Cobra Kai works so well because it doesn't despise its source material, unlike many other reboots / remakes / sequels. You can tell that the people writing Cobra Kai love The Karate Kid. They don't seek to deconstruct or subvert the original. They just seek to tell the next chapter in the story, and they do it in a way that respects the original movies. That's a unique concept in Hollywood these days.
The only All Valley rules reference we have is when Alli explains them to Daniel and she clearly says that everything above the belt is legal. We have also seen fighters punch and kick opponents in the face and head in many of the tournament fights. Sam used Johnny’s “flying tornado kick”, which kicked Tory in the head. Even if hits to the head are illegal in most tournaments, it has never been a rule at the All Valley.

The show is not built around the theory that Daniel was the bully. That is an untenable idea - Johnny did not own Allie, He was definitely the aggressor. The show, on the other hand, shows that johnny really is not that bad of a guy and Daniel is a flawed human being too (Which they did recognize in the 3rd movie).
I'm tired of people saying the crane kick was illegal. The rules state anything above the waist is legal. Besides, there's no evidence that the crane kick was illegal in the first place.
This is one of those very few shows that still has a chance for the future. It's delivering the right message to both fans and new audiences. Waiting to see how it evolves.

Ali broke up with Johnny and Johnny wasn't leaving her alone and no one was helping her because they were afraid of getting beat up by these capable dummies. The "illegal kick" is actually legal, as are sweeps. And Daniel got revenge as a means not because he was bullying them but because he was fed up with them buying him. I did it all the time wen I was younger because I was bullied constantly, until I fought back. Once I fought back, the bullying stopped. Violence doesn't solve anything is bs, do it if you must or to take a stand, and screw the consequences, you did the right thing to fight back. Defend yourself everytime.

In season three when you show that Daniel gets his nose honked you said well that is the same what happen in the beginning of part two where Mr. Miyagi did it to Crese in the parking lot but why didn’t you say the real reason is that Daniel did it to that guy at the end of the fight he didn’t kill him and he wanted to be killed and then he did the pretend and honked his nose so that was the reference not the beginning of part two it was the end of part two. Now I do not know why a debate was ever started with "who was the bully ?"..... seriously ?? 🙄🤨 If anyone carefully watches the first fight scene between Daniel and Johnny it is clear that Ali has broken her relationship with Johnny off because Johnny tries to talk to her about getting back together . Then Ali stands her ground and tells Johnny she does not want to get back together with him.... Johnny then erupts into an anger fit and throws down Ali's radio in the sand . At this time Daniel has let Johnny try to talk to Ali but when Johnny throws Ali's radio down Daniel steps in to defend Ali ( yes true she did not ask him to but back in that time it was known as chivalry ) and it showed that Daniel respected Ali . Johnny was offended that Daniel ( being someone he considered an outsider in the situation ) and Johnny first knocked Daniel on Daniel's butt in the sand... hence forth at their first altercation Johnny struck first and is clearly the bully . At that point Daniel did stand up and basically sucker punched Johnny but by that point Johnny had already started things off bad . Well, that is your opinion that season 2 is stronger, but I don't agree. The biggest reason is WAY too much of that teeny-bopper nonsense. Yes all 4 seasons have this, but season 2 takes it to ludicrous levels. I like getting more of Kreese in season 2, and more character exploration.....however, that school fight was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. COMPLETELY unbelievable (even for a TV show) and was cheaply used to set up most of season 3 story points. Nope, season 2 was badly written and all over the place. It gets better with 3 and I think 4 is actually my favorite so far. To each their own.
The idea that Daniel was the aggressor in the movie Karate Kid is completely false. At no time did Ally show any indication that she was interested in Johnny. Every scene she was in made it 100% crystal clear she was ALL IN for Daniel....all of the time. For Johnny to think she was his makes him seem like the desperate psycho that he was.
