Gordon and I tried to capture Machu Picchu in a way that you could personally experience. We feel this is as close as you can come to visiting and exploring yourself.

A special thanks to theLarom for the HOURS of work he spent making the maps just right. I'm really greatful for his time, and I think it adds a really neat touch to the exploration.
Also, thanks to Henry for helping me get through a rendering problem I was having.
My best friend actually was blinded in an accident when she was very little, so I had her listen to this. She said it was just about like she was there, and while she can't ever take the hike herself you made it an amazing experience for her. So thanks from her, and thanks from me for doing something like this. It's amazing.
She can take the hike, just go with her and hold her hand.
That is very nice of you.❤️
Binaural travel videos need to reach mainstream!!!! It's so relaxing and just absolutely incredible!
+Kittens Yeagh! I want more!!!
Binaural 360 degree videos would probably kill me, in a good way.
Nah. Wont work.
But stereo video will. And it will be really awesome to make such gear and see it in action.
I agree on this!! Is there a small accessory to record binaural audio on any device?
In America, that historical site would be shut down for lack of guard rails and posts pounded into the rocky steps.
QuartetmanIA There are places in the Smokies (National Park in Tennessee, if you don't know) that have huge drops with no rails or anything.
+Knoledge Whale Not really Midwesterners. Basically just us Americans in general just like to get mad at others whenever they themselves do something stupid.
I swear I could hear a train horn every so often don't know if it was just me. Love this video
me too
+falcocassady thats well possible. A train runs down in the valley
falcocassady yeah...me too
falcocassady That’s how you usually get there I think. That’s how I got there. 🤷♂️
i wonder if that guy ever did check his youtube out
me too
Next step for this video, oculus rift compatibility. Happiness over 9000!
this was one of the most amazing videos i have ever seen... it took me a while after it ended to get back into like "the real world"! so awesome
9:50
guy: "HEY, HEY!"
destin: *waves
destin: *realizes thats against the rules
destin: "was that against the rules?"
Thanks for the free trip to Machu Picchu. :D
It was amazing, just as if I was really there.
The sound of wind, people talking nearby etc...so amazing..
Turn on English subtitles to see what random people say. Some talk about the history of the place and how it worked. its pretty cool
I watched this video years ago and I still think about it all the time because it really feels like a trip I got to take. Thank you for making it!
i can practically feeeeel the grass under my feet man!
this is so trippy and awesome at the same time !
thank you so much for taking me on this trip with you Destin
I love how at 5:10 he is like "Hmm....Let's go THIS way!!!"
Just saying, you're the best CAS plane there will ever be!!!
Imagine this binaural sound with oculus rift :D
i know right! the oculus pluss some turtle beaches or whatever your preference is.
try it whit skyrim there is binaural sound
I could upload a video for oculus rift support, if I get perms from the owner.
YO U READ MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's how most games work buddy. You ever play Battlefield, or Cod?
So cool! The stereo-like recording makes all the difference! Thanks for the video!
Destin, I am loving these sound videos. It realy makes you feel like you are right there. It really felt like I was there with you walking through Machu picchu.
Turn on CC and it's like you're playing an open world game with npc chatter showing up
:D
"That is not the way" "Si, it's the wrong way yes... Thank you!"
Thanks so much for doing this Dustin. It was amazing! The surround sound was fantastic, and I was just using a cheap pair of headphones! Really enjoyed it
That was really amazing! I would really like to be there back then. Such a breathtaking view! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
21:10 random guy"its him again!" You: "hello" xD life is too short to learn german xD
He's so friendly it's adorable :)
he seams like an awesome dude, a total joybringer, always happy and smiling
alkofarfar It's not hard :-)
I feel kinda sorry for you who think this is the epitome of friendliness. Most sane people are like this, granted they're not extremely introverted.
this is so great! I teach English in Korea and we were doing a unit on Machu Picchu. I had students go for a walk with you.
Thank you for bringing Machu Picchu into our little class!
I went to Peru last year and this brought back so many memories, thanks so much Destin!
I love a good "walk through", these help me to escape to interesting places while I do my inside jogs and walks. I'm in Alaska and it's been pretty cold so we've been inside A LOT, so escaping to go walking else where is so much more fun!
I agree though I dont live in alaska
Love it how Destin just goes against the grain effortlessly.
I’m glad I’m watching this amazing video on a projector with headphones instead of being there. One wrong step and you’re gone. What a beautiful karst landscape. Thank you
This is awesome! I experienced Machu Picchu in September last year, and I can't forget the beauty of the place! As well as the peace of mind it gave to be there. Thank you for letting me re-experience that!
Wow... and now just imagine this thing recorded in 3D visually as well...
27:11 - "Da is er ja wieder" :D
und er sagt "hola!" xD
Die deutschen sind einfach überall :F
*:D
Truly amazing video, from the distant sound of a train horn to some vehicle you can here in the distance. Brilliant.
I had so much fun watching this video. I lived here in 2012. It is absolutely an amazing country. Thanks.
30:16
The two women lol. Thought they got whistled at.
