How did I miss your golden voice all these years?! What could be a better time to discover you than Brahmotsavam. No doubt, you are blessed by Lord Venkateswara! My pranams!
Even me ☹️
👌👌
My bedridden, 83 year old mother, expressed a desire to listen to this wonderful song just now, Siddharth! She enjoyed every bit of it!
Also make her listen to Tunga teeradi by great legend Pandit Bhimsenji❤

I am a Bengali.I can not understand your language but your dedication to so powerful music connected me with God.
For the benefit of the non kannada listeners and for anyone who wants something more out of the song :
Translation :
What wrong have I done , Rangayya Ranga?
You have to protect me !
It is a question of your pride and validity as a respectful person, people won’t judge me (but your credibility is at stake if you don’t protect me )!
Oh protector of the fallen , Thirupathi Venkataramana!
Wasn’t Prahalada a rakshasa, wasn’t Dhruva a small kid , wasn’t Ajamila’s bad deeds overflowing ? Were they your sister’s children for you to have gone and protected them (why not come and bless me too ) ? || 1 ||
Did Gajendra call you? , did Draupadi send you an invitation to protect her? , you yourself happily liberated Ahalya from her curse (in the same why why don’t you yourself come and bless me ?) || 2 ||
Didn’t you bestow everything on the person who just came to you with 3 fists of Avalakki (Reference to Sudhama) , Oh Aprameya Purandara Vithala you yourself have to kindly bestow upon me your grace and protection with your presence just like you do to shesha when you sleep on the snake bed thereby blessing him with your presence ! || 3 ||
This is a literal translation and just the tip of the iceberg ! The Tattva or essence of this particular song is immense ! This can be a topic for an hour or an entire week itself !
Here’s my humble attempt to help you decipher the profound tattva(Essence/message) behind this seemingly simple song !
Firstly the constant reference and emphasis on Srimad Bhagavatam, Mahabharata and Ramayana (which inturn resonate the message of the Vedas themselves ) indicates it’s importance and the need for one to realise the power of a devotee and the distinction between himself and the lord !
Tattva : Parama atman (He is distinct from everyone else and can only be known through his pass times through the Lens of devotion )
Message : Karma (Please get yourself familiarised with the lord by making an effort of reading his pass times)
Secondly through the various examples Shri Purandara Dasa brilliantly shows that the lord is impartial at all times , he does not see the gender(Ahalya,Draupadi), caste(Prahalada) , age (Dhruva), past deeds (Ajamila) or status (Sudhama) of the devotee who immersed himself in devotion , so much so that he doesn’t even see if the devotee is a human or an animal (Gajendra)! There is not an ounce of partiality done by the lord wrt a true devotee ! He does not even wait for the devotee to invite him , he himself runs towards the true devotee ! Shri Purandara exactly uses this point to ask the lord to be impartial towards him as well and come to him himself as he cannot be forced by anyone !
The tattva: Swatantra (He is self dependant and only he has to come to you or make you go to him, therefore he expects nothing from anyone which makes him truly impartial by all means and at all times) !
Message : Jnana (Please try to understand the lord , his way of working and understand how he acts/reacts towards his devotees )
Thirdly Shri Purandara concludes with a very important message through the example of Sudhama ! Often people are at a fix as to how to serve the lord , what to offer to him and how much does he expect ? The lord is complete in all aspects , all he expects is anything filled with devotion ! Neither The quantity nor the quality matter as he is quantitatively and qualitatively Complete ! All that matters is the intention with which you offer anything to him (be it 3 fists of rice or 3 quintals of rice ) ! So the devotee need not plan to make sophisticated arrangements to offer something to the lord instead needs to mentally and physically surrender to him after knowing his qualities through his pass times seen with the Lens of devotion ! After this the devotee can stay assured he will be protected as the lord is eternally impartial !
The Tattva: Gunapoorna (He is Complete by all means and at all times both quantitatively and qualitatively , hence only the intention of your offering is what really matters ! Neither your credentials nor what you offer and how much matter at all ! )
Message : Bhakti (Once you have performed the action of reading / hearing about him and trying to understand him there is one more thing left ! You will have to feel or experience his presence inside you and everything around you ! That happens when you unconditionally surrender to him and request him for his grace to be bestowed upon you !)
Please have in mind that you are calling the lord not because you have something to offer to him but instead , he has everything to offer to you ! You are the only one being benefitted in this transaction !
The rules of the game are such : If you are in need of something and want to ask for the same , you only approach a person who has that particular thing in greater quantity and quality than what you have ! The lord is qualitatively and quantitatively complete and his completeness is infinite (his completeness never reduces even if he shares or gives a part of it to someone ) ! Therefore the option left for you is to surrender to him and ask from him nothing but his grace and blessing which will enable you to feel his presence throughout the entire process !
Therefore, try to know him (Karma) through the scriptures , try to understand him(Jnana) through researching and pondering about him and then try to feel him(Bhakti) by surrendering to him !
Please know that Shri Purandara was the incarnation of Narada , who himself knows the importance of chanting the Lords names (he himself is constantly chanting the lords name) , therefore the intention of Shri Purandara will always be to highlight the importance of chanting the lords name with devotion !
There is one common string that exists between All the examples (Prahalada, Dhruva , Ajamila etc ) he has used in this song : All of them have chanted the name of the lord after trying to understand him with immense devotion which made the lord run towards each of them !
Therefore by recollecting all of them and highlighting the power of devotional chanting , Shri Purandara himself chants this song with utmost devotion and only then asks the lord the following : what wrong have I done ? Haven’t I taken your name with utmost devotion through this very song ? Therefore Oh lord you must bless me !
Thank you 🙏
This song and voice is very wonderful
