    Ibanez
    012" @7th fret
    6/64" (.094") #4 string @14th fret
    5/64" (.078) #1 string @14th fret
This is what your starting point should be.

Too long ago to remember, sorry - but I would expect it to be the modern Chinese 4mm standard

2 mm last fret action on a Bass is crazy low. Even 2 mm 17th fret action is very low. I think it will be pretty unplayable with such low action.

It's fairly standard for high-end basses. It works just fine, unless you have a hammer for a right hand and play with a pick.

Bass players I know would disagree :-)

The customer was very happy with the 2.5mm I gave him....I always aim for a very low 'start point' (as a target for the fret levelling / adjustments) and give customers an option to adjust upward if they prefer.

That's a lot of time spent for a $75 bass guitar. You are very patient.

What are those fret leveling tools called and where can I get some?

It's a truss rod with self-adhesive sandpaper on it. Easy to make, takes a little longer to get the hang of it. My ebook shows how in great detail -

      - if you're interested :-)
