Can the family request the bones as they are WITHOUT them being ground up?? I would think this could be cheaper also since it skips a process

It depends on the funeral home. In the U.S. it's rare. But in Japan, it's traditional to let the family pick through the bones with chopsticks after the cremation and place special bones in an urn .

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Most retorts should be able to accommodate you. You may wish to make a few calls to local funeral homes to inquire. I also recommend you plan ahead for your eventual cremation.

Most retorts filter the emissions so that no smoke comes out. They have vents that go out through the roof of the building.

The burning process is designed to eliminate most particulates. Any matter that is left is scrubbed out by filtering.

The gasses and particulate matter from the primary chamber goes through a secondary chamber where the majority of it is burned - there shouldn't be any visible smoke coming from the chimney.​@@GsxRaider
