There is no growth. These fans were football fans, before they supported different foreign teams. Now we have clubs in our state to support. Judging india by looking into Kerala & judging Kerala by looking at India is not correct. Vast majority of Indian's don't even know there is a football league is played in this country.

their stadium capacity is around 66-70k and even during covid when their stadium capacity was reduced to like 50% the stadium was filled with 30-35k people

They had to add seats for hosting the Fifa U17 WC (it was won by an England team featuring Foden and Sancho) to follow the Fifa regulations. Before that everyone just sat on the steps so lot more people could sit but it could get crowded. Then they put seats on top of em bringing the capacity down to 35k-40k

Football isn't popular in Kerala because of ISL or the Kerala Blasters. There have always been die-hard fans of the game way before the ISL. Football fans in Kerala had been divided into supporters of Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, Messi, Neymer or of Brazil, Argentina, Portugal etc. ISL united all these fans and the Kerala Blasters became a team all of them could celebrate.
Today was comparatively a low turnout, working day and 8pm kick off but still more fans than i expected.. Congrats kerala

As an East Bengal FC fan or primarily a Kolkata football fan in general, I respect the atmosphere of Kerala Blasters fans. Cheers and greetings. I know in previous decades, many Malayalis were fans of East Bengal or Mohun Bagan and used to support our football passionately. And in peak Bengal football era, there were multiple derbies in a single city of Kolkata with of course, the big 2 and with the addition of Mohameddan FC, George Telegraph FC, etc, just like what happens in London today in EPL. And these clubs represented different groups and their reasons for support as well.
One thing I would say however, that this Kerala atmosphere is in 33k capacity stadium though it is reduced to this due to regulations. And maybe (big maybe) Kolkata can replicate or surpass it if the Kolkata clubs also played in a small capacity stadium and especially if there was a single club in the city or state which had a single fanbase. I'm not complaining for both the reasons though. Those are sort of good problems to have. 😅 This brings me to the point that you, Thogden, should come and visit the Kolkata ISL derby (East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan). At its peak capacity, Salt Lake stadium, the stadium which hosts both the clubs currently, was the 2nd largest in the world with 120,000 to 130,000 and it was jam packed during derbies. Now, its capacity is reduced after some renovation. Messi heavily praised the atmosphere and I was one of the 75000 who attended his match vs Venezuela. It still would be in top 20 and the derbies are still lit. Other matches are also alright but not that much.

i used to watch isl till 2018 and support my local club delhi dynamos but they dissolved that team and made odisha fc and since then i have stopped watching isl, i need to wait for delhi fc to reach isl lol