I have to say how much I have enjoyed this group of films. One thing however struck me. When listening in the 3D The only animal sound was from a Lama, I think I heard the buzz of one insect. I didn't however hear any birds. Is this because of the altitude or I am being stupid.
Love your videos
My kindest regards
Arwel Roberts
PS I did listen on my head set and I have better than average hearing. I was a Sonar Operator on Polaris subs for 9 years.
Destin, I just wanted to thank you for sharing this. You see... I'll never be able to do something like this. With a bad hip, degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia there's really no way I could physically handle the pain. So you doing this sort of thing is so awesome. Thank you so much❣
Hello Destin, thank you so much for showing us around in this special place. I´ll never get there (at least in THIS life ;-) and so it´s a real pleasure to wander around with you among those walls and views. Thank you!
if this was also recorded in 3d oh my god it would be like ... perfect
Oculus Rift. Nuff said.
Noioon exactly what I was thinking :D
I was going to say the same thing.
They release special kinds of grass hoppers that only eat the top of the grass
This really works, the sound is equally as important as the visualls, I find watching my old family videos incredibly moving and it is the sounds that is moving. This sound would have been great but just having a video camera was a miricle back then
you guys, are AWESOME! thank you destin for bringing this on youtube!
i want to go there so bad. The 3d audio is pretty slick tho. Nice video.
My fear of heights can be felt in this video
haha XD
I've always wanted to go to Macchu Pichuu, but th beis is as close as I'll ever get. Thanks for the trip (in stereo, no less!). I'm fascinated by some of the intricate rock interconnections, especially the sheer closeness of some of the dry-laid stones, square notches cut in some, and the interlocking offsets in others, apparently without chipping the stones.
Thank you so much for the binaural audio recording. I have a fascination with binaural audio, and the recording is actually pretty good :)
She was asking you how do you manage to take the pictures, perhaps she thought the camera was a photo camera and not a video one.
Hey destin, this feels like I'm in a 1st person Point-of-view game... :)
I am totally blind from birth and this is my first time listening to this and I loved it!!!! It is awesome!!!! God bless and take care.
This is so cool! The first time you walked past a group of people talking, I actually turned my head to the side where the people were. You should use this is every video - everyone should! This is amazing.
One of the best videos I have ever seen.
you mean heard ?
im not blind, but i love audio and this is FABULOUSSSSSSSSSSS =D
This was wonderful! I actually enjoy the little, dizzy, rushes as you climbed higher and higher.
Hey Destin,
thank you very much for this inside view of Machu Picchu. That was a great experience!
Greetings from Germany
So many nice people
The 21st of November 2012, the day my granddad died, this was the first video I watched while crying.
I feel like I just visited Machu Picchu. What a treat! Thank you!
Really awesome video man. I am visiting mach picchu in a little over a week! Really like how you spoke spanish throughout the video, felt like I am almost already there!
I am now making it my quest to go to Machu Picchu!
22:04 I couldn't help but listen on to the women's conversation in Russian :P
The best I have seen and heard so far. Great Job!
Thank you , Thank you, Thank you! I was amazed the first time I found your channel and subscribed. I am still amazed at every video you and the friends and scientists put up. Please keep up the wonderful work!
Does anyone else hear a train at 7:50 ? lol
Nope
Yeah thought I was tripping but there’s a train in the valley
the fish lense is making me sick...I feel like I have to throw up
sameeee T..T.TT
Me too. I need fresh air now
me too. wasn't able to watch all of the video
Hate fisheye lens. It's the bane of filming. Cheers GoPro. Seriously, how hard is it to sell a GoPro with a decent lens.
Same :(
eventhough i feel sick and dizzy after watching this it is really amazing! i couldnt stop watching right until the very end! Really captured this extremely well, i hope to go up there some day to see it for myself but for now, this is an amazing tour of the place!
I loove thus video, I always wanted to go to Machu Pichu and this is as close as i can ger. Thank you! You're also so generous and that is one of the many reasons that i watch your videos. If only we had more people like you on this planet (:
The 3D audio was awesome! I do have a 7.5 surround headset which i can switch on and off. With this 3D audio technology, though it was better to switch the 7.5 off and back to 2 channels. Beautiful! I would like to visit Machu Picchu one day, if I dare! Let's see how i would deal with the heights. D:
+Tails41347 Sorry but there is no 7.5 surround thats just idiotic.
That would mean you have 4 normal drivers on one side and 3 on the other side of your headphones and 3 bass drivers on one side and 2 bass drivers on the other. In headphones you always have to have even numbers unless it's simulated surround sound.
Anyway, simulated surround sucks when it's simulated over a cheap USb soundcard.
Well I'm sorry that I misspelled 7.1 into 7.5 for like a few years ago? No need to be harsh about that.
Tails41347 7.1 is still wrong. Like I said, it can only be an even number, otherwise you would have only one bass driver on one hear, so you would only hear the bass sounds with one ear (akwaard) :D
Thats why most surround headsets are basically a scam.
*Facepalm*
Pro tip: watch on oculus rift while walking on a treadmill.
True only if there was a camera taping all angles so you can physically move your head so the screen would move too... And nice tip on the treadmill but you would have to stop at some points so yea...
This is really great with the addition of the binaural micrrophones, I love it.
