I live and grew up in KY...we took a trip to her house a few years ago, best trip ever...we sat on that porch with her brother and talked for over 2 hrs...he was a very nice man and was happy to talk about their childhood...I asked him questions about their life and it wasn't much different from mine...we grew up in the country..best place on earth to be
i have lived in ky my whole life and still havent had a chance to go see her home i am only 2 hrs away from it. loretta is one of the best country singers she is truly the queen of country music!!!
Very beautiful. Loved hearing the songbirds just singing away. I'm sure life was very tough. But, there are plenty of redeeming qualities to living the way they did . . . fresh air, a sky full of diamonds at night and lovely sounds of nature. Loretta's mother sat her on the sewing machine while she was working and taught her how to sing, as she did with the other children. Loretta's mother, siblings, children and grandchildren can all sing. Several of them write songs too. What a joy this family is.
thanks for uplaoding this. Most of Loretta's family is in the music business. When her sister Crystal Gayle, born Brenda Gail Webb, began singing, she was told to change her name since there was already a singer named Brenda Lee with Decca Records.Loretta then suggested she change her name to Crystal after seeing a sign for Krystal hamburger restaurant chain.
This is just right down the road where I live in johnson county I live in paintsville but its a really good attraction for people that has not been there..
Very cool video, her story/movie has always had a special place in my heart for whatever reason. Cause I love both actors and her story to me is fascinating. Thanks for posting
Lord Have Mercy this reminds Me of the Mountains down south and all the rides, With the Kids All Ways taken a Baby, And The Family Times, So Good On Sutherland Ridge, southern By InJection and Loving it and the Memories
I have been a Loretta Lynn fan ever since I was a very young child. Many years ago I used to chat with Mr. Herman Webb's daughter, Hermalee, and he and his late wife were always friendly to me when I would call. It's hard to believe that I have never had the opportunity to visit Butcher Holler or Hurricane Mills, TN! It's on my list.
I went there taking a chance. And found out July 4th when I went was the day the tour of the home was reopened. It was a nice tour but still have questions about the movie not being the same as the hope place was so when I go back I'll have a few more questions that I didn't ask on the first trip.
They must have changed things since 1981 when my parents went there, nobody charged them money. My mother was outside taking pics and Loretta's relatives came out and said "Come on in!" So she did.
@glugsy G'day mate. I have a friend that live in WINDSOR GARDENS, SA. You'll not need a 4WD to get to the house. When you do get there do not drive up the drive to the house... that was our mistake LOL. We stayed at the Ramada Inn the night before our visit. They had free maps at the check-in counter. You can get more information if you google Butcher Holler Kentucky.... I can't include a link in my reply. If you make it to Michigan let us know.
True, but coal miners back then were paid very poorly None of the safety precautions, and would die of black lung by the time they were in their 40s. Some people think they have it so bad now. They have no idea.
@@RickM1953 I understand. Loved Loretta and her music. I'm not a lover of today's country music. My daughter moved to Murfreesboro when she got married. I was lucky to live there for 4 years. Tennessee is the most beautiful state in the country.
Wow that looks really interesting. Denise and I are from Melbourne Australia and would like to visit Butcher Holler. Do you need a 4WD to get there? Is it hard to find? Her brother seems like a cool guy.
I had a coworker, Valentina Sanchez who went to Loretta Lynn's home, and she was treated like a queen. Did I forget to mention that Valentina is the splitting image of Priscilla Presley? Only thing is Valentina was 22, and of Mexican heritage. Tourists kept snapping their photos with her!
No it was not filmed in this house. Letcher county ky, some was filmed in the Virginia coal mining area's and with Hollywood i am sure some other area's in the US were used.
Living in Kentucky, there is a place not to far from were I live, they call it the holler to, and their nothing bit in breeders , very nasty people! Not that she was or anything. Loretta is my mother's name as well, she has always hayed it!
You could have gone right to the tour and maybe even gotten further than 2 feet past the front door to the rest of the house if you spared the viewer the first 1.5 minutes of you cruising in the power joke. Bravo.

What rugged, green, beautiful country. Loretta Lynn and family are such lucky people to have lived in a place of such natural beauty.

He kept the place up real nice. I didn't know they still lived there.
Very nice house. Not fancy, but warm and homey.

I can describe it in just a few short words. History Damn it. Living History.
I saw them hitting that sharp incline and first thing I thought about was..."You'll never get that jeep up the mouth of this holler!!" lol
Lord Have Mercy this reminds Me of the Mountains down south and all the rides, With the Kids All Ways taken a Baby, And The Family Times, So Good On Sutherland Ridge, southern By InJection and Loving it and the Memories
Amen.
Rich, I hope you make it there someday soon. It's great seeing where the story begins.

It surly is isn't it. Here is where the legend began!
The music in the background made it hard to hear her brother’s explanation of the family pictures.
Helen Gambler sorry about that, but I had no control of that.
