I do not think there is possibility of pleasing anybody in that particular situation. It's perfectly reasonable for these countries to be west and nato-oriented, having Russia as their neighbour, because, as you have probably noticed, Russia is not particularly friendly neighbour. And if you are not from these countries (and I assume that you are not) you will never fully understand their position.

Poland does not learn from its own crappy history. In March 1939 UK and France gave Poland a blank check promising to declare war (on Germany) in the case of a German - Polish war regardless of the circumstances. After that the Poles refused to talk to the the (Nazi) German government about the status of Danzig (a free city) formally part of Prussia with a 95% German population. When Germany attacked the French and the British did declare war, but then did nothing to help Poland while its army was destroyed and cities bombed. Will the US risk nuclear weapons falling on its territory to help Poland if it is attacked? One other thing, how did the Americans react when the Russians placed nuclear weapons in Cuba so close to US territory?
And don’t forget about the ones in Belarus. If America falls do they not understand Russia won’t be as kind to them.
