Part 2 of the Jerusalem mini-series. In this episode, we explore the Kidron Valley.
    Season 1, Episode 38
    Transcript:
In the last episode, we walked through Via Dolorosa in the Old City of Jerusalem, which led us to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus spent lis last hours before he was taken to to be judged.
This Episode, we continue the Jerusalem tour as we descend into the Valley of the Shadow of Death.
Jerusalem rests on the edge of two valleys: The Hinnom and the Kidron.
Both of these Valleys do not have a pleasant history.
The Hinnom valley is where some of the kings of Judah sacrificed their children by fire to Molech, who is believed, by some scholars, to be Satan.
The Kidron valley, is where King Jehoshaphat overthrown the enemies of Israel, and where the Levites would throw away the unclean and defiled items to.
The Kidron valley is located on the east side of Jerusalem. If we exit Via Dolorosa street through the Lion’s Gate, and walk a few minutes east, we’ll find ourselves in the valley of Kidron.
Today the valley is a mix of ancient and modern graveyard. Since many Jews believe that they will be resurrected when Messiah will come through the East Gate, they are willing to pay big money to be buried as close to the gate as possible. So they could be the first to enter the new kingdom.
If only they knew that the Messiah they are waiting for had already told them that "the last will be first, and the first will be last."
As we descended lower into the Valley of the Shadow of Death, we find the monument which Absalom built for himself. Through generations, the Jews had an interesting custom to bring their children here and have them throw rocks at the monument, as a reminder to what happens when you disobey God.
According to the Bible, Absalom was not buried inside of his own monument. Instead, he was buried in a shame way. Joab threw him into a pit and piled a heap of rocks on top.
Today the monument is sealed, but in the early 20th century, they were able to get inside and find an inscription from the 4th century: “This is the tomb of Zachariah, the martyr, the holy priest, the father of John”. Could this really be the tomb of John the Baptist?
During the rebellion of Absalom, King David, fled Jerusalem through this valley. Then he mentions this valley in Psalm 23:
“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil;
    For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
Because this valley is located on the east side of Jerusalem, it is covered in shadow most of the day. The overlooking monument of the wicked king Absalom reminds the fate of those who rebel against God. The burial caves scream “death”, and the adjacent valley of Hinnom points to the eternal lake of fire. It makes sense for David to write these words as he fled from Absalom, but it even makes more sense to apply it to Jesus.
This valley is located right between Gethsemane and Jerusalem. So when Jesus was captured in Gethsemane, he had to actually walk through this valley, and into Jerusalem.
Right next to Absalom's monument is what believe to the Tomb of prophet Zachariah. However, the archeologist could not yet find the actual tomb as they have evidence to believe that this is a monolith. Completely carved out of the solid rock and does not contain a burial chamber.

All you have to do is read the Bible. I would suggest you to do it daily and pray and ask the Lord to help you understand what it all means. Ask him to reveal himself to you as you study and I pray that you will ask him into your heart and serve him. Also as you do except Christ into your life ask and pray for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit!! May the Lord bless you and your family on this journey. It's awesome and the only way to God.

The valley of the Shadow of death" is not to be taken as a literal place ie the kidron valley as it is used symbolically as a description of the world, meaning darkness and death are (symbolic) valleys on earth one must walk through as part of the human experience.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. - Psalm 23:4.
      (idiomatic) A very dangerous place.
This is not a reference to any spiritual darkness or the terror we feel when we’re heading to the grave. Rather, it is a reference to how we should regard the dark times in our lives. Financial, medical, relational…whatever is causing us to feel as if we’re walking in uncertainty or confusion, these are the dark times. These are the dark valleys.
We can go through dark, tough times and even endure death - of ourselves or someone we love - but we don’t need to fear. God has already given us the victory over every circumstance because of Jesus’ work on the cross.

@@93556108 Jesus used the eye of a needle as an example when referring to it being hard for a rich person to enter into heaven. There is an actual eye of an needle. Some things and statements used in the Bible refer to real things and real places. This is what Bible Study is. Amazing what one can learn.

    • @93556108
      @93556108 4 роки тому +3

@@saiyongdawn7756 The most likely explanation is that Jesus was using hyperbole, a figure of speech that exaggerates for emphasis. Jesus used this technique at other times, referring to a “plank” in one’s eye (Matthew 7:3-5) and swallowing a camel (Matthew 23:24).
Jesus’ message is clear-it is impossible for anyone to be saved on his own merits. Since wealth was seen as proof of God’s approval, it was commonly taught by the rabbis that rich people were blessed by God and were, therefore, the most likely candidates for heaven. Jesus destroyed that notion, and along with it, the idea that anyone can earn eternal life. The disciples had the appropriate response to this startling statement. They were utterly amazed and asked, “Who then can be saved?” in the next verse. If the wealthy among them, which included the super-spiritual Pharisees and scribes, were unworthy of heaven, what hope was there for a poor man?
Jesus’ answer is the basis of the gospel: "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God" (Matthew 19:26). Men are saved through God’s gifts of grace, mercy, and faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Nothing we do earns salvation for us. It is the poor in spirit who inherit the kingdom of God (Matthew 5:3), those who recognize their spiritual poverty and their utter inability to do anything to justify themselves to a holy God. The rich man so often is blind to his spiritual poverty because he is proud of his accomplishments and has contented himself with his wealth. He is as likely to humble himself before God as a camel is to crawl through the eye of a needle.
Normally, a rich man in Jesus days taught he was blessed by God on account of his richness and thus were chosen for heaven as well. Salvation is by the grace of God and is conditional on that person believing in Christ (Eph2:8).

