All reality TV shows are fake. I used to work at a body shop that restored cars for the Wheeler Dealer car show. During filming, the guy from the show would start doing the work then they would cut the filming and my helper would actually do the work. When he was done, the guy from the show (Mike) would go back out and start doing the work, and they would start filming again, although the work was already finished. That way it looked like he did all the work. Same with the painting.

They said only the negotiations are real during the show, but they know what's coming in to know if it's worth making an episode for. They even said somewhere that the producers reach out to people with intresting ebay listings for people to learn about the item. Like when pokemon go was popular, they hit up that charizard guy through an ebay listing. They don't seem to hide it. And I agree, I still like watching it despite that though.

I went to the Wahlburgers in Las Vegas a few years back, but couldn’t get in due to security at both doors. Even the walk up bar was being guarded but you could still clearly see inside. I was confused because there were customers in there eating. Soon found out they were filming an episode of The Wahlbugers. Donny and Jenny were there, when they entered the building the director was trying to hype up the crowd to make it seem like there was a ton of people there cheering for them. In fact most people were just standing around confused as to what was going on. Donny and Jenny started serving drinks to the “customers” who I realized were all wearing “New Kids on the Block” tshirts. Then Boys 2 Men showed up and after about 20-30 mins, they all left. When I actually saw the episode later, they made it seem like they just popped in unannounced and hung out with the customers for a long time, debuting Jenny’s new brand of Vodka. It was kinda cool to see but it did open my eyes to the “reality” of reality tv.

Rick being a know-it-all was the first big clue. No one knows all that, especially dates.

The people standing around in the store are legit.
I lived there and when they were about to film an episode they would ask the people in the store if they wanted to be in the background, then make them sign consent forms and kick everyone else out.
The guys would only show up to film the episode and then leave.

I remember years and years ago chum lee at least worked there. It was a thing to call and if you hear “chum lee gold and silver” you’d ask if they had a game called battle roads and he’d get pissed off

That must have been MANY years ago. I was there in 2016, and the pawn shop was just a tourist gift shop. There was no filming at that location!

The show was somewhat based on reality in its early days but that is long gone. Once Corey and Chum started speaking like Rick when talking about an obscure item I realized they just didn't care to hide it anymore. Most people tune in these days just to see really cool artifacts and the history behind them.

I went to Vegas and visited the shop. They had just finished filming and Chumley came out from the back and met with the crowd. He posed for a picture with my wife. The others did not come out.

I always knew that it was staged, but the items were always real. Learning about the history of the items was the main reason I watched the show.
