      I'm from Melbourne aswell but will be moving to Nakhon Si Thammarat in around 16 months. Melbourne isn't what it Was pre covid. Cost of living is just nuts.

      @@grantmckay6429 We saw the writing on the wall over 12 months ago and decided to up sticks and go. Who knows where it will all be in another 12 but one thing we do know is Thailand is a neutral country and will always roll on in its own way, after all it's been here for a long time. Thanks for dropping a comment 👍

      @roadsandrevelations You made a smart move. I've been in Nakhon Si Thammarat for the past month with wife who's from Phrom Khirri and its just so relaxing. The locals make me feel welcome and the main town is only 30 minutes away and has all the mod cons. The only negative I can think of is the language barrier but I can get a tutor when we move here. We have an old style Thai house which we will demolish and rebuild something nice. Can't wait to get back here and start the next chapter.
      Cheers Grant

      @@grantmckay6429 Sounds like you've got a good plan going on. Up here in Chiang Mai we get by with English. Many locals seem to understand what we are saying even if they don't speak it well.

    Your electricty bill seems very high, did I hear correctly @ $100 aud per week ?......................................ours up here in Chiang Rai averages @ 1500 baht per month, Highest ever has been 2000 baht in the 6 years I have lived here, thats with 3 x adults..............................................maybe worth looking checking what is using the majority of power at your house.

      @@gavinrcolpitts1988 Have The internal size of our house is around 310sqm and we have 8 air-conditioners in the house 1 of those is in the gym so only used in short bursts and the rest not all running at the same time of course. Also pool filtration system with auto chlorinator. We have 2 burner Electric cook top, Lighting throughout the house of course. Electric main gate and side gate, Security system, Electric pump for water to house and Electric hot water cylinder, not individual water heaters in each shower. Now the weather is cooling we are using fans and have the doors open so it will be interesting to see the next Electricity bill.
      We will also call into local PEA office and get our meter tariff checked.

      I honestly couldn't believe how high that figure was either. That's a minimum $5,200 AUD/year. I live in one of the most expensive cities in the US, and that sounds high even to me. Mind you, I have no idea how many sq meters they have, or how many air con units, or how low they are dropping the thermostat, plus they may have many appliances, so there is a lot that is unstated in this video that could explain the high cost. I think I rewound and rewatched that part about 4 times to make sure I was catching everything they said, and I usually watch most videos once at 2X speed. lol
      They might also have a huge fridge, too, which guzzles power. Plus, they probably have both a washer and dryer.
      Thank goodness they don't also have an electric vehicle.

      @@LearnGrowHealThrive Check out our answer to the previous comment above. That'll give you an idea of what we are running electricity wise. It's not $100 every week as we mentioned it can drop to half of that late November through to the end of March. We expect this year we may go lower as we have become more acclimatized.

      @@roadsandrevelations In Thailand, for a house with no more than 4 people,
      use air conditioning for sleeping at night
      and sometimes during the day (not every day). The average electricity bill is not more than 3,000 baht/month or not more than 10 USD/month.
      I live in Bangkok. I have 3 air conditioners for my family of 3. I pay about 2,000 baht per month for electricity and 150 baht per month for water supply.
      (Except during March-May, the electricity bill will increase to about 4,000 baht/month.)

      @louis20122 We appreciate your comment. We were watching a vlog only yesterday where someone said something similar.
      I guess Bangkok is a far more scaled city than Chiang Mai and as such offers more. One thing that Chiang Mai lacks is a decent public transport system.
      We see Chiang Mai as a far more laid back place to live, that's why we chose to live here. Easy to jump a flight ✈️ to the big smoke for a few days when we need too.

      Ours would be as well depending on location. Our home is a brand new build and is about 320sqm not including parking which is another 42sqm. If it was the Gold Coast probably anything towards $1.5mto $1.8m. But we thought we'd average things out on the national average Australian house price which currently sits at around 802k .

    One of the thing that I miss from living in the west is the relatively cheap beef, and cheese. The good imported beef and cheese are just too expensive in South East Asia.

    • @roadsandrevelations
      @roadsandrevelations  9 годин тому

      We find the Australian grass fed beef rump that is sold at Makro is approx $16 AUD a kilo. Looking at the equivalent in Australia it's around $30 AUD in Australia. So I think we are getting a good deal here at our local Makro.
      Cheese is getting expensive even in Australia now.

    Hi, like your vids. I was under the impression that you can’t own a house on land in Thailand. Condos and apartments yes, but not houses?

    • @roadsandrevelations
      @roadsandrevelations  День тому +1

      Hi @CeriJostlear Your right about the land. A foreigner can't own land in their name here. You can own the building on it and lease the land under the building on a 30 year lease with ongoing renewals. There are also other legal structures under Thai law that a legal professional can help you with when buying a home here whether a condo or house. These sort of arrangements have existed here in Thailand for many years and work successfully if set up using a good legal professional. 👍
