I transitioned from CD to vinyl about 12 years ago. A couple years before the huge resurgence. I think the issue is the industry is catering more to the sport of collecting over people that actually want to listen to music. I'm in groups where people brag about acquiring records of mediocre albums that cost them $200+ just because the artist only pressed 500 copies. I just want the album in my collection, I don't give a shit about an OBI strip or splatter. I think it's great that everything get's reissued nowadays, heck I've even replaced OGS with a reissue for financial reasons, but stop with the bullshit.
Collector's editions of LPs can be a lot of fun as long as they're under $50. The late 70's & 80's were great for oddball releases that didn't need a special day (especially UK bands and labels), and they're now some of the favorite fun items in my record collection.
@@alm5693 I can relate with this. As I said above, I'm generally disinterested in specialty formats, I'm interested in the music. I got the "Detroit Edition" of The Stooges For the a;bum itself and for the extra takes/demos. I got Lou Reed's 3-sided press of Set The Twilight Reeling because it happens to be my all-time favorite late-period Lou Reed album. That it happens to have a neat-looking fourth side is, well, neat but of much less interest than the music on the album. I'm a really big Voidoids fan and never had Blank Generation on vinyl before I found the copy I've got which happened to come out one year for record store day. I was just as happy when I found a copy of Destiny Street Remixed (which has no association with RSD, as far as I know). I'm sure you can relate with the idea that there are always bands and albums that I like, and I'm always looking for that music to add to my collection.
Collectors are a different breed, and I love that they will carry all that heavy vinyl to record shows on the slim chance it might help their collection, because I sure wouldn't. Last show I went to , I talked to a guy who only collected children's albums, because of the colorful outside, not the music. Another guy had just paid $1500 dollars for a 45 single and was super happy. Said he only knew of one other such record to be in existence , but it was cracked, so had diminished value. Then he added, in a conspiratorial tone, that rumor says it doesn't even play. It was some kind of Do Wop fifties record.
RSD has been ruined by flippers who get in line early, then grab anything worth getting the moment the stores open.
I combat that by just getting in line earlier.
Flippers suck...they ruin everything

Live albums are the best! The intricacies and variations that can take place between two shows are incredible. Also, the list stated The Cure is a picture disc. I'm hyped for this RSD!
I love you so much!!!!
Awwwwww. Same!
I took a chance and bought The Cure “Wish” RSD picture disk. It actually sounds very good.
Players understand albums more than others. ..I love live albums and I think it's hysterical that some people don't,that's MY take.
Black, red, clear, picture etc.... Etc.... ALL IN YOUR HEAD! dye People!!! No matter if it is black or purple, it doesn't make a difference in sound!!!! All in your mind!!! Now, the way something is mastered is another story, and it is easy to blame on the "dyed vinyl" , when the blame should be on the studio!!!
There is absolutely a difference in sound from black vinyl to colored vinyl.
@@thevinylattack correct. The dye used. Not the material.
Howdy from Texas just experience my first Record day. Phew the lines for vinyl. A few at a time was only allow in the store Jose's only can buy one vinyl of the same artist. I am a collector of Dolly Parton since 70. Yes got my special album. After a 6 hours wait. But I also browsed through the store as well. My husband is A Laura Branigan Freak! He loves her but there never any special vinyls on her. But he got lucky found 8 dance 12 inches of her with pics sleeves . For $ 2 -$3 most Were mint DJs. So we both had a good day.
I'm happy to hear that it all worked out for you both.
For sure I’m picking up Chet, and The Magnetic Fields “I” first vinyl pressing.
Thanks again for the great video. I’ll be waiting in line early just to ensure the Van Halen live record. I had that in CD when it came out but it got lost in the shuffle through my countless moves over the years so I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to grab this on vinyl.
I think I'm going to have to go for the VH as well.
You're right! Live, Pic disks? I'm sure of maybe 1.
My RSD UK list choices:
Duran Duran: Carnival Rio! - 3000 presses - £40.99
Tears For Fears: Saturnine Martial & Lunatic - 2000 presses - £33.99
Goblin: Rarities (Film Versions and Alternates) - ? presses - £42.99
Al Wilson: Weighing In - 1500 presses - £24.99
Mr Benn: The Music - 1500 presses - £28.99
Record store day is not for normal consumers, because it is not especially fun. It is for lifestyle vinyl consumers who desire to get in line before the store opens and feel buying records is very important to their happiness. I am solidly pro happiness, but for someone not aware of the scene, if you decide to check it out and get there when you feel like it, everything will be picked over and you will be looking at the bottom of the barrel stuff that even the enthusiastic early shoppers, caught up in contest and victory, left behind.
