This is one of the greatest interviews of all time. Mike Wallace was one the finest journalists this country has ever produced. He knew what to ask, when to ask it and he had guts.
Most journalists today do not speak truth to power. They’re more interested in not jeopardizing their access than anything else.
As for Ayatollah Khomeini, regardless of how one feels about the man and his regime, he was one of the 20th century’s most important and intelligent leaders. What he accomplished was no easy feat. The Shah was perhaps the most powerful ruler in the Middle East. No one could’ve foreseen the events that would unfold shortly after Carter’s famous “Island of Stability” speech.
Not only did he mobilize the nation against the Shah’s regime but Iran under his leadership was able to withstand a nearly decade long war that began almost as soon as he took power.

You do that to America, heavily sanction it, and it will fall apart very, very quick!! But Iran is a very strong country, their willpower is very strong, which is why they are able to be so strong even though they have heavy sanctions on them.
