Great video. Absolutely spot on. Those two lakes are a little piece of heaven on Earth. Yes, the lake was a lot cleaner years ago especially when I was growing in the 70's and 80's. Pogradec city hall must employ more people to keeps lake's shores clean and there are machines made in US or Germany that at least in one trip can clean the shore a few meters inside the lake from the bunkers to Tushemisht.

My Family comes from a village on the macadonian side that borders the lake.
We have visited the lake every summer only interruped by corona 2020.
It has changed so much since my childhood and unfortunately often not for the better. In the sake of tourism off which a lot live of there politics has done shady deals.
The partly untouched nature has lost more and more of its former beauty and people either do not value this really unique gift they've been given or have grown tired and hopeless because of the corruption they can not overcome. The reagion is like a pearl with steep mountains full of natural fresh water sources. The forests invote you to hike the wild Highlands that surround the fertile valley basin that was known as the fruitbaskett of the southern balkans.
Famous for its sweet watermelons and rich red apples.
My heart is full of unforgettable childhood memories but pains to see it mismanaged and not cherished as it should.

If you across the Big Qafë Thanë Border you see only albanians Flag or Albanian Eagle im Macedonia.
My ancestors are from Ohrid. All Albanians who were Orthodox were Azimilated. Now you only speak Macedonian (Bulgarian). But the old people arround the Castle speaks albanian. There are censuses that prove it. Or old Pictures from the City. You see the albanians with the white Cap.
Evidence of this are also surnames that only exist in Pogradec and Ohrid... only slightly changed with (Ski or Vic)

The inhabitants of the Ohrid Region, on the Macedonian side, are rather mixed. After the Voskopojë exodus, a large Aromanian community settled here, in towns and villages around or near the lake. Also, the lowlands of the town of Ohrid in Ottoman times were mostly inhabited by Turks, then Albanians and Balkan Egyptians (large Albanian speaking minority of distinctive background present in several countries). The old town and many villages around and near the lake had Macedonian (or by some sources at the time Bulgarian) inhabitants. Due to the Orthodox background, many Albanian and Aromanian families merged into the Macedonian community. During the Kingdom of Yugoslavia there were Serbian and Montenegrin settlers, as well as Russians that fled the newly formed USSR. By language Albanian is the first (in Struga) or the second (in Ohrid) language in use. When I was in Pogradec, I also noticed surnames that were the same as in Ohrid, but when I asked the people, they didn't recall of distant relatives in Ohrid. I believe that some branch emigrated to Ohrid from Pogradec.

Because Ohrid as a city is Albanian. Always has been. The lake belongs to Albania, even though today most of it has been given to N Macedonia. Dirty politics have been made against Albania for centuries so it is no wonder. Nobody wants Albania to even exist at all. If you go way back to the Treaty of London, the big powers back then wanted to give Albania a territory less than Kosovo's square per KM. The borders would be from Durres (Excluding the City as it was promised to Serbia so they would have access to open sea down to Berat. Also Vlora would be annexed by Greece and the entire Southern Albania down.) Luckily we had true men that fought for the sovereignity of our Nation. Even today Albania is not actually a complete state. Many cities starting from SOuth Montenegro (Ulqin, Tuzi, Tivar), Kosovo, Southern Serbia (Presheva, Bujanovc, Medvegja), N. Macedonia (Diber, Struga, Shkup, Tetova, Oher a.k.a as Ohrid), in Greece, (Preveza, Arta, know as Cameria). Also Sanxhak Region (Divided between Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia) ALl of these municipalities were once part of Albania. So yeah we Albanians value everything that has been ours and what is ours, even though our government doesn't give a damn what happens to the nation because all they care about is how much money they make out of it.

Neither Macedonians, nor Albanians respect the natural and cultural heritage of the Ohrid Region, the reason why it is enlisted in UNESCO. Heavy pollution, overfishing, urbanization without plans in both countries, forcing of mass tourism instead sustainable tourism, are just a few serious issues that endanger the region. Ironically, the locals are the ones that show least respect, along with greedy local administration and corrupted institutions that allow negative and harmful practices.

To be precise, the area where the monastery of St Naum lies was within the borders of Albania for a short period from 1912 until 1925, when Zog of Albania ceded it to Yugoslavia as a result of negotiations between Albania and Yugoslavia and as a gesture of goodwill. The monastery, to this day is visited and respected by many people from Albania. Naum was one of the disciples of Cyrill and Methodius, the missionaries and educators, that created the earliest Slavic alphabet - the Glagolitic script.
