    This was such an amazing movie! I watched it yesterday with my mom. I was holding back my tears the whole time. The people with these kinds of jobs need to be more appreciated and noticed, they sacrifice their lives and many have died who aren't even talked about. Amazing heroes.

    The end of this movie made me cry, and that isn't a common thing with me. When they read out the names of the guys on the drilling deck, and Dylan's character starts to cry, I lost it.

      I agree. I actually went into this with very low expectations and was impressed with the sound design, cinematography etc. even the emotional connection and suspense. It's hard to generate genuine tension when working with a story the audience is already familiar with, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't on the edge of my seat at times. One of the better surprises of 2016, in my view.

    • @FrizFroz
      @FrizFroz 7 років тому +10

      Definitely. I'm not the biggest fan of Mark Wahlberg, who has been hit and miss in his movies (there's The Fighter and The Departed, but then there's also Max Payne, Transformers and the 2001 Planet of the Apes). Granted, it's usually the director's fault for not using him properly, but here he was a class act alongside Kurt Russell. There's always a few obligatory disaster movies churned out each year, and for the most part they are pretty meh. But this movie had heart, more so than any disaster movie released recently - in fact, I'm glad it came out when it did, because the past few months have been seriously starved of cinematic quality.

    Coming from working in the oilfield and living the culture I found this to be an incredible movie. It was very well made. For all those people showing disrespect to the 11 men who lost their lives and the families of those men you should be ashamed of yourselves. To the people who are against the oil and gas industry what are you are you willing to give up in your life? Are you willing to give up everything you have and basically become Amish? God bless my brothers and sisters in the oilfield and stay safe. The most important thing at the end of the day is everyone goes home the way they showed up for their hitch.

      King Steve Don't tell her to get a grip you bellend, she can cry if she fucking wants to, everyone has their own emotion levels and opinions and things, and this obviously got her emotional, maybe it's a film but it just shows what can actually happen and how sad it actually can be, as it happens in real life so you get a grip. You never know people's backgrounds and past or what they have gone through, this could happen to anyone working in those circumstances, and it upset the girl so have more respect you waste of space

    In an irony fit for the big screen, executives were onboard Deepwater on 20 April when the explosions wracked the vessel, celebrating seven straight years without serious accidents. However, US federal data revealed that "three of every four incidents that triggered federal investigations into safety and other problems on deepwater drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico since 2008 have been on rigs operated by Transocean."
    Mike Williams, an electronics technician (and Wahlberg's character in the cinematic take on the events) later testified he had raised concerns about safety.
    The resulting oil spill saw around 780,000 cubic meters of oil gush into the waters, impacting 180,000 square kilometers of ocean. The sludge spread, affecting beaches, wetlands, and wildlife.
    Oil gushed out of the well for a staggering 87 days, as repeated attempts to plug the hole failed. Other efforts to control the spill included controlled burns, setting the seas on fire, while skipper ships attempted to scoop the oil out of the water. The leak was plugged on July 15 and eventually, on September 19 the well was declared "officially dead" by US Coast Guard admiral Thad Allen, after cement was pumped in through a relief well.
    The final report into the Deepwater disaster found BP was most to blame, though also held Transocean and contractor Halliburton to account - the latter for laying faulty cement in the well to begin with.
    However, it ultimately determined BP made "a series of decisions that complicated cementing operations, added risk, and may have contributed to the ultimate failure of the cement job", which in turn allowed such a catastrophic volume of oil to flood the ocean. Darkly, BP's shares actually rose after the report, reportedly based on the fact it wasn't solely responsible for the disaster.
    The impact of the spill is still being felt, though. The Deepwater Horizon incident ended up being the largest marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry, and recent studies have found the pollution has lead to deformities in fish stocks in the area. The ecosystem is expected to take years to recover.

    This was a great movie, especially considering it was based off of a true story of the major oil spill back in 2010... it may not have effected a lot of people watching it, but any oil spill sucks. Especially when tons of sea life dies because of it. I remember donating a foot of my hair to help clean up the oil. This was a brilliant movie, and it brought me to tears.

    BP's spill made the Exxon Valdez incident look like no big deal.

    • @stopmotionproductions1832
      @stopmotionproductions1832 5 років тому

      Robot Bjorn Exxon-Valdez wasn’t a big deal. The oil didn’t even do most of the damage. The clean up crews spewed more owl and gas into the ocean and did more harm than the initial oil. The Prince William Sound was regenerated in 3 years and it would take navigational charts to find where the spill happened. Oil naturally spills from the ocean floor. That’s why phytoplankton adapted to it and are able to consume it. The phytoplankton and plant life did a better job at cleaning up the oil than the clean up crews did.

The production even talked to familys of who lost people of this incedent and made sure they were okay with it and went over certain details of the film with them. This will be about the crew, not who is to blame

Also there is debate that this probably is the fault of the higher ups who refused to go through proper safty checks. Not the crew, who are all only human and did what they could. People on board died trying to stop this from happening so I'd shut up if I were you.