And I would also wager that EVEN FEWER have been to Absalom's Tomb,(which he had built for himself). Not knowing that he would ie a violent death at a young age, because he rebelled against his Father, King David. "AMAZING to see Absalom's tomb in such detail, AND, that it has survived 2 millenia of wars and such.. To Christians the present ruins in Jerusalem have no spiritual significance but only a historical significance. The majority of the jews living there are unbelievers in Christ and Israel thus is a secular state and cannot be considered a holy land as once before. They are even now persecuting Christians especially those Palestinian Christians. Try preaching the gospel around the temple Mount area and you will be arrested by the jewish government authority. Israel of today only serves as a historical site because of the Messiah.

The wonders in the present modern state of Israel is because of God's hand behind it and it is because of His mercy and it is not because of the wisdom of the nation Israel. Thus all the glory must be focused on God alone.

@@azabigail1 I am viewing Jerusalem from the standpoint as a believer in Christ who ratified His New Testament with His precious blood. New Testament writers Matthew, John, and Paul quote what has already been written in the Old Testament when they speak of Zion.
“In Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.” (Romans 9:33) 1 Peter 2:6 says this stone in Zion is Jesus, “a chosen and precious cornerstone.”
Scriptural imagery suggests both a temporal and a spiritual structure. Zion is a section of Jerusalem or the center of a wider building project encompassing all of Jerusalem. It is a social center, a church made up of individuals faithful to God through Christ. In both senses, Zion is a defense: fortress literally means “fortified place” or “stronghold.”
While the Kingdom of Heaven is real, a physical entity begun with a literal cornerstone, Jesus is the metaphorical equivalent. He is the point of reference from which Zion is built in one’s heart, as important to a Christian’s spiritual foundation and development as a stone to the foundations of the temple David’s son Solomon built. Relationship with and knowledge of Christ brings peace and direction to a believer and defends a believer against spiritual attack.
Zion was once a physical and a spiritual structure, but it is also being built now in the heart of each believer who walks with the Lord obediently and grows in wisdom and peace.
(1Co 3:16) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? (1Co 3:17) If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
God dosen't dwell in building made by hands anymore because His Son had fulfilled all the laws and the prophets(Mat5:17-18). That is why the New Testament never commanded the rebuilding of the third temple and Jesus himself predicted the desolation of man made second temple in Jerusalem which took place in AD70(Mat24:1-2).
(Rev 21:10) And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
(Rev 21:22) And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
According to the Bible, Apostle John in verse21 was given the privilege by God to see a vision and he was shown that great city, "the holy Jerusalem" descending out of heaven from God to earth. Further John in verse22 saw and confirmed there was no temple and spoken of the Lord Almighty and the Lamp as the temple for His righteous saints in their eternal state.
These are my biblical views as a New Testament believer, who trusted in our Lord, Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection. I admit, I am not an infallible being and as such my perspectives could be wrong but this is the best I could make out of it. Thanks and Shalom.

Sharon Soldo what is the amazing video about as it is teaching you wrongly ? Let me prove it to you and consider what I have to say.
Thus their videos are in error.
We can go through dark, tough times and even endure death - of ourselves or someone we love - but we don’t need to fear. God has already given us the victory over every circumstance because of Jesus’ work on the cross.
      Any comments? thank you.

@@myeyestudios5784 do you know this was quoted from psalm 23:4. Please read the whole psalm 23 in its context and you will know it is in spiritual sense and not to be taken literally.
      You have said "No, its litterall just like everything else in the bible". Let me quote some bible verses and you tell me whether your affirmation is true or false;
(Joh 10:9) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
      Is Jesus "the door" ?
(2Co 2:12) Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
      Is it a literal "door"?
(Joh 6:35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
(Joh 6:48) I am that bread of life.
      Is Jesus the literal "bread"?
(Joh 6:56) He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Are you going to eat the flesh of Jesus and drink His blood ? You must be a confirmed cannibalism.
(1Co 10:4) And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
Jesus is known as the Rock but this verse says it is spiritual Rock and not to refer to Jesus as a literal rock.
Only common sense will tell you that you are wrong in your affirmation that we are to read the whole bible literally. I have many, many more verses as it is explicitly stated in the bible, if you insist upon me.
You quoted " The Bible is meant for those with the eyes to see and the ears to hear". Please give me your exposition of your statement and quote to me this verse in the bible. Thank you.

Now you come back and say it is Spiritual terms and not literal terms when in your first statement you say I quote "No, its litterall just like everything else in the bible" unquote. Ask your friends about this and surely they will say you have gone bonkers.
Have you go through Ps23:4 the direct quote of this video; (Psa 23:4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
This psalm writer is David and does he literally walk in the valley of kidron? the valley of kidron is no where mentioned in this psalm. Please pray to the Holy Spirit for the His illumination of your mind instead. People will laugh at you if you mention this to them.

Sudheer Kumar, this video's teaching is incorrect and don't be deceived by its false presentation.
In relating to " the valley of the shadow of death" . Do you know its true meaning?.
always counter-checked it with your Bible.
"The valley of the Shadow of death" is not to be taken as a literal place ie the kidron valley as it is used symbolically as a description of the world, meaning darkness and death are (symbolic) valleys on earth one must walk through as part of the human experience.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. This verse is quoted from- Psalm 23:4.
(idiomatic) read for yourself as this psalm was believed to be written by David when He fled from his son, Absalom. David in verse 2 of this psalm pictured himself as a lamb who lied down on green pastures and the Shephard led him beside the still water. This psalm was interpreted wrongly by this utube presenter who confined the texts to its literal meaning and no where the kidron valley ever been mentioned either as "the valley of the shadow of death.
The Bible warned in these last days there are many false prophets in our world. Thus always check whatever you come across whether they aligned themselves with the word of God .
Hope this brief exposition will benefits you. Thank you.
