It ends up feeling a little predictable in ways Heavener doesn't. The Death We Seek met high expectations. Heavener exceeded high expectations.
I have listened to the album 3 times in a row now. It is heavier than the previous one, but I enjoy it. The balance between melody and death is still great. Second favorite album of the year so far. Maybe it will change with more listens. (Heavener by Invent Animate is strong.)

Hi, i know you are a fan of Currents. maybe you cound to a reaction ot OG Currents Life // Lost album/EP. heavier with previus vocalist, but i really know you will enjoy the craftsmenship!
I've been listening to this album nonstop basically since midnight last night. Got little sleep and then turned it on as soon as I woke up lol. I've been waiting for this album for two years! This album is a masterpiece, just the mix is a little off! DEFF needs a better mix. That being said I love this album, but as of right now I believe The Way it Ends might be a better album, but that album is almost impossible to beat. This album is fire and I love what Chris and Brian have pulled off and did some wild ideas! Just wish the mix was better, the drums and bass needs to be mixed way better. Of course vocals also at times. Brian did INCREDIBLE with vocals, again it's the mix . Love Currents and Im amazed how perfect the band is too me. Lyrics hit home so much. Band makes the soundtrack too my life
Easy 12/10 album for me. Heavener has been overtaken. Currents are a different breed! I think my favourite song is Living In Tragedy but there are so many other good songs it's genuinely hard to choose just 1
Different genre to breaking benjamin completely. This band towers over breaking benjamin in every way, which isnt hard lol best song is 100% living in tragedy for me.
I feel like this album represents a certain archetype of metal fan. The vocals are just enjoyable enough to not overpower the true highlight of the record: the infectious guitar performance. However the lowlights are more prevalent on this record than any Currents record to date. The drums sound like they were constructed with a three-piece kit, Kick, Snare, Cymbal. After listening to the project three times over, I cannot tell you a single moment in which the drums didn't feel heavily neglected, even in moments where the guitar had died down to ambience - where the drums are SUPPOSED to shine. This record feels like it was made by a guitarist and a vocalist, and that the drums, bass and electronics were just an afterthought designed to fill in the gaps left behind. This isn't necessarily a BAD thing, however the vocals aren't exactly carrying the heavy work for them with this record arguably having the worst choruses and most underwhelming screams of any Currents record yet. The project has enjoyable tracks and solid moments, but all in all it's mostly a let down for me. I'm sure it will translate better when I see them live this month. The Death We Seek is a 5.5/10 Edit: on The Way It Ends, basslines are present and tasteful in songs like Second Skin, the toms and hi-hats in songs like A Flag To Wave are up-front, prominent and the cymbals don't sound like they're being strangled by the mix. All of that is done without ignoring the fact that guitar is the focus of the record. It's hard to fathom why the band abandoned the production of 3 years ago in favor of this because it is NOT doing them any favors.
Great album but after listening to the Place I Feel Safest then this they seem to have regressed technically over each album. (BTW) If you haven’t heard that album 100% worth a reaction. Top creative Currents IMO

Don’t agree brother. So alone is very similar to the end we seek and in my opinion Vengenance is the weakest track of the album. I’ve been preferred Living in tragedy and Over and Over as singles

