2 is the scariest movie of the year. i don’t easily scare obviously but this movie made me jump at least 7 times and made me tear up on a scene that wasn’t even ‘scary’. if i thought the original smile was scary then smile 2 makes it look like child’s play. a far superior sequel and i’m very happy to say it’s one of the best movies this year and my favourite horror movie this year!
this was a fantastic surprise. i was ok with most of the first movie but didn't like the end of it and didn't care about seeing another one because of it. but i was on a trip recently and watched it and it turns out to be one of my favorite horror movies in a long time. solid all the way through.
9:20 better continuity(debatable), No need to clean up for a short scene, Can be easily added or removed during post production, maybe lack of communication between crews? Who knows. I didn't mind during smile 2
Loved the 2nd one I actually hope they don't make a 3rd one, just because while the ending of the 2nd was great and the implications horrifying, I can't really see how the story could continue without turning into a Bird Box or the Happening. With the ending we got,the only way it could go is mass infection and I don't believe the curse would remain as entertaining on such a big scale. We have countless mass extinction movies from viruses and zombies, horror to action, this would just blend in Not to mention the fact that a big part of why concept worked so well was the feeling of isolation and slowly making the host lose their mind - not sure how you could pull this off in that scenario
i feel like i watched other movie, again as a said before, Naomi scott was just amazing in this movie and the jumpscares were great, it had more gore also, but thats it. We dont have a story flashed out, we dont know what Skyler liked, how her mother became like that, she's just in the back seat the whole movie, everything happens to her. In the first one Rose goes after to try to understand whats happening and what she can do, Naomi in the movie just goes event to event and suffers, any person watching this would have someone 100% of the time with her to see if shes using again or something. My main problem with the movie wasthis thing of "everything its imagination" its that it goes beyond, we have the friend who has never there the whole movie (even so the friend says hi to the mom, with why would the demon do this and just like the therapist in the first one) so the best scene thats her talking with her mother in the end before killing her, we find out that was just a lie, nothing of that happen because the mother its fine in the audience in the show, so shes being in the hospital, talking with mom, killing her, escaping with the friend, fighting with the demon in the car, arriving and trying to make the plan to die, NOTHING was real. We just erase all that and boom, shes in the show. What? So we have to wonder, what was the last real scene that we watched? the dancers scene? that it looked like a flash mob. So what happens after that, shes just change and goes to the show? the movie wanst supose to leave with more questions, and also my whole teather was laughing everytime the water bottle shows up kkkkkkkk Its a good movie, but not best than the first one. IMO
I wanted to throw this out there a bit late, I loved this movie. But there is a full EP from this movie with all the songs and you should listen to them closely on their own. Brilliant easter eggs for those who really dig deep. Really sent this movie from A to A+ for me.
I did like Smile, but man the 2nd one was so much more intense and felt so real to me. I had HELLA anxiety, I felt like *I* was the one losing my mind. They did an excellent job fully immersing the audience into Skye’s headspace and making you feel the anxiety she was feeling. And omg Naomi Scott was incredible, this was the first movie I’d seen her in and she absolutely crushed it.
I'm assuming that they use CGI blood to make resets between takes go quicker, thus cheaper budgets. Every time you do a practical blood effect, it's a whole deal with changing costumes, cleaning up the set, and redoing make-up and blood packs. And time is money on movie and TV sets.
To your point about CGI blood I think a lot of it has to do with how that fake blood will ruin things. Like the blood itself is cheaper, but I watched a video recently that discussed the shining and it was a CGI versus practical thing and it was way cheaper to do CGI. They ended up going with practical, but if they don’t get it exactly right and in one take, they have to buy or produce the same clothing furniture the sets everything you have to do multiple takes if you don’t get it right on the first time and so typically production goes with CGI if it’s risky to not getting it exactly perfect on the first take.
I’m really interested to see how to connect the ending of Smile 2 to Smile 3. I think my enjoyment of Smile 3 will hinge on how faithful they are to their own lore.
The opportunity to take Smile 3 to epic level exists with how the ending to part 2 went down. It could be like a zombie movie. Definitely apocalyptic type possibilities.

Can we also talk about the fact that we just had Terrifier 3 overperform at the box office and now we have Smile 2 which is #1 this week that's 2 back to back horror movies at #1 horror is killing it this year on all fronts
My expectations were low going in, but I'm glad I still went and gave it a chance because I ended up loving it! Definitely liked it more than the 1st one
Thank you for reviewing this one! I liked the first one but was hesitating on whether I should go see the second. Now I know I definitely wanna go see it!
Seeing naomi go from lemonade mouth to smile was amazing her talent has grown alot and I loved her in this movie. I hope they cast her in more horror
She nailed it in Aladdin too!..
was waiting for this, one of my favourite horror channels❤
Yay thank you!
