The Chateau Leoville Barton was available here for only a short time... I was able to snag a bottle and it was like drinking what heaven is supposed to be like. I sure wish I could get another. I think it was a limited release. You're very lucky to still be able to find it!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary the 2017 Leoville Barton Wine is about $130 at Total Wine. I'm sure you've spent more money on a bottle of whiskey! I know I have! And like Erik said, both years are fantastic and cellar worthy!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary This is going to sound insane but... I was just watching this video (Sunday March 21st) and I have absolutely NO recollection watching it or commenting on it. And I would NOT recommend the 2018 and 2019 (too young) vintages but rather the 2009, 2010 or 2015. So, why don't I remember watching it? Because 2 days ago I was high on anesthesia (sedatives) from a having major dental work done. I have no memory of how I got home (my brother drove me to/from the appointment) and apparently I watched and commented on this video while on REALLY good drugs so I don't remember it. Anywho, thanks for the shout out and I LOVE The Greenspot Chateau Leoville Barton! By the way, I visited the chateau in 2015 and was surprised to hear them pronounce "Barton" exactly as you pronounced it!
I'm glad youre doing better and really funny. When I saw your comment I thought I remembered you saying those were bad years, but I assumed I remembered it wrong
For some reason, both of these finished Green Spots are $65 in Ohio, though they originally released at $100. This is the one I prefered, and think is well worth the current price. I'd have a harder time justifying $100, though.
You describing the initial nosing of this was the same experience I had with the original Green Spot. I am letting is sit now and hoping I like it better. I was shocked how much I didn't like it originally.
Price for this one in Europe is the equivalent of USD 60-65, and for that it's lovely. I agree with you about the vanilla frosting being the dominant note on the nose AND on the palate. Not very strong winey notes at all.
Great advice on letting bottles sit after opening before drawing conclusions - picked up one of these and look forward to opening it up with good friends.
Interesting review Bill. I reviewed this on my channel this week. I get similar notes to you but for me, it's like dessert in a glass. I like sweet whiskey, and this is probably my favourite Irish whiskey. The Chateau Montelena wasn't a patch on this for me.
To add to the naming bit - Barton isn’t an Irish surname, though is common in Ireland along with the surnames Dalton and Dillon. These surname are Norman in origin from the Norman invasion of Ireland a millennia ago. Normans were a French/Viking hybrid. So Barton is actually French! But of course it wouldn’t have been pronounced in Ireland the French…..but neither would it have been pronounced the English way until recently as Ireland only becomes English speaking from the 1820’s onward. While the name had been in Ireland since the 1100s. Meaning the way it would have sounded when Thomas Barton went to France would have been how you’d pronounce it in Irish (what you’d likely call Gaelic) - which would sound like ‘Bore-Toon’!
"Skip the Red" Interesting, as I searched for my Red Spot for several months, and it wasn't what I was expecting at all. The Yellow Spot is my favorite, followed by Blue and Green. I do not have the other two Green at this time.
I love this Green Spot, and I was lucky to get it for 80 bucks. I agree 100 dollars is too much but also believe it's the best green spot. I also could not figure it out what was it citrus note, finally went to the grocery store and bought different type of citrus that I can find,Kumquats-really small orange-like fruit with a sweet skin and a little bit of a tart, I also get little bit of white pepper could be a ABV. Great review, this is what makes whiskey tasting so great so we can agree to disagree. Cheers to all stay healthy and well.
Why would ANYONE be mad about more Spot whiskeys? First time I tried Red Spot it was a semi-religious experience. Love the history of this liquid, so interesting!
Everywhere I see the Chateau M and the Chateau LB they are the same price including Total Wine and several online retailers. I like the CLB a little better but I agree you can't go wrong with any of the Spots but I haven't had the Red. Great review Bill! Cheers!🤙
After that thumbnail, I'll never look at my bottle of Green Spot the same way again. Also, great review! Too bad the LB is non-existant in my area these days.
After having the Blue 🔵 Spot I don't think I'll ever use my pennies on any other spot Whiskey. Definitely 🟡 Yellow Spot if I can't find the 🔵. Great video
Great review. Thanks for doing the Leoville, I would pay 100 for this one, but not the Montalana...go figure, tastes 😅. Luckily it is only 65 here. This is one of my top 5 whiskey's (in any catagory). I am starting an Irish collection an have 3 of these, afraid it will disappear...lol.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Tried all the spots except blue, haven't found it yet. But yellow is my favorite spot next to Leoville. I have the Connemara and really like it when in the mood for a peated whiskey. Have not tried Tyrconnel yet but on my list. Will you be reviewing the Knappogue Castle 14? That is probably my favorite Irish along with the Leoville. Actually like the 14 better than the 12 or 16.
The Leoville Barton is easily the best of the 3 Green Spots, and not having had Blue yet, my favorite of the whole Spot lineup. The Red Spot certainly isn't bad, but for the price/expectations from a 15 year, it was easily the most disappointing of them.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary For the price, and the expectations for what they could do with 15 years after seeing how good the Yellow and regular Green were? Very much a letdown.
Sorry there WD but I can't agree. Give me the Leoville Barton over the Montelena every time. When I bought, the Montelena cost $18 euro more than the regular Green Spot and for me it was not able to justify the extra price. The Leoville Barton is currently $115 in CT so for a while I won't be buying any of it either, at least not when the regular is $62.
I buy this gem regularly at 44€ (50$) over here in Germany. This is ridiculous. OK, maybe this is the only time we are better off in this shithole of a country... AMERICA!
Love this whiskey. When it opens up a little I get the strongest strawberry note I’ve ever tasted in a whiskey. Excellent.
Thanks! For the algorithm.

If you can a bottle of chateau Leoville Barton preferably 2019 and 2018 vintages I highly recommend it.
A bit rich for my blood. Maybe someday you and I can have a romantic date and you can get me wine drunk :D

Good choices

What's the best from the spot series. Thanks
In my opinion, Green Spot and Yellow Spot. Many people like the Wine Cask Finishes too, I don't like them as much
What about yellow spot vs redbreast 15. Which is a better buy? Thanks

just a side note on Irish Whiskey month...I noticed the bottles I bought in Ireland are all 700ml...no wonder they drink so fast 😁
