- I found a little chick that needed my help. If I wouldn't operate on her she would die within 48 hours. I knew how she could be saved, so I just had to bring her home.

I have about 150 chickens. He was exhaling warm air on the chick, to comfort her and dry her. I do it too with my chicks and I have no beard

Speaking as a chicken owner, this is very easily taken care of when caught early. It doesn't have to get this severe, and it certainly doesn't have to be fatal. Bless this man for being so knowledgeable and caring for these animals. And thank you for taking her home with another chick!

@@foechicken8023 it's called pasty butt, a silly name for something that can quickly become serious. It pretty much happens when their poop doesn't fall off and clings to their feathers or when they sit in their own feces and it begins to collect. This is easily solvable by using warm soapy water and gentle circular motions to work it out. Of course you want to be sure to dry and warm little baby so he doesn't get sick!
@@MauricioNestor if you eat commercially farmed chicken, it's part of life. 25 million chickens are butchered daily in the US. They don't have poo pickers.

It disgusts me how such a simple thing could have been done so much earlier for that chick. It took someone to purchase this poor thing to save her. If they had just wiped the poo off and not let it harden she wouldn't have almost died. It's insane to me how little people care. This man is pure, I'm telling you! Such a little life is still so precious to him!

This is pasty butt, common in chicks all the original owners had to do was remove it before it even built up this much. That's part of maintenance of having chicks. 🤦🤦 Keeping up with their water intake is also important for their first 14 days of life. I'm glad he was able to save this one since the original owners clearly had no idea.
Yeah, I’m shocked that at a chicken show nobody had taken care of that! I’ve had countless chicks arrive with some pasty butt. Especially if it was cold when they ship them!
@@animaanimus8011 it's easy to spot when it begins if your maintaining then correctly. I have always checked chicks I've had daily to make sure they drink water and don't start getting pasty butt.
Yeah, I had chicks and a few of them had their poop stuck but it was a pretty easy fix when it wasn’t so built up like that

@e fred where do you live out of interest? Bottled water can be pennies in the UK. 13p for a 2litre bottle. Even from a proper spring it's really cheap, can be as low as 17p a litre. Personally I drink tap water but no one needs more than 2litre a day really.

👏👏 Sadly, this pasty butt issue is common especially in feed stores. I'm known in my town as the Crazy Chicken Lady because I take chicks out of the local store brooder, whisk them to the bathroom and clean their bottoms. Yes, it's weird but I've seen too many lying dead that didn't have to be. I just LOVE these videos so much! He's a hero in my eyes. ♥️🐤

Ada Mant It's caused by the stress of shipping. It's sad that it happens, but it's easily fixed before it gets this bad. For any of mine that end up with it, I just clean them with a wet rag and dab some vaseline on their little bums so it doesn't happen again. You have to keep checking but after the first week they're usually good.

Absolutely! It's so clear when animals get a helping hand with removing things like this or shaving off excessive hair growth or tumors or whatever, the relief is so obvious. And yet, some humans _sill_ claim that we can't really know if animals think or feel. 🙄 🤦 😒

I watch a channel where they catch seals and cut fishing lines, and nets, bags, and even hooks off of them. The seals almost inevitably panic at first being grabbed, then when they get the obstruction off, some just lay there and look at the guys with this beautiful look that's hard to describe if you haven't seen it before.
Yeah... the poor chick must have felt uncomfortable with that stuck in it. Poor thing.. this is a problem that happens too often

YES! I've seen it in chicks and pet rats and intervention has rarely been successful. THANK you! I'm sure the release of pressure was a great comfort and saved it's life. And yes, we'd give baby chicks "a warm" which is where we cup them and breathe warm air onto them. You can see their eyes close and their little comfort peeps. Early intervention is essential before the flesh begins to die from the pressure. Thank you for saving her and sharing with us!

when we first got my chickens there was a lil rooster who had poop stuck to his but and we named him Mr. PoopyButtHole. We took care of the poop and he grew to being a pimping rooster. Sadly he recently passed away protecting the troop. He ended up living a very happy life. RIP

Listen. Chicken are bot like dogs or cats. They are farm animals. Its a business. Here in my country you can buy chicken ducks roosters abd whatever farm animals you want. If simething is wring with them they will let them die. Its not about caring about them. Its about them making eggs for you. Yeah it sounds harsh and it is but even my familly had chicken and ducks a few times and we got a lot if eggs frim them. They sure make your money worth in eggs if they survive long enough. You can get a chick and have it as a pet and you will get eggs from it but normaly in these stores they wont take their time to fix problems like that. Its bit worth it for them

OMG I did the same thing this year too! I had to clean him off a couple times every day with vitamin e oil and make sure the other chicks left him alone (they did - I think they knew he needed help!) Eventually, after about a week and a half, he was able to stay clean on his own. I also found out that he was very vitamin deficient, so adding some powerful vitamins to the water really helped him thrive. Now he's a plucky young rooster and is thriving! I love him so much. I'm so thankful that you helped this chick out! They're worth it. :)

We have been through this too my mother used to put our chickens in such situation in a little warm water small bowl than keep the chicken inside for an hour than start doing the same procedure he has done. This is called “Pasty butt” it is a big danger to chicks at a very young age, but can easily be avoided by anyone who can foster them and it’s easy to do so, though this one has gone too far from that window of time, and needs special care

Just a tidbit for anyone who didn't understand. Every animal is just one, and each of them experience their own individual lives, at all times. Try extending sonder ("The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passed in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it.") to animals.

Poor little one was constipated and they were just going to leave it up as a loss! That would have been a terribly painful way to go... I'm glad there are people that would do something about it.
Not constipated, but it had a condition called "pasty butt", which is common in young chicks, mostly due to diet and environmental conditions, when poop gets stuck to the chicks down, it dries up and blocks the vent.
Imagine the torture and neglect animals go through on factory farms (99.9% of Animal Agriculture…) 💔😖😭

Honestly, I can't believe the first owners didn't try to fix it. It's a fairly common issue in young chicks, and not that hard to catch and fix with some warm water before it gets bad.🤷♀️

It's really hard to keep up with them in pet shops and wherever you buy chicks from because they can come in groups... So you can never really blame them... Imagine keeping up with so many animals

I mean clearly they knew it was an issue, all you have to do is get a toothbrush and very gently scrub for a minute or so, we’ve had to do it with our chicks since chicks aren’t the smartest and often get themselves into icky situations
It's not a good excuse, but they likely were from a larger farm that deals with thousands and thousands of chicks. It's easy enough to miss at first, and it doesn't take long to go from crusty bottom to plugged up cloaca. If it got to that state - well, not everyone is prepared to massage a giant poo egg from the butt of a chick.

Well maybe to you it is but to me it has feelings, it can love and its a life. I think birds, mostly chickens, are one of the most misunderstood animals that people just see and excuse me for saying, something we just eat. I don't know who this guy is but he is a blessing to all the birds and other wildlife he helps and saves. At least someone believed in that little baby and took a chance and spared a little life.