This event was originally designed as a special sale to get people back shopping when record stores were failing , and special enticement recordings were offered. Times were tough and this event was a sincere attempt to lure shoppers and provide a life line to the loyal retailers. As the old song says , " time changes everything"
I'm guessing that Husker Du's Longhorn album is from when they were first starting out or else a tribute to Jay's Longhorn Saloon in Minneapolis - arguably Minneapolis' first notable punk music club and the first place where local bands got gigs that weren't at a houseparty or a rented room. They also booked early tours by Elvis Costello and The B52s. It may have been the first place that "I Don't Like Mondays" was performed. The band hadn't worked out a full arrangement yet so Bob Geldoff and Johnny "Fingers" performed it as a duo for a Boomtown Rats encore.
Personal note: I was just parking my car to go to Jay's Longhorn when I heard on the radio that John Lennon had just been shot dead.
I work at a record store (in Ann Arbor) so I'm all in on RSD like it or not. I feel like this year's list is pretty strong, but live albums are pretty much what I want most from RSD, so I guess that's the difference. Last year was my favorite RSD ever, and I think this year is nearly as strong.
I haven't been to a record store in A2 in quite a while. I'm due for a visit.
Personally I have been saying that there isn't enough live music on vinyl so for me this is good news and a great move imo. Thanks for the video
I'm glad to hear it worked out for you.
I agree 100%. Actually I feel most people Actually like live LPs. I think this review does not represent the majority of record collectors
@@dmgmail7021 It's not supposed to represent anyone but me. You're also in the minority when it comes to comments about liking live albums, so that's a metric I guess.
Fun fsct: other than the re-press of Nirvana's Hormoaning which came out for RSD a couple of years ago, there hasn't been a single solitary release that I wanted that I wasn't able to get AFTER the big day. Blank Generation by Richard Hell and the Voidoids? I was elated to find it a couple of years after the fact (in part because I didn't know it was reissued as a 2LP on RSD). The 2LP reissue of The Stooges' first album? Found that well after the fact too. Basically, other than that Nirvana EP, I'm happy to read about it when it's scheduled and then hunt for some after the fact.
They do the live albums because they aren’t essential. If they put out an essential record in a limited quantity, people would be pissed.
agreed, it's a business for cash, not a game show where part of the fun is contesting for a prize, although I think that is how the sales event is promoted and structured to feed the golden goose.
I don't need another excuse to go to the record store I just love going! So yeah I will go and stand in line like you there are half a dozen titles I might want so why not?
Fair enough.
Im actually happy this RSD has decided to focus on live releases. I feel it's kinda overdue tbh.
"Right here, right now" I'd love to get , and "Mr Big"! I'm nervous about the "pressing quality" though!
Just getting into vinyl in the last couple months and I'm all in. This is my first RSD experience and I was really excited to learn more about this exclusive day and be part of the community, but I was really let down and deflated after going through the list. Not a SINGLE record jumped out at me. Granted I don't know even half the artists on the list, but I know I don't like live albums and not into spending gobs of $ to experiment with music I know nothing about. Perhaps next year...?
You might have better luck with RSD this Black Friday.
ya dude trust me this list is not so great, if your new I'd recommend looking for some fun used records to build up the collection, some of the stuff they repress has a retail price of $30 and you can find a used original copy for like $2-10 regularly, obviously there are things repressed that are really cool... It can be a fun day to hit up your local shop, just to meet other collectors, If you have not experienced one before I would say you should for sure check it out just go mid day, no need to wait in line.
One huge misstep for me is that they have an album from John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo but nothing from George Harrison. If you are going to have three former Beatles solo albums why not all of them?
Another that I just discovered is that in the UK they have a Thin Lizzy offering and a David Bowie album... both artists I would stand in line for... but those are not being made available in the US. I could understand if it were Cliff Richard and Anthony Newley who were both big in the UK but not so much in the states but Bowie and Thin Lizzy each have mass appeal in the US too.
