    Why are stocks on the verge of a bear market?

    • @kucheranraina9201

      I think many people are finding out that "risk tolerance" is not a psychological issue but a tangible attribute of their portfolio. If you owned stocks you intended to sell in the next ten years, then you may have had high personal psychological risk tolerance but your portfolio had very low real risk tolerance. The suggestion is that people shouldn't panic and sell when the market goes down locking in their losses. But if you will need the money now or in the near future you really have no choice unless you are willing to bet the market will go up before you need to sell.

    • @AyaanFarax223
      @AyaanFarax223 Рік тому +1

      Your comments do support the need for diversification and strategic investment planning before being in the midst of market turmoil as we are experiencing now. Anyone needing money now or in the near future should not be invested in equities to begin with. The longer your horizon, the more risk and the higher percentage of your portfolio can be in equities. In 10 years, it's highly likely the S&P will be substantially higher than it is now. In the near term, perhaps unlikely. I Bonds, FDIC savings accounts and the like can provide safety for emergency funds, retirement living expenses and other short-mid term needs.

    The largest increases in the stock market come soon after the largest losses, so if you sell now you'll most probably loose out on the gains.

The reason they're still below 3% is there's still this belief that the inflation is transient.
