RAMONA HAYGOOD. 1961 at fort Sam Houston. An 18 year old white boy from Chicago. I would go to an outdoor snack bar and get a chili dog and there was an outdoor jukebox as well. While I ate my chili dog, I listened to etta James , had a second chili dog and listened to her again. When I would go, most of the time nobody was around. It was just me, etta and the young black girl taking care of the place. I am sure she wondered what it all about!

In 1978 I saw the Rolling Stones at a relatively small venue in Tucson AZ. When the opening act was announced, we said, "Etta who?" We were teenage rockers but got rocked on our ears by this gal. The audience was very enthusiastic about her, as we were all pleasantly surprised. Very odd, but vey pleasant choice as a Stones opener. Incidentally, this also marked the only time I ever saw Linda Ronstadt, a Tucson native, as she did a single song with the Stones (Tumblin' Dice). I imagine Linda and Etta had fun together backstage.

My wife used to sing this song to me. She passed away on May 22, 2022. I miss her so much. I love her so much. RIP Anna Maria Fillmore. 02/20/83 - 05/22/22 Lord Jesus hold her near, and tell her I love her and give her a hug and a kiss for me. Her absence is felt. Her love was a life line. Dear God, please help me and her son find hope to carry on until we are reunited.
