Nice and relaxing, straightforward instruction. My blood pressure did not spike while watching video. Sunday morning is going well and I thank you for calmly providing instruction that I will put to good use. Fantastic. Thank you. God bless.
Thank you for making that easy to understand. I've just replaced my stator and reg. Went to test it and it fired right up. Pulled in the clutch and shifted into 1st. I felt the click of the shifter and watched the neutral light go off and let out on the clutch. After letting it all the way out the bike didn't move. It didn't even have a thought of moving. So I've done something wrong. I've watched a bunch of videos on this and I wished I would have found yours right out the gate. It's groundhog day daily here at my place. I troubleshoot, fail, wake up, try again and fail. You did a great job on your video but I was hoping you'd go into what symptoms would be if the viewer were to go wrong on any number of of pitfalls that we could experience along the way. Of course j have the luxury of hindsight so I'm not armchair quarterbacks you at all. I'm just wanting to ride and I can't. I'm close but that doesn't get me rolling out of the garage. If you would give me some suggestions to try that would great. There are too many questions I don't have answers to. Like are the clutch plates in the right sequence or did I get something out of order? Or was I led astray by the initial videos? They were saying to bottom out that male thread that goes into the shaft and then back it out 3,/4 of a turn and then tighten the nut? When you didn't mention that it got my attention. Maybe I shouldn't have backed it out once I bottomed out? Sorry for the long message. I just wamt to get out there on my bike. Please help. Thank you!!
The guys from Hill Country are AWESOME!!! If you are putting taller bars on they will tell you what all you need, you order the parts which their prices are great and our order was there the next day!!!!! Unbelievable service will buy from them ALL THE TIME from here on out!!
Great video! This video gave me the confidence to replace my clutch cable on my 2007 HD Ultra Classic 96 cu..... One word of advice, get an OEM cable and not an aftermarket. I made the mistake of buying an aftermarket cable only to find out it was the wrong cable for my bike. Wasted a lot of time but, learned a lot. Bought the OEM cable and everything came together as it was meant to be. :). Also, in my case I had to remove the footrest to get the clearance I needed to get the bottom two bolts in.

nice! Thank you for the video! My 2-piece clutch cable started pulling fluid and causing small drip on my 19 FXLR and figured it was time to change the cable and go to a single piece. Video is just what I was looking for! Greetings from N. Austin!
Thank you so much for clear, concise instruction and the time and effort you took to make this video. My friend and I just finished up a clutch cable install on my newly purchased 2011 road glide. It was very rewarding to work on my own bike.
Great video, I bought a SG that the clutch was way out of adjustment and the cable was to far out on slack. I adjusted the clutch and used Harley's recommended 1/2 turn back off and it's now perfect.
You guys have the best how to videos out there! I’m installing my Hill Country 12” apes on my Road King this weekend. I’ll let you know how it goes. 👍🇺🇸
Keep it up bud so much knowledge in these videos . Just put 14s on my 13sg got all back together and adjusted the slack out the lever . But to can not pull in the lever acts as if its stuck or something
Awesome video nice to meet you take your time and explain and probably one of the first guys I’ve actually seen cover a customers motorcycle actually shows he cares about what he’s working on awesome
Wow, Really helpful with all the detailed explanation, closeup video, and tips on common pitfalls. Thank you! I had a couple of thoughts while I watched that might just add a small contribution to a great video: 1. Would it make sense to say "Drain the transmission oil" instead of "Drain the oil"? You might be surprised at the number of people who don't know that the transmission oil is separate from the motor oil on big twins. 2. With the cable torque at only 3 lbs/ft at the transmission cover, would a drop or two of blue Locktite on the (clean) threads act as both a thread locker and a sealant? 3. If you attach a cut up wire coat hanger to the lever end (eyelet) of the old cable when you pull it through the fairing, could we possibly attach the new cable to the end of the wire and guide it back through the fairing without taking the front of the fairing off? Loved the exhaust pipe tip! I hate taking off all the plumbing! Thanks.
Man, you made that look super easy, so I think my cable is stretched and can’t adjust it from inside the primary case or on the cable adjustment, so looks like I will be digging into this job sometime this week. Ugh!! Thank you for doing this video though, great job!
Excellent videos. I purchased 14" kit last year. They are perfect, the only problem iv had is my clutch cable began to leak , about 3000 miles. Iv removed my cover and found the inner casing had been worn thru by the cable. Any ideas what might of happen (or I did wrong? Thanks for all your help. Choice
WHY DIDNT YOU SHOW THE ENTIRE CABLLE ROUTING??? The service manual doesn't even give the greatest instructions, and OF COURSE it's one of the instructions that DOESN"T HAVE A PICTURE EITHER........ WHY is it sooooo hard to find a clutch cable installation video for HD Touring bikes with FULL INSTRUCTIONS?????? Other than that 1 thing, I LOVE YOU VIDEOS!!!!!!! I just haven't been able to ride my ultra classic for going on 2 months due to an accident. But I have been spending COUNTLESS HOURS getting my baby BACK ON THE ROAD, and your videos have been a mainstay on my feed!!!
Thanks for vid! Different workflow than the factory manual (2002 Road King) but all good. Btw, HD cable is way better than the aftermarket that broke at the eyelet.
I noticed you adjusted the push rod all the way in, did you miss a step or have clutch slip issues? I always back off the push rod 1/2 to full turn off on all my bikes, ive never seen one not slip from turning it all the way in, even with the scorpion race clutch set up.
Had to come back and find this video, with the 2021 Touring models out now is the process still and cable connections still the same ? For 14in apes on a 2021 Road Glide would you use +6 or +8?
Great video. With the exception of how to adjust the clutch. He just hooked it up when he pulled the derby cover to show where the adjustment is to be made. Didn't get into the mechanics of how to properly adjust the clutch by backing off the nut, adjusting the allen bolt first, then locking it down. That is a very important step. Especially if you don't know how to do it. I adjust every oil change.
I know this video is 5 years old but I used it to replace my cable this weekend. The problem I’m having now is the clutch doesn’t fully disengage when lever is pulled. I’ve gone through adjusting cable and primary screw 20x and it’s always the same. Any thoughts as to why?
Which direction would you adjust the clutch at the primary if problems with clutch creep. I have backed out the adjuster screw 1/2 and 3/4 turns according to my service manual and still having creep issues
I got clutch cable for my 2000 Harley sportster xl1200 said was 52 3/4 inches even tho I kept measuring 55 old cable on bike but Harley n Google said otherwise got new cable the 52 3/4 it's shorter than original so we still got it to fit but had to run it above foot pedal instead under all connected but when try to put in 1st it makes crazy sound from the circle primary cover we have adjusted few times n still same issue what did we might have done wrong
+DT Harley man If you really think about, the clutch cable adjuster is ultimately going to get it closer until the lever is adjusted where you like it. I get it tighter so I have more adjustment from my cable adjuster. Just the way I have preferred to do it for years.
@@HillCountryCustomCycles So I just ordered a new cable from you guys because with my current cable if I back out the adjuster at the clutch pack 1/2 to 3/4 turn I still have so much slack that the cable adjuster runs out of threads and there is still excessive slack at the lever. By turning the adjuster all the way in, theoretically it should take up some of that slack and give me more adjustment at the cable right?? Have any of your customers reported any clutch issues from you running the adjuster all the way in and then using the cable adjuster to fine tune?? I appreciate any info you can provide.