Yes… “Macho Man” Randy Savage and I am psyched for it.
I hope that you're able to get a copy.
The Cure release is a picture disc as noted in the description for it.
Not on the list I downloaded just the other day.
@@thevinylattack looks like the recordstoreday website has it listed as a picture disc 🥲😭
Mike at The In Groove reports that it’s not a picture disc this time around.
@@thevinylattack On the web version of the list you can click on each release to get a picture, description and tracklist (not all releases have all of these). The last few sentences for the description for this is "2LP Picture Disc. Unavailable on vinyl since its original release in 1993. This will be the first time it’s been on picture disc. The release was overseen by Robert Smith."
The hilarity of taken this sort of approach of calling out the quality of some of the bands and then praising "Mr Big" .... I'm still crying.
The musicians in Mr. Big can outplay just about every person you can think of.
The Husker Du Longhorn Tonight is kind of a historically significant show. The Jay's Longhorn bar was one of the seminal Twin Cities bars and this show from 1979 is supposed to be Husker Du's first ever show and the one that minted them as the notorious hardcore band they would become. As a former Minneapolitan, this is a release that is pretty interesting to me. As long as they did a good job cleaning up the tapes. There have been some recordings floating around from this show that are like 50th generation cassette dubs. LOL.
While very interesting (and I appreciate the info) I think I'll take a pass on that one.
Right on! This one is on my list as well.
I can't imagine how an early Husker Du show, recorded on mid-grade equipment, could sound like anything other than that.
I'm out in standing in line anymore. I did it last year, just ended up buying a couple non record store day albums in the store. There is one record I want this year, and I'm just gonna buy it flipped for convenience.
I'm sorry to hear that.
Brownout Presents: Brown Sabbath Vol.1
That seems to be getting a lot of traction.
I don't know if its on the US list, but in the UK we have Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous from the Hammersmith Odeon, London, 15th November 1976. I bought the 8 CD super deluxe box when it was released last month. And every show is fantastic. But I was really disappointed that it wasn't released on vinyl. I would give my middle nut for that if it appeared. So this is some consolation. But lets talk about the elephant in the RSD room - PRICES! Some of the prices being touted this year are effing crazy. £480 for a John Lennon 9x10" vinyl set. 4 tracks to a disc. No! The Sweet. Now they were a fantastic band. And I've bought their RSD rarities LP's that've come out the last couple of RSD's. But this year its a 3-track 12" single. For almost £30. Again, NO! The Pogues double B-Sides album. £58. WHAT??? A couple of Bob Marley 7" singles. One is £15.99. The other is £30! Twice the price. And probably the most overpriced of all - The Police - Every Breath You Take 2x7" singles for £28. Even the Thin Lizzy double is £40. But I loved them, and they were at the top of their game on this record. So I'll definitely be getting that. There are a couple of releases that look good value for money. Like the Bowie Deram Label 7" singles box for £30, and the British Ska revival band The Selecter double live, for £27. But it seems the going rate now for a single disc LP is between £30 and £40. Thats far too much. Incidenally, The Cure - Show is definitely a pic disc. It is definitely the best looking one they've released to date. But Its still a pic disc. So, NAH!
Definitely I'll be there. The must have purchases for me are, Motorhead Live Tapes Vol.4, Pearl Jam Give Way, Thin Lizzy Live & Dangerous Hammersmith 14/11/1976 & Death Fate The Best Of Death. I know, three live albums and a compilation is not very exciting for some people but I am happy. The Pearl Jam on I'm especially happy about.
Would love to grab Brownout. Amazing band, sure you know them but if not give it a listen
I'm not familiar, but I'll check it out.
I agree on the live stuff, perplexing. I am stoked for the Femmes 40th anniversary (Nevermind...thanks for pointing out it's a picture disc) and Raphael Saddiq. I also saw that Enslaved release.
I agree with you.
If the performances were that great then we would have seen them years ago.
12 Bar Blues is a great, unique album, and I'd like to have it. But, not going to bust down the door for it.
Thankfully, all you need to do is stand in line ;-)
What's wrong with the live album? As long as it's natural and not been played around with afterwards, makes you feel like you're at the concert
I've never felt that way about a live album.
