This is one of the most impactful videos about language acquisition I have ever watched. Every aspect of it is important because learning a language involves all of these facts. I speak Portuguese, Spanish, English, and some German. I loved how he spoke German using gestures and it all made sense, at least to me. I loved the video and how Stephen Krashen talks about language acquisition and conscious learning.

Hi guys! Thanks for raising the last question. I had been thinking for a while how the Chinese language could fit into Dr. Krashen's theory of language acquision. The answer was very helpful.

This is so great! I love Professor Krashen! I might even say I have a crush on him 😄 Totally agree with him about the power of free voluntary reading, I've done it my whole life in order to improve my English. But of course also because I enjoy reading immensely.

Hi Daniel, there's a ton of research out there. Which area do you specifically want to look at?

Advice I wish I had two weeks ago.
When you're curious about an academic field, listen to people who love it. Prof Krashen spent about half of this interview talking about the joy of learning and teaching language.
Instead I made the mistake of asking burnt-out capital-L Linguistics grad students where I could find a school that combines foreign language study with at least an introduction to linguistics. I was told that linguists study capital-L Language and personally learning languages is irrelevant.
    L O Wut?

Yes. Speakers of English might understand that German lesson. What about Portuguese speakers though?

You are right, this is because German language is not derived from Latin like Portuguese (and all romance languages)!

You say that "people don't care" if your language is correct or not : this is an anglophone's view. I can assure you that many French people do care, which makes me crazy : even the Baker would correct your French in a boulangerie :-) The consequence is that many foreigners don't dare to speak with us in France.
