PTX has often relaxed the a capella "rules" for their holiday albums, adding strings or backup voices for a bigger sound. And their recent original songs use more vocal editing and effects, and occasionally synths as they work with experienced pop producers and sound editors to get a more radio-ready sound.
Usually, when they add strings, you can see the instruments on the video, but not this time. I think mostly the weird sounds on the Lucky Ones are human voices that have been tweaked with computer, so they are technically acapella and not synths. But yes, they were clearly going for more radio-friendly sound, and I actually liked the album, but I don't think it worked they way they wanted it to. I think Jacob has actually reacted to that album already.
So glad you got to this! This whole album dropped today and it's a Global album. Holidays Around the World. This is definitely a more mature PTX sound. BTW you have 154 PTX reactions on your playlist. You haven't reacted yet to Scott's single Mars, you should check that one out, it was Awesome, if you think he sounds good on this, it's WOW!! Kirstie post-baby has a definite shift in her voice, deeper, richer tone. Always a pleasure getting your take on PTX! ❤
You are right about Scott's intensity. He has always wanted everyone to be accepted, so it is definitely from his heart... everything is great about this song and video per their usual!
I do so love when you react to Pentatonix. I agree that Scott is just a beast when it comes to vocals. I don’t see a reaction to Mars, his recent solo release, so you may want to put that on your list. If you do react to it, you may want to include the teaser video (called something like Mars Now Available) in which he does an a cappella snippet that showcases his power. I always learn something from you, so thanks! Peace from Ohio …
Beautiful vocals by all of them. Great message, so important. I thought I had missed my chance to see your reaction to this song, glad it's back up. Without looking I couldn't say how many videos are on that playlist, my best guess is Not Enough.
I believe that the change in them is their maturity, AND, they're really feeling it. They believe in this cause. They've all grown so much and have worked so so hard on their instruments. Thanks for your excellent reaction!
For me, the Mitch moment in this is his first entrance where he suddenly goes up an octave with no apparent effort, and on a rather difficult vowel, "Help US through". FYI -- this was written by Diane Warren, originally for Cher to sing in a documentary about Syria. Cher didn't like her version enough to release, so Warren re-worked it a bit for PTX.
They are better than we deserve. They seem to have the ability to release songs that the world needs to hear. Some songs that I think fall in that category are That’s Christmas to Me, Sing, Imagine, Amazing Grace, Mad World, Thank You, The Prayer, and now Prayers for This World. We need to keep making Pentaholics so people can hear the beautiful messages that they regularly put out.
Hi Jacob, I love it when you get into details about production and recording vocals…super interesting! I do love the progression their video production has shown over time too…I love watching their early videos in comparison to now…Wow! The growth in their overall sound is amazing and they were fantastic to begin with! I keep thinking, how can they top this?! And they find unique ways to grab our attention and pull at every heart string, don’t they?! ❤😊🌈🌹🔥🎶
As you have said in many a video, it’s inspiring to watch vocalists improve over time! That’s what we have here, full mature voices & emotions that match their season of life experiences.
The instruments are because “Christmas Around the World” album. Each song represents another nation, including singers and instruments. The album is up. It is gorgeous.
I found your assessment of the song to be quite accurate. Not every singer or member of the group is going to stretch themselves outside the box on every song. Mitch was definitely within his comfort zone here I think he was focusing more on color and texture rather than range and stretch. I agree with you this is their best sound production to date. What an amazing song. Thanks for the great review Jacob. And happy New Year to you.
I'm a huge Mitch fan, but Kirstin is the one whose solo gave be the chills, when I fist heard this song. I think this was recorded when she was pregnant with Evie, which might affect the sound a bit. Either way, she sounds great. They all do. I agree Scott is a very expressive singer, which is probably why he often gets the solos. I think this needed to be performed very earnestly, like they really mean it. Otherwise, it would be all Peace, Peace, Love, Love ( ua-cam.com/video/Cv6tgnx6jTQ/v-deo.html ) I have found myself praying for the world lately, even if I think it's mostly futile. I just don't know what else to do.
There’s a live video from Hollywood Bowl for this song also and it was just as strong and powerful. Even more beautiful to see them lean into the emotion of the song!
For me, it's only a so so song overall (it's more than a bit cliched). But Kirstie is definitely the Star of this. This song is real evidence of the crazy amount she's developed her vocals. The low end is her friend.
Wow, its been a minute since I have seen you react to PTX!! So glad to see you back in the walk with PTX that I love so much!!! Jacob, you have grown so much in the last couple years I have been subscribed to you!!! Cannot wait to see you do more PTX!!!
This is a song written by Diane Warren years ago for Cher. This project jumped around many interpretations...still vote for a female vocal on this one.
Some of them is originally from different artist, like the Christmas in Our Hearts, it is a Filipino song, originally by Jose Mari Chan, and they featured the Tony awards' Best Leading actress in a musical and the first Asian woman to won, Ms. Lea Salonga.
@@averageloobs9597 it's a very tired Christmas song among us Filipinos, if you ask me, but fun to sing in karaoke during parties. The PTX arrangement gave it a lift. The harmonies made it more emotional. Lea Salonga is great as always (I think this is a "simple" song for her calibre) but it does make us proud
@@bethvargas8841 Yeah at some point, but it is a classic song that lift the spirit and joy of Filipino Christmas, that's why I'm somewhat proud that PTX made a cover of Filipino music...
@@averageloobs9597 I too am very proud of this. A lot of talented artists and Christmas songs from around the world and it got included in a PTX album. When I first lesrned abt this, I told my friends 3x Grammy awardee PTX meets Tony awardee/Disney princess/Filipina Lea salonga. I wonder how they selected the songs and artists. I wonder if Scott's fiance had something to do with it lol
Since you mention they sound like their begging and you so tech you need to listen Auroras inhale exhale vevo you have to watch it !!!!!!! i think you will see her growth as a human and true pleading for our planet
@@JacobRestituto I've always found your reactions to be tempered and balanced, with the emphasis on the music without necessarily needing to lean into the fan-girling element. I find it refreshing but Mitch does seem to have this fanbase that isn't happy unless they can go around declaring "Mitch-slapped" on every reaction. 🤷♀️ You keep doing you, I like that your reactions are more aimed at analysing the musicianship.
I get what you’re saying, but he doesn’t have to like everyone’s vocals. He either gives Mitch a backhanded compliment or ignores him completely. I’ve come to expect this from his reactions so it doesn’t bother me. He still understands the music and I do appreciate his commentary on the group as a whole. And this is coming from a huge Mitch fan.
Don’t think you’ve checked out Scott’s solo “Mars”..it really shows how his voice has developed…☺️
😋😮😮😮
@@JacobRestituto also failed to mentioned the video is stunning..and Scott directed…
I second this!
@@JacobRestituto you've gotta check it out! the videography is insane too
These kids grew up! Hard to believe they could’ve gotten any better but hot damn they sure did.
Right!?
Thank you for recognizing the change in their deliveries. Their voices are so intense, I think it goes to their maturity and confidence.