@@thevinylattack well have a listen to Wishbone Ash live at the BBC that's a good recording and some good Glastonbury recordings as well
Lynyrd Skynyrd, ‘One More from the Road’ .. one of the best albums ever produced
Nobody is going to keep me away from RSD. Go Grantski records. Got 17 titles I'm looking for. Have fun and don't listen to the grumpy old men.
17? I feel bad for your bank account.
No love for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong? I wish it was an older show, but I will still try to scoop this on RSD.
Sounds like you need to listen to a King Gizzard live album to rekindle your love for live albums.
Not a fan.
Another thing about the Muddy Waters is he’s joined by Freddie King and Lightning Hopkins at that show so I think it’s worth it. Van Halen is a must! So nice to finally have an official release plus 3 additional tracks! Love me some Van Hagar!!
I'll be taking a good long look.
agree with your take on the ramones... while I am not big on RSD anymore, I mean does anyone else here remember how not a big deal the first or second RSD were, I remember going to my local record store a few days before it, as I stopped by several times a week, and they were like hey independent record stores are doing this thing and we are going to have some limited stuff.... it was nearly all pressings from independent labels, I bought a bunch of sub pop, epitaph, and touch and go 7" records, I mean it leaned heavy on the 7" stuff and that was primarily what I collected back then, and I feel like it was geared towards this kind of collector, at some point in time it switched to the major labels, and of course the larger stores like amoeba probably get the lions share of some of these releases. Also not sure if there anyone else has noticed but I did work at a record store from 2012-2020, and I still sell records, there are a lot of smaller secondary distributors that will have some of these releases like a year down the line that will be "limited" presses of say 1,000 and the prices will be cheap, and they have lots in stock for a while, I believe that there are many records that the RSD people say are limited to a certain amount that are pressed waaaay more, and yes these have the same hype sticker and are the same color variant, not sure what this is all about but it is a bit shady.
I wasn't around for the first few years of it (or it wasn't on my radar more accurately), but it has certainly become a mainstream event the way all popular things seem to do these days.
That Verve Pipe album has my interest. I've got it on CD from my University days.
Van Hagar!! That was my first arena show and from the sounds of it, in your neck of the woods. As a Windsor boy we drove to The Palace and it was an awesome show! Still wish that I had (and still fit into) that tie-died Halen t-shirt.
The Palace was a great place to see a show. It's a shame they shut it down before it's time was really up.
Thanks Chris!🙏🏻We were surprised too that Rhino did that. We were crushed when we found out The Cure released the live album as a picture disc. 🎧
Why? Their last 50 or so RSD releases have all been picture discs. Supposedly they sound pretty good for picture discs, but it would be nice to have an option of picture disc / straight up pressing instead of ONLY picture discs every time.
I agree - live music is meant for being there... or listening to AND watching on blu-ray, dvd, UA-cam, etc.... not stopping to flip over 4 LPs
I would agree on jazz, where the interplay with audience response very much shaped the music. But with all recordings today where people might not even be on the same continent, much less playing in the same room at the same time, things are different. People at a concert want to hear the record played live, with no or little artistic spur of the moment variations. I was at a club and a player put out a long and highly artistic solo turn, so I gave him a few claps in recognition of the fine effort. I was shushed by a near by woman, who corrected me by saying the song isn't over yet, like it was a symphony performance.
I'm with you on Art Blakey. He may not have invented hard bop jazz, but he perfected it.
One of the all-time best.
these are the type of albums that used to be classed as "bootleg", ive noticed slowly over the years these have been creeping more into record fairs and even established record stores...thay were classed as unofficial years ago...
The Joe Strummer Streetcore release and the Chet Baker in mono is enough for me!
Upon my initial look at the list I found about 4 must haves. By my third pass my list was up to 10. Now I need to figure out how much I want to spend and whittle the list down. Live Yes, Brownout, and Chet Baker for sure.
Funny how that happens.
Interested in Van Halen Live as well. Bought the CD when it was first released back in the day. As you said, Chris, great live album..
It really is.
Good video. I was just looking at the list myself. I think there’s 4 I’ll be getting. Mr.Big definitely I have an early copy. Being from Buffalo I’ve known Billy Sheehan from Mr.Big for years. I think ELP Brain Salad Surgery, can’t remember the other 2 off hand. As far as live albums for me depends on the band. Past RSD picked up live UFO & live Cheap Trick because these 2 band’s continually put out strong live albums.