So we just found this channel. My 6 year old daughter is obsessed with watching you videos. Thank you so much for the great content. . We’ve been smarter every day fans for a long time.
Its so amazing how the Inca's managed to live on top of a mountain and sustain themselves.
The problem with in ear binaural mics is they sit quite far out from the ear. It lessens the impact that the pinna has on the recorded audio. The pinna shape is crucial in your localisation of sound especially vertically as the time and frequency difference between the two ears is the same if the sound is directly above, in front, below or behind you. If you use a dummy head for example the neumann binaural setup, the mics are placed back inside the ear canal and therefore the pressure differences and pinna affect the sound too making for a far more realistic experience. Would be cool if you could get hold of one for a future video. As an audio engineer I find this stuff fascinating!
Love this video and hearing my headphones vibrate to the wind from the video and seeing places like this that i wouldn never get to see through another persons eyes, just amazing, need more like these! Keep upt he great videos!
I hope that guy looked him up on UA-cam. :). I’ve watched this three times and it’s great every time.
that fisheye or whatever is going on makes me sick
Its common sense that you can't walk on the grass.
+ThatTallGuy GET OFF MY LAWN. but eff that.
ThatTallGuy It depends on when you go. Sometimes there are llamas hanging out where he crossed.
Thank you so much for this video, The quality is superb and loved the microphone effects through my headphones, It has brought me closer to Machu Picchu than I think I'll ever get. great work!
This is so cool. I visited Macchu Piccu this past summer, and watching this is like experiencing it all over again!
I like when he has to climb that steep stairway up and he suddenly stops and pokes a tiny plant and goes back to his objective. It was so random and I giggled a bit from it :)
this made me motion sick >.< couldn't finish it
+Hannah Kim me too! ugh. after a few minutes i noticed that i was getting very hot. soon i had to stop watching and go lay down. no nausea, but the dizziness persisted for *hours*. :(
+Jason Bechtel but I guess that proves its very realistic? lol
+Hannah Kim Same here WOW
+Jason Bechtel I did too , man it was weird , I have gone back 3 times and only made it about half way so far , but its very cool though, Thanks I thought it was only me
+Hannah Kim It's like a schroom trip
This honestly makes me want to cry. I've wanted to go to Machu Pichu since I learned about it in elementary school and I absolutely love that you made this.
Oh man that was amazing! Please do more binaural stuff! It feels as if you are actually there!
Germans at 27:10 :P they say "da ist er ja wieder", means "here he's again" ^^
"Hola!"
haha, I wonder who the guy at 11:24 was calling "troglodita". Hope it wasn't to you Destin.
Really love this video. I hope you can squeeze in some future globe-trotting walks at sometime. I'd gladly watch a series of these. Wonderful
I must say, with a good sound like that and the conversion 2D to 3D from my TV it makes a really interesting walk around the place! Exceptional quality! Thanks I relly liked it!
i wanna see someone wingsuit with this technology
The only thing you would hear is wind on the microphone.
They are mics with fur around them... you know? So that the wind is... muted
It's disrespectful to walk on the grass at machu pichhu
I just experienced it with my Sony HMZ-T2 and it was awesome. Almost like being there. Do more like this one, Destin!
I wish I could of had joined you on this expedition as a translator lol. Great job with the videos you are my favorite youtuber. Your videos are very interesting and contain more value then some other things I've seen -.- but everyone has their own opinions. Anyways great content and keep up the good work Dennis!
Destin not Dennis autocorrect problems
XD raro ver a otro latinoamericano viendo estos videos
+MsRAZGRIZ1 Inusual, digamos. :V
That fisheye effect though! It's a bit obnoxius.
+Alexander Vynogradov Nah bro. Lol. It allows a wider range of what is visible.
how can you go the wrong way??
That was fantastic. It's just re-enforced my desire to go to Peru myself.
Fingers crossed I can find more of these. Instant subscriber. Excellent.
Thank you for uploading this video! I went to Machu Picchu when I was 6 and haven't been back since. Great video! And sound!
You can't go on the grass!!!!!!
Kittens Why?
Sective Walking on grass kills it over time.
+Peridot The grass there is so green from people not walking on it and killing it.
+Peridot We walked on whatever the eff we wanted to. And whatever the eff died underneath our feet.
Joey No, not me.. They were.
Se pasea como en su casa, sin embargo me imagino debería estar prohibido pisar el gras
I listen to this while I study. I love this channel!
I had to pause at 9:18 for a brief moment to type. The audio... It sounds, just so amazing. My ears feel as though I'm actually there, so it's tricking my senses and giving me the feeling of walking, say 5-10% to the feeling of actual walking, but the sounds, with extra sensitivity is giving a very strange feeling of being there. Again, this is amazing. Makes me want to go and hike a trail! Thank you
Just like minecraft...
Uh no, shuttup
Itz Assamix Who says? one with a minecraft picture? nice...
Joaco Remis i don't go crazy.
Doesn't seem like so
Destin man, i really appreciate this video, it was very fascinating to watch. Your spanish isn't as bad as you say it is! Thanks for the upload!
Destin. This is FANTASTIC!