I'd love to see you rank horror films from this year in a tournament style to see which comes out on top
I was waiting for your review! So happy to see we agree on this film. I truly enjoyed it and Naomi’s acting was top notch!
i mustt admit the build-up in the frightening moments was so strong i wanted the jump scare to happen so i could breathe, and that ending my lord thousands of people potentially cursed?
My guess for CGI blood other than probably being cheap and not having cleanup is so they can add more/take it away if the people in charge say it’s “too gory” so they don’t have to cut out scenes.
So excited to buy this and watch when it’s available on streaming. The cast is amazing and I know I’m going to adore Naomi’s performance.
Your reactions to this movie almost exactly matched mine and my husband’s. ❤ I feel validated
Absolutely loved it! I think it may be my fav Horror Movie of the Year just beating Longlegs. Only small complaints are a few too many jump scares (I was exhausted by the end) and no more explanation of the lore of the entity. Also the ending - was that its plan all along or just a coincidence? Naomi Scott was simply incredible.
just want to say your hair looks amazing!!!
I loved the first movie, but since its release, I have been affected by a sibling suicide.
Because his method was not in this film, and because I’m aware that ultimately these aren’t actual suicides, I was actually able to watch this movie. I really enjoyed Naomi’s acting.
Great job on the thumbnail! You indeed look possessed by the horror of Smile
In the final scene I immediately noticed how the led signs said "too much fir one heart" and to me that’s genious ✨️
Good review and cool video Sarah!👍
Agree! I absolutely saw the ending coming immediately as I knew she was a singer/going on tour
I just saw this last night in 4dx and I'm so glad u did a review and loved it. I honestly agree with you about the jump scares and how this one is better than original except for the end scene
Love your videos !!! I watch your videos before watching any movie!!
We’re gonna look back at this year and it gonna be like how today we look at the 1980s movies.
can we get a tier list of ranking supernatural horror movies/tier list as its my fav genre like you! want this since so long
"Smile 2" is AMAZING
I can’t wait for the rest of the year horror releases.
yes, please do a tier list of all the movies you watched this year !!
I saw smile 2 without seeing the first one and I'm so glad that I did because the reveal was amazing to experience
GURL I JUMPED AND SCREAMED LIKE 5 TIMES!
I had low expectations for this, but LOVED the movie
4:47 Smil3 has already been announced.
this was a fantastic surprise. i was ok with most of the first movie but didn't like the end of it and didn't care about seeing another one because of it. but i was on a trip recently and watched it and it turns out to be one of my favorite horror movies in a long time. solid all the way through.
Naomi Scott need an Oscar for this role..her acting was that phenomenal 🗿🔥
🤣😂😅🤣😂
The actress really made the movie 5 stars!! Amazing performance 🎉
9:20 better continuity(debatable), No need to clean up for a short scene, Can be easily added or removed during post production, maybe lack of communication between crews?
Who knows. I didn't mind during smile 2
Loved the 2nd one
I actually hope they don't make a 3rd one, just because while the ending of the 2nd was great and the implications horrifying, I can't really see how the story could continue without turning into a Bird Box or the Happening.
With the ending we got,the only way it could go is mass infection and I don't believe the curse would remain as entertaining on such a big scale.
We have countless mass extinction movies from viruses and zombies, horror to action, this would just blend in
Not to mention the fact that a big part of why concept worked so well was the feeling of isolation and slowly making the host lose their mind - not sure how you could pull this off in that scenario
Saw this last night, I LOVED IT SO MUCH!! 10/10.
i feel like i watched other movie, again as a said before, Naomi scott was just amazing in this movie and the jumpscares were great, it had more gore also, but thats it.
Watched Smile 2 yesterday and I agree that I did enjoy this one more than the first. The Skye Riley EP made for this movie was pretty neat too.
I also saw so many reviews saying it was “recycling” stuff from the first one and I was so confused. I didn’t find that was the case at all. 😵💫
You can't delete fake blood on post production. CGI blood can be deleted.
You can, but it IS easier/cheaper to add blood in post than subtract blood in post.
I would love a tier list of all the movies you have watched this year!!
I’m really interested to see how to connect the ending of Smile 2 to Smile 3. I think my enjoyment of Smile 3 will hinge on how faithful they are to their own lore.
9:00 The monster in the end was actually done practically. It was a poppet that mas moved by someone on set . So at least that wasn’t cgi
loved your review. thanksss
I really loved this movie, thought they improved on most aspects of the first movie. Naomi Scott was great!
The opportunity to take Smile 3 to epic level exists with how the ending to part 2 went down. It could be like a zombie movie. Definitely apocalyptic type possibilities.