The prices are INSANE!
That's what I hear.
I’ll be standing in line for Scott Weiland - 12 Bar Blues.
I may try to take that one home as well.
My biggest problem with RSD is that the closest store that sells the stuff is 45 miles away. I'm not making that drive only to not be able to get what I want.
That's always the gamble.
I gave up on RSD because I am unable sit in line overnight to get a record. If i find it on the aftermarket where i am not getting fleeced i will buy it. otherwise i can do without. I am excited they are putting out the first Generation X album again.
Doug and the Slugs, Cognac and bologna.
Next year it will be 74 live picture discs, mostly from the Cure
Don't give them any ideas!
There’s only one record I want and it might be a picture disc. So I doubt I’ll be waiting in line and I’ll probably wait for reviews before I try to get my hands on it.
Probably a smart play.
70's tangerine dream is good
I think they're overlooked by almost everyone.
I would say I agree with you about LIVE albums- however, I have changed my view on this over the past years, mainly after buying the amazing live album from Phosphorescent, Live From Music Hall. Also, I have seen several UA-cam videos of concerts that I wish would be released on vinyl(or even streaming) because the shows were amazing. Jack White's Austin City Limits and Spiritualized NOX ORAE 2019 are two great examples of this, where the extended jams and live show energy would make for a great listening experience.
There are certainly good live albums out there, but the vast majority of them aren't worth my time.
I think with the advances in recording technology, live quality is now dependent on the humans involved. it would have to be a very low budget band to not be able to match studio quality.
I'm fairly new to RSD. this will be my 3rd one. I am definately standing in line to pick up: Supergrass, Garbage, Eric Carr, Mr. Big, Keith Richards, and of course Van Halen !!
Good luck on your picks.
I personally like it. I make a list, and usually pick up other albums when I'm in line
I'm glad to hear you like the list.
My favorite Live record is the Ray Brown trio "The red hot Ray Brown trio" live at the Blue Note from 1987, it is really good! As a rule though, I don't really like live records, so I'll probably sit out this RSD. Liked and Subbed!
Welcome aboard!
If I go to RSD, I'm looking to pick up the Allman Brothers Band live release. Some might think "enough is enough," but every performance from those guys are different. Plus, it's the original lineup. Muddy and Howlin' Wolf releases are the only others I'm really interested in. I like live albums, if they are good, and I can't imagine those not being excellent. Just became aware of your channel. Nice Guinness poster.
Welcome aboard!
I gave up years ago. I now go a day or 2 after.
Nothing wrong with that.
I never got into Record Store Day. It’s definitely been just a money grab for quite a few years now.
That's a growing consensus it would seem.
I'm passing on the whole day.
You get to sleep in.
Live albums I only buy on CD
Luckily my record store usually only has 20 people that get there early like 40 mins early. So I'm really only interested in a couple so I'll stand there for 40 mins for a remaster of Suzi Quatro's second album. I saw her live with Alice Cooper so it's a special record and mine has been played to death. The Temptations now I missed that one when I went through the list I would be interested in that one. But generally I agree they are getting more and more trendy in their releases and 3 a year come on!
It's nice when you find a store that doesn't have a mass waiting outside.
RSD. An xcuse to charge even more for already overpriced lps
Regarding the glut of live releases for RSD, my suspicion is that they're the just easiest thing to throw together. If you're creating an RSD exclusive with manufactured scarcity, you don't really want to burn good material that would sell well as a standard release.
You may right.
I've never been to a record shop on RSD as I don't have a convenient location and the queueing/crowds are not my thing. I buy from an RSD shop a week later when they put the remaining stock online and generally get what I want that way. If there's anything particularly scarce then chances are I'll be unwilling to pay the asking price anyway.
This year I'll pick up the Motorhead live album as that series has been really enjoyable. Will take a look at the Pearl Jam if the price is OK. Might pick up one or more of the separate Doors singles (ie. without the mini turntable) depending on price as I don't think they are on the UK list.
Waiting in line and talking with like minded hobbyists is always part of the fun for me, but not everyone is into it.
