100% keep thrifting as much as you (sanely) can! You upcycling things instead of getting brand new for everything would be a huge part of the appeal for me (and I'm sure others)! Too much fabric gets thrown out (there’s beaches where the floor is 5ft+ of discarded clothing, which is bonkers). Not everyone has to be a customer, so don’t worry about the people who won’t want reused stuff. There's def people who will appreciate your upcycled creations!
Also - you might not want to put a lot of fabric/lace on the bottom of bags bc they’ll get mucked up - coating it with Scotchgard or something similar might be a good idea (just obv read what it can/can't be used on and test on small areas to make sure it's not going to mess it up)

I dont think anyone will care about the items being thrifted, other than feeling neutral or positive about it. I think mostly people will just be happy to see hand made things at conventions and markets and stuff. At least that's been my experience art vending in bc. Your videos are making me so inspired to make some kawaii pastel thingssss

I definitely agree with the other folks who are saying the upcycling is 100% a part of the appeal and for me thrifted materials are a selling point because it's so much more sustainable. I think if you were using all new materials it would almost feel artificial considering diying thrifted items is such an important aspect of punk and goth counterculture, I think maybe that nuance is something that your mother might be missing. Using thrifted materials and upcycling old items leads to something much more unique and one of a kind, I think what you're doing is great

sorry I'm a few days late lol but ABSOLUTELY still use thrifted materials when you can! Both the bags themselves and all the decor elements. It keeps costs down for you, and as a customer I always look for brands that have sustainable practices (which is like... so few which is what got me into thrift/DIY in the first place). Plus your pieces will be even more unique and one of a kind vs if you bought only what stores carried.

These bags are great inspiration, cuz I'm making my own DIY red and black bag for a concert next month. Its a big deal because the artist all my embroidery is based on will probably actually see it and its a very exciting idea.

Great bags, and I think you did a great job with them 😊. My favorites are the Beetlejuice and the one with purple. I actually prefer purple over red, so maybe you will consider doing a few more in that color in the future as well 😊.

I know a small business that upcycles thrifted clothes and theyre fairly successful. Well they dont do it as well as you do, the piece i bought for them is all crooked and the pattern isnt applied properly. So i guess you'll be even more successful!

I haven’t made a video myself, but I know Emily Boo made a great video about how to start as an alt UA-camr ! ua-cam.com/video/Vjl9KSTM7jM/v-deo.htmlsi=AbFuzhbsbUuXxcWV I would watch that :-) in terms of not being nervous in front of the camera, it’s ok ! Everyone is nervous at first, and you will get less nervous the longer you do it, you can always try practice recording (film with the knowledge you will not upload, just to get comfy with the camera) but if I were you I’d just dive in and give it a go! I barely knew anything when I started (my first videos weren’t even filmed landscape mode 🤦) so you truly learn a lot as you go. Go for it! You might find you really enjoy it ❤️🥰

I love your upcycled Designs but some of the your stiching for me is to big. The seams won´t last that long. Can I ask you have you tried sew your own purses? Some are really easy to make I´ve worked somewhere we sew ourses and backbacks from scratch. I hope to see more of projects in the future.
I tie knots as I sew between every few stitches so it tends to hold together in my experience … I have my personal bag that I’ve used pretty much every day for years now and it’s been holding together … but thank you for the advice :-)
I prefer to use bags instead of making them from scratch but who knows what the future holds! Thanks for the comment :-)
Edit: to clarify also for anyone concerned! The really huge embroidery hand stitching (for instance on the red and black laptop bag with the X on it) is only decorative, there is also machine stitching I used my machine for to hold everything in place underneath ! The hand stitching just adds color and texture :-)
When will you be launching the bags?
My plan is to launch everything at once (website and all products) I’m currently still in inventory creation step , so there will be a lot of time before everything is created, photographed, posted, etc ! Minimum two months I’m thinking ? Maybe longer - we’ll see, I’m not really sure as this is my first time pursuing this :D
TLDR: not sure yet, stay tuned!

Where are the iron on studs from?
I found them at the thrift store ! You can get similar ones at craft stores , (unfortunately it seems like the company has gone out of business that made the specific ones I have)
