An autistic child can have speech delay, or the opposite, hyper verbal. Having a delay in verbal communication does not mean there is a delay in understanding. Not having eye contact is not always true. Many autistic females are good at eye contact. Even boys/men, because this is learned behaviour.
Autism is a different neurotype, meaning the brain is wired differently, where some parts are over developed and some parts underdeveloped. It is 80-85% inherited so if your child is autistic, most probably a parent is as well. Between 10-15% of autistics have learning difficulties/ delays.
Autism also has co-occurring conditions like: ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia, Epilepsy, Tourette's Syndrome. Meares Irlen Syndrome.