Going out for Record Store Day got old really fast for me because I don't like crowds, getting up early, or having to compete for space at the bins. The last few years there's only been one or two "wanna have" records for me and I've been lucky enough to find them at Amazon independent store sellers within a month at the RSD list price (which was already too high). Reading the release list is usually a bringdown now.
Going for The Verve Pipe, Macho Man and Horse The Band!
Horse the Band! Only record I’m going for, had never heard of them before I saw them open for Bring Me the Horizon in 2007.
@@MetalHeadSolid I never got to see them live :(
I'm gonna get me The Madonna, Scott Weiland, and Van Halen. I'm glad RHINO is doint the Sammy Hagar/Van Halen albums later in the year.
Rhino has got their stuff together.
I bought my violent femmes lp when it initially came out (I was 13) and still have it. i have no interest in this in a picture disk. i would have got this if they would have made it a 2 record set with 2nd lp b sides or demos or rare. I do think this is a strong list, i love the early 80s stuff on here. The UK list is good too.
Actually many of mine I'm picking up are same ones you might pick up but I definitely want that Mr big and muddy waters for sure
I can't argue with good taste.
I have the CD single to the Freshman by the Verve Pipe - the "B" side was the raw acoustic version of the Freshman - i think it's the version you are referring to. It is a great paired down version.
It's definitely the version I'm thinking of, I just had it on cassette.
The sheer quantity of releases this year is insane. How is an average collector supposed to afford this much product in one hit? They (we/I) can't, so the flippers will win again...
Wouldn't it be better to spread those releases through several days in the year, both to generate long-term footfall in physical stores (the main purpose of RSD?) and make it semi-affordable for us fans?
I don't think the goal is to try and buy everything.
The Cure is not a picture disc from what I've heard
I keep hearing both, so I'm just going to wait and see.
I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to Ramones releases - I'll be picking that one up no matter what. Do you (or anyone else reading this) know if this year's RSD "Pleasant Dreams (New York Mixes)" are the same tracks that are on the "Pleasant Demos" boot album?
You might have better luck with RSD this Black Friday.
Not sure about going to this one.The live Billy Joel looks good but it’s coming out digitally on iTunes I noticed.I will say I’m 61 years old and have spent the night on parking lots for record store day for the past 10 years.I might be ready to stop with RSD.
It sounds like you've certainly paid your dues.
That reminds me...I always wanted to start a Jesus Jones cover band and call it Satan Smith.
I'll play the sousaphone!
I will be going and standing in line because I like hanging out with the people. It's usually the same group every year that shows up. This year there will be added swifties, but that's okay. There are 9 maybes on my list with 6 being definite wants. I have to pass on the Van Halen as the price tag is $99 and that seems too much for a not really live live album.
Talking with the other people in line has long been a favorite part of mine as well.
I agree with you on STP's Purple. I was, somehow, lucky to buy it on vinyl when it was released (on purple vinyl!) because, at the time, I had no cd player and couldn't afford one.
Sometimes later, I managed to save enough to buy a cd player because one of the albums at the time I really wanted was only released on cd.
Nope, not going, most of what is on the list is no (really) interesting to me, plus what's the point of getting in line, waiting to find out that when it's your turn, they don't have the records you want anymore (or they never had it in the first place, yes it happened to me).
I know some independent record store also do the RSD sale online so if I really want a records I'll go that way but again, this year... nope, nothing for me.
I'd rather go visit the day after and pick some normal records and sometimes they have leftovers that might be worth it.
I am in and looking to get :
1. Van Halen - Right Here Right Now
2. The Sword - Gods Of The Earth
3. Mr. Big - S/T
4. Dio - Live In Fresno 83
5. Eric Carr - Rockolgy
6. Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet
Good luck.
YES "Live At Knoxville 1972" for me. One of the greatest things about this 3LP release is that the discs are all 140g instead of that ridiculous and wasteful 180g nonsense.
You’re the first person that has complained about this RSD list. I think it’s a great list.
If you read the comments here, you'll see I'm far from the first person to be less than enthused. I'm glad to hear there are things you like, however.
@@thevinylattack I guess I meant first channel.
