Did you ever do a follow up to this video around how to set up your fork for a hardtail? I'm in the processes of failing in my 150mm Lyrik Ultimate on a Ragley Big AL...
@@hardtailparty thanks! Is there any difference between dialling in for a hardtail Vs full sus? I like to sit a bit higher up in the travel on a hardtail
That was spot on with your explanation on how suspension works. The use of the syringe to demonstrate compression/rebound was excellent and I understood it a lot better after seeing your video. Keep up the Great Work!
Fantastic analogy! Suspension is one of the MOST important things to make a bike ride to its full potential. I'm looking forward to following vids on this topic.
This explaination is a great way to show suspension movement! This is simple and keeps the complexities of shim stacks and valving out of the equatuion.. Nice Job Steve
Great way to break down compression/rebound. The syringe was a clear way of demonstrating the function. Excellent for those of us who are visual learners.
I remember a late 90's Marzocchi Z2 I have that was just about as simple as the syringe you demoed. It has a piston with an o ring, and an orifice you adjusted with a needle valve. It also looked awsome with the sparkly blue paint and polished aluminum "M" Arch and crown! Every month or so the oil needed to be changed. It would fill with tiny metal particles. Looks better than it workes. Isn't that the stereotype for most Italian engineering?
I remember my z1cr back then. It was incredible. I never touched that fork in a year and a half of riding and it still felt incredible. That coil fork was so much fun.
first off thank you for giving me a video to look forward to during lockdown. seems like you are cranking them out daily and its very much appreciated , which i am happily signing up for your patreon, since you are providing me both education / entertainment... and lastly thanks for breaking down compression and rebound with comparing it to pressure of going through a hole that changes diameter. i had not thought of it this way and it makes sense.
Hi Stefanie. Thanks for becoming a patron, I really appreciate the support. It's because of my incredible patrons like you that I can afford to carve the time out of my daily life to make these videos.
Great explanation! I’ll be showing this to some of the NICA student athletes for sure. Seems like they are always asking about how the suspension works and how to set it up right. Good job!
Bloody hell. I work in a Suspension servicing workshop and this may be the simplest way I've seen suspension explained. Job well done mate, job well done.
Good stuff! Took many years and bikes and trial and error before figuring it out myself. Now I am on the full ridged fatbike kick so it’s even easier!😂😂
I'll do a dedicated video to this eventially. Lsc affects how your fork performs when it's moving at low speed (not the speed of the wheels, the speed of the fork). Things like bon when pumping, sprinting, or pedalling hard can be tuned out with lsc.
hardtail party i’m sure of it. can’t wait for the next one. i have such a difficult time understanding when i want or don’t want rebound. even for my moto.
I'm a little bit late with my comment. I just wanted to say that i just had the aha moment while watching this video. Great explanation!
I love when they're called "dampeners" .... Great video ... Thanks for sharing!
Looking for the video on how to adjust...
I already know about suspension on a little deeper level, but that syringe visualization was really awesome!
Great video!
Yea Rockshox. Love the channel. I would be lost without my shockwiz.
Nice video Steve!
#stevethescienceguy - good demonstration!
I dig it!
Did you learn something? If so, post up when you had your "aha moment." Don't forget to share this video with friends who could benefit from it.

@@tomhawk733 not yet. Fox has a good one with their dialed series.

Look forward to next video. suspension tuning is really hard to understand
Exactly what I’m looking for! Thanks!

You would have made a great science teacher. Wish I have this vid 10 years ago
Sweet description. Well done.
That was very helpful. Thank you!

OMG! I finally get it!

So a Lacrosse ball would be like having a rigid fork?... ;)
Pretty much. 100% rebound with no compression

How did I get some HP stickers!?
I do stickers through patreon

This video was pure gold! Really pedagocical
Maybe even andragogical too?
hardtail party most definitely. Checks all the boxes ✅

Very simply explained. Great video.
This was great, man! Love the simple explanation, one if the best way to explain these concepts I've ever heard! Cheers!!
thanks for sharing, very nice explanation
This is genuinely the best video of showing how suspension works. Wow, well done Steve. Keep up the great content.
Rebound is everything.
thanks for this video. I understood very rapidly and easy these concepts
I love the Rainbow Dash ball Steve, my daughter has the same one!
Great explanation, awesome stuff!
Job done Steve best explanation I have seen.
Great way to describe it Steve.
Wow! Great explanation!
Nice video👍
Great video! Would you recommend leaving LSC all the way open for most trails? I'm a really skinny dude if that makes a difference

Genius man! Super clear and creative. Mad props!
Thank you! Cheers!
I'm 5 seconds in and I just want to say, that the ball graphics are amazing. The world needs a Hardtail Party jersey with those graphics.
100% agree
This was so helpful. Now if I could just get a fork with air and not a coil one
High end coil forks have these same adjustments too. No air involved.
Lower end forks, unfortunately, do not have these adjustments.
I can assure you that the sr suntour xcm fork is not a high end fork ;)
great explanation!
Thanks Leo. Hopefully this helps people learn to tune their forks better.
