  • I'm answering one of your top questions today. How long does Abeka take? That answer will vary from family to family, and child to child, but I'll do my best to show you how long it takes my family to get through each day.

    Links from the video!
    Takeaways:
    1. Abeka Language Arts encompasses a lot of subjects: grammar, composition, literature, phonics, handwriting, reading comprehension, spelling, and vocabulary. There'a a lot to cover!
    2. Each day will be different and the assignments vary day to day.
    3. Each child will take a different amount of time. Every child id unique. Some days they may struggle and take longer, and tat's okay.
    4. Some kids like to work independently (like mine). It may be much more hands off than you think. Disclaimer: My family receives a small commission sometimes when you purchase something I link in my description. I'll only link things I use and love myself. Thank you for your support!

    Great video. I love their phonics program, this is my first time using it for my Kinder and my second grader is using it for the 2nd time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the readers! High quality, great graphics, good morals...no one else has anything like it. I am however using both Abeka and Masterbooks LLFLE for my second grader because I love how they gently introduce grammar concepts and their writing prompts I feel will help him a bit with that. So I'm going to be using both...Abeka for reinforcement and as a way to change things up. For me I feel comfortable having a spine and another curriculum for reinforcement or extra practice. Can you do a flip thru of 3rd grade and add your input on your favorite parts? Also btw I love your short hair, it looks so nice! :)

    Hey Mandy, I was wondering how important it is to get all the Teachers Manuals for 3rd grade Language Arts? I have a friend who has done Abeka before and hasn’t use them for the younger grades. I don’t know if I am that confident in myself, but I was curious if you ever felt like you didn’t need the Teachers guides, with your experience and such.

    Would you flip through the teacher guide how it looks like for your abeka LA?

    I am considering homeschooling temporarily during the pandemic. My kids are entering 3rd and 4th grade and I love our school but I feel like they will end up at home with me anyway. I feel like it’s tough to be tied down to the school’s elearning and I wonder if I should do my own thing so we can make our school week work for us. Could you maybe do a video about homeschooling temporarily? Like what to focus on and what we can let go of? Thanks so much. You probably have lots of people like me coming to your channel for homeschooling tips - who want this to be a temporary thing 😂

      ^ I’ll add: I wonder if I could focus on math and language arts. Everything else, we will just wing it. I’m considering Teaching Textbooks for math and Abeka for language arts. Could we do those two things every day and then just do hikes and our own field trips? 😬 and maybe I’ll do some UA-cam videos for history, science 🤣 bare bones homeschooling to make it through the pandemic?

    Do you use the third grade curriculum in fourth grade for LA? How do I start a 4th grader at the right level?

And it’s not him not understanding do you have an Instagram or anything I could message you on for some advice.. I’m thinking I’m doing something a little wrong maybe not doing the lesson plans correctly. The past two days have been 8/9 hours for just the language arts and math 😩 we are also only on lesson 3 as of today

      You should join the Abeka Homeschool Moms on facebook , you could probably ask your question there and get support from other moms!

      This is my third time using the first grade abeka. It should only take maybe 15 minutes to teach the language lesson and then having them do their work sheets and then have them read to you for a few minutes from their book. First grade should only need maybe 2 hours tops for an entire school day.

      Try switching to good and beautiful.....He may need shorter lessons? And their curriculum is free online.

    I must be doing something wrong! I am teaching to my first grader LA and with phonics, writing, spelling, reading AM, and the worksheets, I feel like it takes me 45 minutes too. I would think the younger grades would be shorter. I also split things up so we aren't doing a straight 45 minutes of LA, so that seems to help.

    We bought the teacher led program, but I'm trying to go more towards parent led. Do you know if I can do that with the books given for accreditated version?

    My 7 year old daughter is going to start Abeka's L.A this year. She did GAB last year, but after hearing you I'm a bit worried. With GAB everything is written right there for you to say to the child, but with Abeka I have to read a huge book and do lessons? Do I need the teacher's guide? Can we just read the books and add extra stuff if she is struggling to get a concept? I don't fore see her struggling too much, so I'm thinking it will be okay?

    So glad you posted this today. I started homeschooling my 5th grade son two days ago. We are in the 4th grade Abeka language arts curriculum. I was so discouraged and depressed today because it took me two hours to get him through it. I kept thinking that it shouldn’t take anymore than an hour to get through. He was just completely unfocused and complaining the whole time which made me have to keep stopping. I did abeka as a child, so I know how solid their curriculum is and am hoping we don’t have to switch to something that is more tolerable for him. I’m already noticing that there is probably a lot of fluff that I can cut out.

    My daughter get really bored with Abeka. What do you think of the Kindergarten language arts through IEW? It has phonics, reading, spelling and etc and moves into Writing. ( It sounds like the k-2 may be new)

    How many worksheets a day?

    • @walkinginthespiritministri6465
      @walkinginthespiritministri6465 3 роки тому +1

      Each lessons usually has 1or 2 at most worksheets a day, if they don’t have a worksheet it’s probably just some reading or video only.

    Do you have any idea about how long it takes with videos, I am considering Abeka but we really want to do it acredited since it is our first time and we will be moving from private to Abeka IF we decide to go for it.

      Jacqueline Amaya I’ve never done the academy streaming. I would highly suggest going to one of the FB Abeka groups and asking. They are so nice and will tell you anything you need to know.

      The Handmade Homeschooler - Mandy Maltz is it not accredited if it’s taught by the parent?

    • @walkinginthespiritministri6465
      @walkinginthespiritministri6465 3 роки тому +3

      The videos on accredited are a lot of work. If you’re used to a flexible schedule (or that’s what you want), accredited makes this hard. It’s not too bad if you do the videos but choose unaccredited because you can move at your own pace and cut out what you feel isn’t necessary. The longest videos are Arithmetic and History/Science which can be around 40 minutes long. Arithmetic will take the longest because it’s somewhat “advanced” if your child isn’t the best at math. A school day for us with Abeka starts at 8am and ends anywhere from 1-3pm, depending on how complicated the math is that day. That’s including about 1hr for lunch/snack and about 45 minute recess.

      Stephanie Jones the awesome thing about homeschool is that there is no “behind”. It’s so much more relaxed. With Abeka curriculum, you’d be ahead by a good year from public school. My kids have never been behind, even when we didn’t have Abeka :)
