I've heard this a few years ago at a concert and every now and then I return to listen to this masterpiece
I'm from Portugal, and philharmonic bands love using Navarro's compositions. I was first introduced to "Los libertadores" and "osanna in excelsis" and I was so in love with them, I had to check out the rest. And surprise suprise, I adore it. The emotions, the epic sounding themes, even slow passages are incredible to listen to and play. And this one concerto, it makes me feel like I'm elsewhere, in a different reality.
I've heard this amazing piece performed by various oboeists and orchestras but this performance thanks to Ramon, Oscar himself and wind orchestra is simply magnificent..I am still coming back to this gem and wish there was a recording that can be somehow obtained ❤

Lindo concerto de Navarro. Os solos de oboé tem uma leveza mozartiana e os temas são de um lirismo que me levou às lágrimas. Parabéns à banda regida com inteira responsabilidade pelo próprio autor. Foi uma experiência tonal-clássica incrível ouvi-los.

I'm here after last night's airing of the delayed BBC Young Musician 2020 Final. I hope many do as I do, and find this concerto here; in my case, having fallen in love at first listening. It is, as someone mentioned last night "filmic", and I agree. It is so rich and lush that it evokes time and place and emotion, as all the finest film scores do. I am delighted to have discovered this piece, and thank you for it, Mr Navarro.
I'm here listening for exactly the same reason. I had never heard this piece before, now I can't stop listening to it. It's so magical, a magician weaving spells, taking you to faraway places, in another time. I could stay there forever.

Wow, this piece seems uniquely suited to the oboe...it really exploits the shawm-like primitive side of the instrument, that you rarely hear or see!

Beautiful piece that captures the Moorish influence on Spain thru that amazing oboe solo. I had never heard of this composer until I recently saw it performed by the USCG Band and had to find out more.

The ensemble I would perform it with doesn't have any strings apart form double bass, I saw there were cello with the wind ensemble is that marked in the score? I couldn't find a demo version of the score for the wind ensemble but I think I will buy the piano reduction and show that to be conductor.

Rimsky-Korsakov's Variations for Oboe and Wind Band is simiilar in many ways with a pure Russian sound. However it's much shorter.
