  • A quick look at what I am bringing on my PCT thru-hike starting in April of 2024. A few things may appear to be missing but that is because Emily and I will be sharing the weight with certain items.

It’s called Pass Through charging not trickle charge. Trickle charge is a low charge for low power devices ie AirPods..

Trickle charge is for smaller electronics like watches, headlamps etc.

Very curious about the cooking situation. If you’re camping at a spot with no water source, how are you washing out your pot afterwards? I’m just thinking I’d want to avoid using the filtered water for that.

Great point. In areas where water is less accessible, we are going to try and prioritize meals that don't need to be cooked or dehydrated meals that only require boiled water just to avoid the cleanup. Otherwise, we will just have to plan ahead. With a max water carry of 6L for myself, hopefully, that is enough to get everything nice and clean.

Nice set up! I did the PCT in '21, and my kit definitely changed throughout the hike.
-I ended up dumping my sun umbrella in a hiker box because it would trap the heat on the really hot days, but plenty of people swear by them.
-You don't need a full roll of luko tape. Just wrap some around a pen/sharpie/itself or even your trekking pole. If you ever run out, there is a very high chance you'll find more luko tape in hiker boxes on your journey. And do the same thing with a little bit of duct tape as well, for those unexpected gear failures.
-Have you tried using injinji liners with the darn toughs? Perfect for helping prevent those blisters!
-I used the Durston last year on the CT and its the best tent (just double check the lines that hold the floor in place, mine came untied so I had to make some tougher knots).
-There were a few sections we needed more than 4L of water so just keep an eye on the water report 😊.
(Sorry for all the unsolicited advice 😅) Good luck, yall are gonna rock it!!!

Thanks so much for all the tips! I haven't tried the injinjis but my partner is using them and seems to like them a lot. You're totally right about the tapes, both of them. Putting them on the trekking pole will be super helpful.

Add the blue connector and a loop of line to your CNOC bag , this will allow you to gravity filter your water right into a SmartWater bottle.

Id go with the full frame also personally. You could always change your mind and switch cameras if you regret it.

That’s what I went with. Didn’t want to regret any image quality. Landed on the A7c and 40mm 2.5

Great point. Luckily my partner also has one. We doubled up on stoves too just so we aren’t waiting for one of us to finish cooking

What do you stuff your pillow with on a freezing night when you need to wear your puffy to bed?

Good luck on your start date! Honestly, I'm hoping it never comes to that point and given my quilt rating and sharing a tent I don't foresee it being an issue. However, socks, underwear and then I can fold up the 1/8th pad to help make it a bit thicker too.
