This past weekend I shot my first ever pintail on a very difficult hunt. This is why we do it! For those days where they just want to be where you are and it feels like you can do no wrong.
Nice Thomas ! Like how you are exposing varied hunting conditions for Leroy. You don't need to be on the X with that many birds. From LST on I'd be sitting on peeping for the green wings.I believe you would be surprised how all the ducks respond to a tiny blind hole. Continued success.
Thanks Don! I definitely should've been peeping more, after seeing that big flock of woodies though I had trouble putting the wood duck call down. Hope pheasant opener was a good one for you down there!
@@HokeOutdoors some mallards, and woodies. A few spots have ok numbers. I’m an hr from Champlain which gets most of the ducks. River near me has increased numbers from last year so should be a decent opener.
@@jacobherrmann8140 word, hope y’all have a great opener! Big cold fronts rolling through prairie Canada this weekend might send some fresh birds your way
I like your videos 👍 simple direct good quality also love the fact you end up by blessing everyone! Gods blessings to you hope your season is filled with abundance 🕊🙏😇 also leroy the wonder dog!
Great video. It is awesome when you are sitting on the "X!" I know you said you were 1 hole off the X, but looked pretty good where I was sitting. Haha! That spot would be perfect for a 20 or 28 ga!
Much appreciated! I'll have to look into getting something like that for my dog stand. It would help a lot in some of the deeper cattail sloughs around here as well
Nothing better than hunting with a pal like Leroy. Explore a pirogue for you and Leroy. Google, pirogue in Louisiana. I attach kayak cradle with wheels to tout pirogue and gear. Rick Kaminski, retired waterfowl professor, Mississippi State and Clemson Universities.
Nice hunt Thomas. Leroy was awesome. Fyi- Cabela's/Bps make a form fitted camo cover for that kayak to use as a layout yak. I enjoy the shorter vids you post. Just a preference. They're all good content. 👍

I appreciate it! He's almost 2 now so I would definitely say he's coming out of the puppy stage. I'm very thankful I waited for him to mature a bit before hunting him!
I gave it a few days rest trying to not put too much pressure on it. Hunted it a couple more times this past weekend though because they're draining the water out of the lake at a rapid rate. I'm going to go scout it this evening but I'm pretty sure this hole will be dry now unfortunately
Man I appreciate it! I'm hoping to get over there this season but it probably won't be till November. Have you hunted that woodie spot yet? If so how did it go??
Damn I thought y'all had a lot of resident woodies over there. How's your season been so far? We're you able to get out for early geese or teal at all?
Or if you're the type that invests the kind of money you could get a quickcoys rig. They're 500 bucks but I absolutely love mine. I leave my spinners at home and put out half a dozen decoys plus the five on the quickcoys rig. Especially with how good you are running a wood duck call I would highly recommend the transition. Remember Woody's love splashing. Good luck to you young man and good hunting.
Thank you! Totally agree on the motion, I typically use a motion ducks rig but I couldn't find my anchor for it this morning. I've hunted this spot twice more after this and used it both times. Made a huge difference in my opinion!
You make duck hunting look so easy
I've just been very blessed to have a great season so far! I'm sure I'll run into some struggles at some point this fall though
@@HokeOutdoors I hope not.

Awesome. Love this slower, simpler content. And ofc love the dog, nice to see guys that take care of their best friend

Leroy is killing it!!
Thanks Josiah!! Getting to hunt with him has been the highlight of my season so far!
Leroy!! Love the name!!!

What a cool place to hunt! Well done Thomas! The amount of feathers left on that little hole....lol
Thanks Elliot! There was definitely a litter more carnage than I would liked. Really appreciate you watching!!
I definitely thought you vaporized that second woodie! Glad you’re back in MN for some action.
Very impressive how many videos you made already this year ! Please keep up the hard work I appreciate the videos. God bless brother
Thanks Thomas! Hopefully many more to come from now until January!
Your channel is growing so fast. Congrats

the amount of pillows you blew up and left in that water! LOL - good shoot

Consider adding a flip-down step for that great dog. Awesome feather cloud and that flash from the Gopro, tough luck. Great vids always.

Leroy seems very even keel for his age
I appreciate it! He's almost 2 now so I would definitely say he's coming out of the puppy stage. I'm very thankful I waited for him to mature a bit before hunting him!
What choke and shot size is your go to? You seem to nail these birds at close and pretty far ranges very well
I'm using a Carlsons light modified choke and was shooting 3 inch #4 shot on this hunt. I'm pretty confident with that choke out to 40-45 yards
Leroy quick learner.
Thanks! He's been picking it up pretty good!
You’ll be right back the same spot the next morning? Lots of woodies.
I gave it a few days rest trying to not put too much pressure on it. Hunted it a couple more times this past weekend though because they're draining the water out of the lake at a rapid rate. I'm going to go scout it this evening but I'm pretty sure this hole will be dry now unfortunately

@@HokeOutdoors yes I have I have gotten a limit before I think last weekend
What kind of shotkam do you use?
Shotkam Gen 4
Dude i find holes that look just like this and northern michigan and get like 2 wood ducks to fly through 5 mins before light
Damn I thought y'all had a lot of resident woodies over there. How's your season been so far? We're you able to get out for early geese or teal at all?
What Type of gun you have?
And also your rate of fire is not good enough that's why you hit only 1 or 2 ducks maximum in huge flocks
What woody call do you use?
Duck Commander Woodie
👍
Haha note to myself bring chokes with myself
Haha for real! I had mine with me but I need a torch to get my typical choke out of my gun 🤣😅
Is that the haydels teal call?
Polk Patterns teal call
If you ever hunt that spot again. borrow a 20 ga.
Haha no kidding, the next time I hunted this spot I broke out the 28ga and that worked perfect for this hole