Honestly this is IMO way better than new IA. Music tastes are just different, never got into the new vocalist of IA. Sorry but his cleans are pretty hard to get into. Loved Stillword and Everchanger and even some of Greyview. But Heavener just doesn't click with me. Currents on the other side never dissapoint. The Way it Ends was their "worst" album of their discography and still one of my favorites of all time. TPIFS and ILTDI are just outstanding and TDWS shapes up to be my favorite this year. Even though Half Me, Graphic Nature and Darkmatter released some amazing stuff. Also this is just my opinion, IA are amazing musicians. Favorite track has to be Living in Tragedy for me. Drew also check Out new Darkmatter. Just a 3 Song EP. Since you really enjoyed new Northlane with all the Synthwork you're gonna love this. If I had to describe it its like Dystopian SciFi Metalcore. You'll love it. Greetings from Germany btw!
Am I the only person that thinks this is very sub par for currents potential and they went way more mainstream on this album? And this is coming from a die hard currents fan
@@corikoenig7725 so the. I’m totally opposite in you on this and I get that cause to each is own but I definitely think the last album had so many great moments and this album seems so generic for them idk
Gotta say As much as I'd respect your opinion I have to heavily disagree on the mainstream part All it did was refine it's sound and evolve it Think back to previous albums and how it pushed the envelope This album does the same, and I feel if you keep listening to the album, you may begin to see the craft and care put into the album Nothing about this album is mainstream, if anything, all it is is evolved.
For me this album is a refinement of The Way It Ends but it also plays it a bit too safe. The worst songs here are better than the worst songs on TWIE but the best songs here don't come close to the best on their previous records. Currents have a good formula for writing catchy metalcore, I just wish they pushed the boundary a little more on this album.
Exactly what I was thinking, there isn’t a single song to me that absolutely melts my face off, though there are no songs that I would skip every time I listen to it… Overall The Way It Ends is a better album imo
I know the Currents fans may kill me, i'm ready 🔪🥰 This feels like a decent modern metalcore album, but personally AS A BASIC LISTENER AND NOT A CRITIC - i don't like this due to several reasons: 1. The vocals of Currents have always seemed a bit raw for me and this album isn't exception to this rule. It just feels unexplainably raw and... Empty? Even though in this album there are a lot of interesting vocal parts. 2. The mix and mastering in general is bad, i can't get satisfied with it. Including even the insanely weird-sounding guitars not in a good way of heavy(Just listen to a beginning of "So Alone") and if you think it's a perfect mix, i don't know what to say... 3. Maybe the album has got some interesting ideas, including the heavier parts even with a high-screams but the both previous reasons have ruined it. 4. Singles before album release were not surprising nor interesting for me, except for "The Death We Seek" and "Vengeance" maybe, the others were just boring even though heavier parts returned, i literally didn't hope for anything better this time, anticipation showed itself from the worst side. What would have fixed the main problem? -The good production of the album; I don't know what exactly i don't like in some previous works, there are a lot of good songs. There's something boring about them that i can't explain, unlike Invent Animate, Northlane, Loathe, Thornhill... etc Most of these bands have/had something special about them, i can't say the same about the Currents for some reason and i really can't explain it, maybe it's all about taste. I don't like to compare bands usually, but there were so many people telling me that Currents might have the better album than Invent Animate, but even based on their singles it was wrong. Heavener is the perfect example of incredible modern metalcore album with incredible mix that shows how fucking wide metalcore could be after Killswitch Engage era songs like "My Curse" or Northlane's - Singularity album in general. These reviews and those guys making posts about metalcore on twitter and on the internet in general, telling me that new Currents album is a strong AOTY - feel too much sold literally. I just don't understand why people skip the mixing part and why some of them like the mixing of this album. No need to tell me that i need some special set for this or that it is just a bad youtube quality, i listened to this album for a several times everywhere now and the production is just bad as it is. What's bad in accepting it? I'm surprised some people still deny it. 7/10. Their worst production yet. Not AOTY for me. This is the case when bad production destroyed amazing album.
Agreed, musically Currents is definetely top 5 for me, but production is hard on them. Not sure if it is Chris or the other guy that also collaborated producing but sounds mushy. And I'm a big fan, been following since The Place I Feel Safest
I'll agree the mix is a bit strange. It sounds like the kick drum is on 10 while the cymbals are on 2, which is not ideal when the cut of those cymbals is really what creates that space in so many great sections of metal music. The electronics are LOUD, while the bass seems nonexistent unless it's placed beside chugging guitar sections. It's worse on certain tracks than others though, it's not a dealbreaker for the best songs on the record still being enjoyable.
It's almost like we can enjoy when good craftsmanship is put in front of us If you can't see it, then you're just another erra "it needs to be heavily technical" fanboy

AOTY. ‘guide us home’ and ‘remember me’ are hands down the best.
also ‘living in tragedy’
Am I the only person that thinks this is very sub par for currents potential and they went way more mainstream on this album? And this is coming from a die hard currents fan
To me and this is definitely just my opinion but this doesn’t even come close to heavener
I thought that about the last album. To me this is a huge improvement.
@@corikoenig7725 so the. I’m totally opposite in you on this and I get that cause to each is own but I definitely think the last album had so many great moments and this album seems so generic for them idk
Gotta say
As much as I'd respect your opinion
I have to heavily disagree on the mainstream part
All it did was refine it's sound and evolve it
Think back to previous albums and how it pushed the envelope
This album does the same, and I feel if you keep listening to the album, you may begin to see the craft and care put into the album
Nothing about this album is mainstream, if anything, all it is is evolved.
@@junommdnic2005 I couldn't have said it better
i dont like the fact that when you speak the music volume drop :(
Everything will came out after this has no chance for this year. Sorry for the others. This is a MASTERPIECE of core
I know the Currents fans may kill me, i'm ready 🔪🥰
This feels like a decent modern metalcore album, but personally AS A BASIC LISTENER AND NOT A CRITIC - i don't like this due to several reasons:
-The good production of the album;
I don't know what exactly i don't like in some previous works, there are a lot of good songs.
There's something boring about them that i can't explain, unlike Invent Animate, Northlane, Loathe, Thornhill... etc
Most of these bands have/had something special about them, i can't say the same about the Currents for some reason and i really can't explain it, maybe it's all about taste.
Agree 👍🏻
Currents fans (and probably most of people) are not even reading your comment to the end:D
@@vsevolotti It's alright, most of them left assburned after they started to read🤗
a B rated album
good album but nowhere near I Let The Devil In or The Way It Ends
Ain't no way that this is the AOTY for some people
It's almost like we can enjoy when good craftsmanship is put in front of us
If you can't see it, then you're just another erra "it needs to be heavily technical" fanboy
It is
dude i thought I was the only one who liked Currents