@@thevinylattack I’m interested in Flash & The Dynamics (Not Live), Willie Henderson (Not Live), Justin Hinds (Not Live), Suzi Quatro (Not Live), Jazz Dispensary (Not Live), Raphael Saadiq (Not Live), Howlin Wolf (Live), James Cotton (Not Live), Sir Douglas Quintet/Texas Tornadoes (Live), Son Volt (Not Live), Sonny Stitt (Live), Chet Baker (Not Live).

Wait until you see the prices!
I'm used to them at this point.
I have only gotten back into vinyl since May of '22. I love the bargain bin at my local record store, and spend most of my money on $2-$5 records. But this is the first RSD I plan on participating in, and the (2) that stick out to me are the Flock of Seagulls and Van Halen Live albums. I hope to add them to my collection
I hope you have a great time.
You'll need about $80 for those two titles. Crazy, ain't it?
@@mikefinney423 it sure is. I don't buy many new records, and this will be the first RSD I partake in, so I'm ok with it. But for those who buy new on the regular, or MOFI, etc, I don't know, it would be a very costly hobby for sure
@@thevinylattack thank you. Keep up the awesome work, I love your videos!
really excited for the larry lovestein/mac miller one
I have 8 on my list but I'm tired of standing in line and rushing into the store hoping to get all that I want. I'm opting for staying home and paying a bit more online.
With a few notable exceptions (e.g. Allman Brothers 'Fillmore East', Humble Pie 'Performance') I'm no fan of live albums in general, but if I'm not mistaken there's one more possible vinyl box set to be released from the Grateful Dead Fillmore West '69 shows (three box sets have already been released), and I was hoping this would be on the list. The Nuggets box looks good as does TFF 'Saturnine Martial', but much of the list is kind of...meh...
I want that Van Halen, if I stand in line it’s for that. Great review of the rsd list!
I'm glad you liked it.
I hear ya, but I'm more open to live recordings lately. I found the odd one or two that don't sound like ass. Who knew.
They're out there, but this seems excessive to me.
I think this by far the best RSD in years - they shortened the list from 500 to about 300 titles- side note - the cure show is a picture disc - it says in the web description, the 5 different studio one comps are amazing, poe reissue, groove armada, pearl jam live set, taylor, blur comp, suede demos, and most importantly no weird bowie bottom of the barrel scraping, sly and robbie vs roots radics - so many good things.
I think you might be in the minority this year (not that it matters either way).
I'm good
You're from Michigan, but overlooked the Ted Nugent RSD release.
I didn't overlook it, I'm just not interested.
I’m in the UK and believe we have a different list. I’m like you, I don’t much care for live albums. On first glance it was going to cost me around £270. But looking deeper, some of the releases, I can pick up originals via eBay for a fraction of the cost. The Sisters of Mercy, Reptile House EP is £40!!! Original on eBay is around £5!!!
It might be in my interest to look up some of those older titles on used vinyl.
I won’t stand in line for this list. I too old for that at this point in my life
Same. That's why I bring a camping chair ;-)
As you said Chris. I am done with record store day. Above and beyond the gouging? I am just done with it all. I will buy vinyl still but it will be on my terms.
As always...love the channel and I missed you very much when you were gone for a bit. Keep it coming bud. I and others here appreciate you channel.
All the best
Rod
I'm doing my best to keep consistent. Work has just been long hours of late.
time is money and money is time... it's worth the little bit of extra money to order them later on online than to wait on line for 4 hours
Not if I'm supporting flippers.
@@thevinylattack order from overstocked stores
@@thevinylattack I should clarify, instead of waiting on line for hours and dealing with crowds and driving to the store, I go later on in the day (or the next day) and whatever I cannot get I order online from a different brick and mortar record store... I don't buy from flippers (although I think a SOME [a very small amount] brick and mortar places intentionally order extra hard to get titles and hold them back to sell online at a premium)
@@thevinylattack even if you're making minimum wage ($8-10 per hour), if you only want 1 or 2 titles it's better to pay the premium price ($10- $15 more per record plus $10 shipping) online than to spend 5 hours (a half hour drive each way, 4 hours waiting on line and shopping in the store) you COULD have been working ($40 to $50 potential lost wages) instead - and that doesn't even count how much you spent on gas and parking.... and if it's more than 1 or 2 titles sometimes you can even get FREE shipping.... yeah, you miss out on the fun and excitement and the 10% off used stock but you also miss out on the next covid or flu cluster
