Moving stock DEFINITELY works. What sells in one location isn't wanted elsewhere. A gent donated some stuff to a charity shop while I was there this morning. Couldn't sell it at a flea market (American brocante) for love or money. Snatched up in the charity store by a shopper before it even hit the floor, and it's not the first time I've seen it happen either. Antques go the same way. What doesn't garner a second glance in one location flies off the shelf 20 miles away. (that Roman glass bangle would be gone here. Brown wood alas tends to go for pennies.)
Thank you David for posting this. We are going to Sidmouth in June and had already planned to visit AOH, seeing the video it looks really nice. Our hotel is less than 5 mins away.
Hi David, What the best way to get in contact with you for just a bit of beginners advice ? Maybe an email ? Trying to grasp the antiques trade but keep running into obstacles and not sure what I’m doing wrong………..Don’t really want to throw the towel in either 🤣
Loads of advice here, but sorry I can’t help on an individual basis. I’m occasionally employed to mentor, but that is costly. Visit one of Vincent’s antiques centres and chat to people. Take a cabinet and work a day or so in one of the shops…that’s the best way to learn. D
Visited here March 2024, sadly no trade discount offered (I have been in the trade over 40 years, this has never happened to me) and I was told via Trip Advisor that AOH do not encourage the trade as they want "Something for nothing". I realise that TV "experts" often pay less than 50% of ticket price for an item but this does not happen in the real world. Antiques dealers need to buy stock every day or week, why would an antiques centre discourage them?
TMB??? aaw how cute is that😂. thank you for the tour David

Bo’ness as in Scotland? He’s getting stock from
Bowness in the Lake District. They move stock around the country to each of their antiques centres

They sell a huge amount to the trade. Their Taunton antiques market on a Monday is packed with trade!
@@DavidHarperAntiques Then why do they claim that they dont want the trade on the Sidmouth branch Trip Advisor page?
