just bought an SXV, a little nervous about adjusting the valves. Thanks for publishing this!
This is what many people have been waiting for. Thank you, thank you so much!
I had absolutely no idea that you were a young woman until the end. Great tutorial, made it look like childs play. :)
Sold it to get a 24ft toy hauler for a sweet deal. My fiancee and I decided to sell the motards since we didn't really ride them much where we live. No great roads around here and motards suck on the highway. They are not very reliable, but if you have a lot of money or know how to fix yourself they are a badass bike!
Thanks for a great upload! Even greater to see girls doing mechanic!
awesome video thank you for your time and effort.
it made life easier when I had to do mine!!
Joe Bacon Great! That was my goal when making this vid.
chixwithtrix you succeed and couldn't have done any better thank you 😉
i need to find a workshop manual to find out the manufacturers torque specs but all together and running now.
Hi, Nice video :)
I'm also thinking about buying a SXV (now I have a CRF), but I'm hesitant due to huge list of common problems of the model ...
That thing does not run, fly ;)
I'm trying to restrain myself:)
Congratulations, I also really like anything that has an engine and I am also mechanic of cars and motorcycles in my spare time.
It is not common to see a women with these talents:)
Keep going!
It's like the Honda unicam valve train but you have to do it twice.
@LPPT246 if you own a SXV it's good to have a set of mechanical skills. They are amazing bikes, but don't let anyone tell you they will be trouble free. Some people never have issues and others never stop having issues...on average the bike will take care of you if you take care of it though. If you have the cash then the SXV is a fantastic bike. You won't have to shim the SXV's valves as often as the CRFs though which is a plus. I used to have a 2003 CRF450, valve seat eating monster!
Very well done, thank you! :-)
que genia como puede saber tanto esa chica !!! creo que me encantooooooooo!!!!!!!
Yep!
Thanks!
Be sure to tap it near where it goes on the shaft so you don't bind it. Try tapping it in a circle evenly to have a better chance at popping it off. It's difficult to tell if you are using enough force/heat or too much when I'm not there. My best suggestion would be to keep trying, it does take a while.
For a bucket over shim engine it is actually quite easy to understand and do the job. Better than my 2003 Honda CRF 450 IMO. Can't beat tappet style adjustments for ease and quickness though!
awesome, best.
@tailgate30 glad I could help! I'm guessing yours had the red case sealant?
Have to use the right type, HD nitrile that fit properly. I've gotten to where I hate working without them.
very good video very nice skils lady!!!
Thanks, good to know :)
Girl mechanic! Wowww!
Great video, how long did this adjustment take you?
Is this a job that can be done strictly after removing the engine from the frame? Or is it just easier to do it that way? Also how often would it need to be done? I am looking at an SXV 450 with new top end (valves and seats etc) already done to it. When will I need to check clearances again?
What other parts you suggest to check / possibly even change when doing valve adjustment?
Have u also made any tunes
like headwork and flattened out carter?
i'm having trouble removing the timing gear, i heated it up with the torch and tapped it quite hard with a brass pin, any advice? :)
i wonder if it´s possible make the revision pistons, conrod, crankshaft bearing for a newbie with the manual service or not
it is hot video,hehe.... you do a good job :)
Hi, i have a few questions regarding my 450. If you have the time you obviously have the knowledge. I replaced pistons etc but have a valve problem I think. Please reply. Kind regards. Gary
omg...girl mehanic ??... wtf i dont even know how to do that...good job i would like to meet you in the future 😉😉
Nice to se a girl mechanic 😊
would be possible change piston ans rods with the workshop manual for a newbie?
btw (sorry for the private question) why do you sell the sxv? I am about to buy one and....is because of its maintenance or unreliability? thanks
She is like the Angelina Jolly of the Aprilias! Gone in sixty seconds movie
can you PLEASE make one video of the top end rebuild PLEASE???
Nice job lady! I have a question: how did you tighten the water pump rotor?
George Badass With the crank locked using a few taps with a block of wood and hammer.
Thank you!
Very Helpful, but I can't see how you can work in gloves. Give 10 minutes when I try and work in them and they are gone
I love you jajajaja
Unfortunately I never had a need to rebuild the top end on my bike. Now I don't own my SXV anymore.
Hey there do you have any idea where to get the crank pin service tool any part numbers or do you want to sell yours I read you don't have the bike anymore
C Hawk Fly Try an Aprilia dealer, the tools and bike are long gone for me. Thanks!
waaw a chick that can work on your sxv. what more does a guy want !
Hi, great video! Do you have the techinical service manual too? thanx!
No I don't anymore, I think you can download it on the Aprilia forums somewhere though
chixwithtrix ok thank you!
+muaythai4lifelife slorider.com/Aprilia/manuals/ServiceIntervals.pdf
No, all of this video is played back in real-time with cuts.
why would you want to just replace the rod and not the whole crank assembly? Might as well while you are in there.
So how often need this to be done?
I dont know if you have an answer meanwhile. But ca. all 10 to 15000 km.
If you have never opened up an engine before, no, have someone who knows what they are doing work on it. The Aprilia manuals are not great. If you know your way around an engine then it wouldn't be too bad.
About a day for the whole thing
Are the cam caps cased to the head ?!
why take out the camshaft? I don't know why the service manuals say to do this on many bikes.
Taking out the cams is the only way to get to the shims under the buckets.
Take the measurements, calculate what shims you need, take the cams out, put in new shims, install cams, remeasure to make sure the new shims are correct and change if necessary.
+chixwithtrix on my bike I just pull the rocker arm bolts out and then bam you are at the shims. no need to take the cam and tensioner out. are two of you're valves directly underneath the camshaft or something?
+Richard Armstrong removing just the rocker arm works for the exhaust side shims, but you have to take out the cam to get under the buckets for the intake shims. Have you watched the video?
Yeah
+chixwithtrix so it doesn't have rocker arms for the intake valves? I thought if an engine had rocker arms it would have one for intake and one for exhaust. so you're bike has something called a cam bucket for the intake valves? I learn something new everyday. lol
wait what? a chick? you got my respect
cam someody tell me why those aprilias needs so much of attention? please...i want one but i dont know nothing about them
Catalina is ZE SHIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :DDDDDDDD
No, I actually don't own the bike anymore
Remove the engine for a valve adjustment? ;is ilogic, how much it cost in a official service? my god.
Otherwise good work ,you ve skills partner, keep up the good work.
You can do it in the chassis, but that's an even BIGGER headache. Who knows gow much for adjustment at a dealer, likely thousands. Sold the bike yeaaaars ago.
Where do i have to sign to marry this awesome Girl? *_*
sebastian uhl Long ago taken 👍
Female?
will she mary me?she can do whatever she wants with my rsv4!!
learn to do it right ????? May be
i want to marry you :D
I want to date her so she can do my bike!
This video reminds me way I wouldn't buy sxv ,Too much maintenance ,KTM 690 SMC much better option .
if you want the power, you gotta go with the maintenance :)
Hmm no. Its just oil and filter change. my valves are ok and i have 14000 km now.

Moin, hast du sie immernoch?
irgendwelche probleme?
Of you can't do shim math or use a Mic you have no business in a motor
