You are smart consumers, not cheapskates. I did the same thing this past summer when I traveled alone in China. I traveled through 8 cities in 2 months and used only public transportations like metro and buses. I love it and your video reminds me of my time in China. Way to go and keep up the good work. I will follow you guys! 😀💯👍💪

I guess i would do that if time is no longer a problem, ie when i am retired. For now, DD + train do the job well, especially DD is so affordable compared to other countries around the world.

Congee is rice base, porridge is wheat base. Add a splash of soy and a few drops sesame oil to any congee and it will taste great. So weird to call it a "rice roll" it's known as cheung-fun which is also a dim-sum dish. Cheung-fun is the kind of texture in food that the Chinese palate prizes, soft, tender and slippery almost no chewing required.

I agree, I dislike it when people give weird english names just because it's easier to pronounce😂Local Cantonese do not add soy or oil into their congee because this will make the congee more watery separating the rice from the water imo. They only add white pepper if necessary.

Welcome to GZ the food and shopping capital of China. First there are many levels of food in GZ from the cheap , middle and high end. There is also a lot of fresh seafood ( swimming in the tank fresh ). Dim sum is prolly the most famous here but there are a lot of levels up to 1 star Michelin to fit every pocket- preferably hand made. Then there are steamed, braised, clay pot, wok stir fry, hotpot, deep fry - various cooking methods. Then the numerous sauces and preserved veg , herbs, spices, different soy sauces depending on what you cooking, dried ingredients ( shrimp, squid, mandarin peel, mushrooms, roots, dates, wolfberries, fish , scallops etc ). So GZ Cantonese cooking can get very complicated. It also goes according to the seasons ( weather , seasonal veg etc ). The amt of heat and time in cooking is crucial. That’s the intricacies of Cantonese food.
The other thing in GZ is famous for is shopping cuz it has a lot of wholesale mkts for clothes , shoes , toys , electronics, mobile accessories, leather goods , teas , etc.
Last but not least , sightseeing Canton Tower , malls , Canton Place, Chen house, ZNT , BJ Rd. Wen De Lu art st. , 108 fl Rosewood etc.
GZ is way more affordable than SZ , SH or BJ. Enjoy your stay.

Guangdong is the foodie's province of China and most people don't know is also the province where revolutionists like Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is from whose movement overthrew the Qing dynasty/monarchy in 1911 which lead to Mao's movement in creating today's modern day China. Good food or lack of creates great revoluntionaries !

    Cultural difference:
In the west, deals are pegged as xx% off. The bigger the number, the better deal.
In China, deals are heralded as #折. (Price times #/10)
In your case, the restaurant posted 8.8折 at the entrance. Your order came to 21 Yuan. 21 x 8.8/10 is 18.48 Yuan.

Strange new functions like temperature and mood 😂

The "funny looking pork" Reanne had was pig's liver 😂
And that was green bean popsicle there
Congee is actually rice cooked to sort of become puree, add sesame oil, soy sauce and some spring onions you'll find a whole new world
Although i'm not by birth Chinese from China, both my paternal and maternal grandpa were, and their hometowns are nearby where you guys are at, so, welcome to GuangZhou!! The paradise for avid shopper and radical foodies, it's the land of "we eat anything that can walk, fly and swim" 🤣
also, goto 永庆坊 (Yong Qing Fang) to have a glimpse into GuangZhou's history
there's a whole list of food you simply shouldn't miss, such as:
烧鹅濑粉 - roast goose rice noodles
双皮奶 - "Double skin milk" dessert that's made of milk, egg whites, and sugar
    肠粉 - steamed vermicelli roll
广东啫啫煲 - Guangdong JeJe Pot (can be seafood, chicken, beef)
    煲仔饭 - Claypot Rice
炒牛河 - stir fried beef vermicelli noodles
烧腊 - roasted pork (a general name for crispy pork belly, roasted honey char siew, etc
爆汁生煎包 - juicy pan fried dumpling / bun with pork as fillings
and the list just goes on and on, just goto 西华路 (Xi Hua Lu)to challenge your tastebuds
