Want to throw out a big thank you for all the videos. I've used a few now to research some camping areas in WV and saves me a ton of meaningless drive time and I have a good idea what to expect when I arrive. Great channel keep up the awesome content.
I wanted to thank you for all your effort to put these wonderful videos together! My husband and I just returned from our first dispersed camping trip ever. We loved it!!! We were able to easily follow your GPS coordinates for the Gandy Creek dispersed camping area. We stayed at the beautiful site along the creek with the babbling brook turn, it was so relaxing! We were pleasantly surprised to find a vault toilet near the area, a little camp store called Ruby's which sold, ice, wood and sundries as well as an amazing distillery not far away called Hollow Spirits. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR TIME IN MAKING THE VIDEOS!
So glad you got something out of our video Cassie. Be sure to activate the notification bell so you don't miss our next video. We have three additional videos publishing soon set in West Virginia. Thanks for watching! Lou
Cassie, This past spring Melody and I started a Facebook Group, Free and Affordable RV Camping in the USA: facebook.com/groups/freecampingusa You are invited to join the group. We'd love to see photos from your Gandy Creek camping trip! Lou
Thanks for posting this and all your other WV videos...you’ve brought some great areas to our attention. Just a heads up to people planning to camp at Gandy Creek on wknds during warmer months...have a plan B. This area has gotten heavy use this summer and was full Labor Day weekend.
So glad I found your channel, this is so helpful! I'm coming home in 2 weeks from my deployment and my friends and I are wanting to do some dispersed camping. We also do volunteer search and rescue so these places would be awesome to setup. Thanks man!
Very informative. Would love to check it out. Would you guess how many private spots you could park a 16' camper at and down at the Creek, not so much along the road? Thanks!
Great content! Is this Rt. 29 you speak of also called Whitmer Road? I plugged in the coordinates and on Gaia Maps I am not seeing where the Gandy Creek Dispersed Camping Area starts at. Planning a trip to Seneca Rocks and researching for this type of camping. Thanks!!
State Route 29 is also known as Whitmer Road. The dispersed camping area is marked by a national forest sign entering from both the North and South. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
At 0:13 you have an image of a topo map with the sites marked. Where did you get that map? Is there a download for it available? I'd like to be able to find these places too.
The closest free dispersed camping to Morgantown that I know of is on Canaan Loop Road in the Monongahela National Forest. The scenery is breathtaking up there and has a sub-alpine feel. There is a video on my channel for Canaan Loop Road.
First come, first-served, no reservation or permit is required. Be sure to activate the notification bell so you don't miss our next video. I have several more free camping videos set in West Virginia publishing soon. Thanks for watching! Lou
@@LivingOurDreamNow nice! All honesty your videos are extremely detailed and well done. A really great resource for scouting out a site prior to a voyage. Human to human, THANK YOU!
Check Governor Jim Justice's website. I believe there may be an executive order imposing a 14-day period of self-quarantine for certain out-of-state residents.

I'm actually planning a trip Labor Day weekend with some friends. Do you have recommendations for other, ideally dispersed, camping in the area?

I would say at least half a dozen campsites would accommodate a 16 foot camper. Lou
Thanks Lou. We have a place not too awful far from there. I'll be checking it out soon, I hope. @@LivingOurDreamNow
Very nice!!
Thanks for the visit. Your feedback is much appreciated.
Went here last year with a buddy sites everywhere...If you follow this road it takes you into white sulpher springs.
Great camping location, especially if you like hiking or backpacking. Nearby Spruce Knob is a great excursion too! Lou

Obtained this map from the U.S. Forest Service Website, I believe at the Alerts and Notices Tab.
I assume you don't just show up and grab a site? I tried looking at Monongahela NF website and can't see a number for Gandy Creek .
All sites at the Gandy Creek Dispersed Camping Area are first come, first serve and are free.
any chance you can share the map coordinates?
Grid coordinates for this free dispersed camping location are within the written video description on UA-cam. Just verified same. Lou
