I played this about a year or two ago. I was 1st clarinet. Yay! It was nerve wracking for the concert because I was so afraid I would play a wrong note. XD
I played this at my college holiday concert yesterday and I nailed that euphonium solo and tbh when I played it, it was probably the best I ever played it even though I was so shaking before I started playing
we are playing this for a concert band competition sort of thing called MPA and our band directors dad is Robert W Smith he arranged this song for his mother-in-law
I play euphonium, and I'm playing this song for my concert next week. Listening to this to practice counting and, hopefully, not miss my solo entrance this time
Bean Sanders what makes me sad is that I’m in the lower band playing thing (high school freshman) and the wind ensemble is playing buglers holiday :( my fav band piece
I’m playing this this semester! Kinda scared because it’s just me playing for a while instead of having the band behind me while I solo but it‘a a great arrangement and is good at practicing nerves!
Holst is one of my favourite modern composers. Instead of going along with his contemporaries and predecessors down the atonal or simply excessively impressionist path, he literally wrote religious music.
Britain somehow managed to mostly avoid the atonal craze that infected Europe and America in the early 20th century. Hence, we still have great music of that period from Holst, Vaughan Williams, Grainger, Elgar, Walton, and many others.
I fucking hate band I dont even want to be in it anymore. Im only in this shit because I feel bad that my mom is paying for the instrument and I cant leave because of her
RIP ROBERT 💔😢 He deserves respect to all the music he has made.
A true legend, like him will never die

Oh boy. I dont have to worry about solos because no one likes the Tubas, but I bet it's still nerve-wracking nonetheless. I hope u did good.
Hope you did well
@@stalewaterbottle It did go well. Thank you! :D
@@carolinekorenek4649 Hope you do well! It is definitely a very beautiful piece!
God that sounds scary! I’m going to do the solo in 2 months! Was it bad?

@@Just_jonny-gd4cd All it was was just practice. If you put time into it then you’ll be fine
omg im playing this in my high school band and I have the euphonium solo and ive just been practicing it obsessively cuz im terrified lol
Just remember to use your air. It’s not a difficult range. Play out; make it yours.
I’m playing this too wishes me luck
I did this song with a French horn solo for my 8th grade concert 2 years ago. It was absolutely beautiful! 🥰🥰
Why is the clarinet solo so quiet?!?!? I can barely hear it ! At least play it loud enough so people can hear
I think it is just the recording
And it’s supposed to be quiet.
Honestly if the solo could get any louder it would get squeaky 😉
Philip N.L my bands doing this song and I’m part of the solo. It’s louder than this but it’s not squeaky
Alainapaloosa2 Ikr, clarinets can play loud and not squeak!
I got the clarinet solo to this song, and it’s my senior year. Im so excited

Robert W. Smith is 100% my favorite Artist. Him and his music must never be forgotten ❤❤

I'm practicing this for my sold out Joel E. Ferris Winter Concert right now! I love Holst's works!
If there is anything that makes me upset that I'm not in honors band.... It's this song
Bean Sanders what makes me sad is that I’m in the lower band playing thing (high school freshman) and the wind ensemble is playing buglers holiday :( my fav band piece
you'll get there soon enough, i believe in you!
@@selender42 i’m a freshman playing this piece
I'm playing this soon! And guess who's soloist?
Your neighbor

Playing this song for my winter concert, lol. I'm so excited, yet scared! (I play clarinet, lol)
I’m playing this this semester! Kinda scared because it’s just me playing for a while instead of having the band behind me while I solo but it‘a a great arrangement and is good at practicing nerves!
why is no one talking about the last three measures 😞 mysterious open endings you will always be famous 😞😞 what a pretty piece!! - a flutist
Got the horn solo for like a few measures 🤝
Great peice but is it really grade 3 cuz we are playing it for hs honor band and one of are songs is grade 4 1/2
Some bands are "better" than others so for some it should be a higher level and for some it should be a lower level.
I'm playing this for a Christmas concert and I play Baritone
Oh this is what more than one french horn sounds like
We have 3 in our band and umm..... you can take them..... I don't claim our horn players.
Luckily my band director is letting me and the other first clarinet share the solo - we sound so good together!🙂
Solo starts at 0:26 to 3:46
Susan Smith is directing our band and we’re playing this on Saturday 😮
