    No way in Hell do you fill in a hole like that! Way too many times the owners said no when I came back or even dug the hole while we were gone! That puce bottle looks like Stoddard glass!

      Ah know it !! No choice, as it was getting dark and hole was concrete-hard. We would’ve broken stuff for sure if we had stayed. And barney Bob had to go get stitches !!

      This particular hole was rock hard dry clay so if you add digging in the lame dark to the mix, your chances of breaking something in the layer go waaay up !

    Latest finding - selenium changed for manganese in WW I (manganese glows lime green, while selenium glows pink). Most people believe red and scarlet glass is gold glass, but new findings is that a tiny amount of selenium makes clear glass, while greater proportions makes pink, selenium ruby, dark red amber (iron, coal and selenium) and dark red black (iron and selenium). These would appear to be seleniums.

      Manganese dioxide (used to clear glass) came from Germany so during ww1 they had to switch to Selenium. The Manganese reacts with UV rays from the sun turning it from clear-purple. Selenium turns a light yellow colour

    Those laundry rollers were called a "Mangle". I found a figurine of a black man holding a watermelon. He is made of China and broke off something. The site dates are 1879-1915. Just back from a bottle hunt, test driving a new probe. Found a few frags here & there, but there's gotta be a dump nearby. At 'Iwilei '09-'10 I did a bonehead move, and removed my Left pointer fingerprint. Dug a small cave and a round Whittemore's was on the roof of the cave. It looked loose, and I put my finger in. Instead it separated and sheared some skin off. I carry a first aid pouch, and treated it, and kept on, re-dressing it every other day. It's healed, and has a scar patch w/ no fingerprint. That layer is begging to be attacked with a carving fork, one of my top digging tools. I had a good prewar ones, now I have a "USA 1971" one, Army mess hall? Great tools when you have a busy face.

    • @BottleNed
      @BottleNed Рік тому

      Valid question ! That spice was locked in with tight clay and broken plates and would’ve taken time and sunlight to extract without damaging it so better to come back with full daylight. But if it were a bitters or something I definitely would’ve spent the extra time trying to get it out !!
