This pretty much highlights my ship progression since I bought the game, went Sidey > Mk3 > Python > Anaconda and they've all been great
I'm exactly the same, just put an adder between the sidewinder & cobra and there's my journey
Basically my plan too. I'm in the Cobra right now, got a few mill saved already from exploration, and after one big mining haul I'll upgrade
Edit: I ended up upgrading to a Krait II and I'll be experimenting different loadouts and playstyles with that for a while

Rumor as it that around year 3400ish they plan to buy the Corvette blueprint, give it a class 9 FSD and rebrand it Anaconda MK2, at wish point the current anaconda Bp will be further striped down and rebranded Anaconda Phantom. That armour already defies phisics but they can crank it up a notch... for Science!!!

Personally I don't like big ships: unable to land on outposts, tricky to land on some planets, slow, cumbersome, and in the end not that much fun to fly around. The Python is great, but it barely flies better than the big ones, so to me the Krait MKII is the best overall ship in the game. Also, I like to be centered in the cockpit, and I like to have a "wide view of the universe" kind of cockpit, here again the Krait ticks all of the boxes. Actually that ship ticks all the boxes a CMDR may have, except far-range exploration: but guess what, there is the Phantom, and given that their modules are interchangeables, it ends up being basically one single ship, so even there the Krait delivers...
Too bad its shaped like a nacho chip and has less than 1500 mj for shields.
I used the mk2 for mining. My fly around ship is my phantom.
Conda is so awesome you won't miss the few things which are its weaknesses. That's been my experience going to it from a Python. Plus, I found a skin that makes it look incredible.
I think the Python is just among the best there is for mining and trading, and the absolute best for mission grinding and community goals. May not have the best cargo capacity, but still has better than anything else that can STILL land at outposts (you know, medium pads).
For anything combat-related, including piracy and scavenging wrecks (whether or not you created those wrecks), Krait it is. May not be as sturdy as the Python, but it turns faster, flies faster, and it can have a ship launched fighter.
You don't need any other ship in the game. Unless you wanna go around exploring, in which case the Krait Phantom will fulfill that purpose flawlessly. No rank grind, no landing restrictions involved for any of these 3.
or you could, you know , take as specialized ship that will do the job BETTER ...
and for anything combat related i would take even SMALL ship over flying bricks like Python or Krait ...
for trade you have type 7 with almost 60% higher cargo capacity ...
if you pick Python over FDL for combat or T7 for trade it just means you are LAZY, nothing more, nothing less
@@Asghaad you're on a crusade, eh? Where is that 60% figure coming from? Python max cargo is 294t, Type 7 is 310t. That's not 60%. There is literally no objective reason to take a Type 7 over a Python for trading. The Python carries sixteen tons less, but is actually combat capable and can land on medium pads. That's a huge benefit for trading and mission running, as well as community goals. Plus the Python has higher survivability and better jump range.
For mining, there's no competition either. The Python will just do it better.

@@Asghaad Don't get me wrong, the python is a nice ship - It makes a great mining ship. I never liked it for combat - it doesn't feel as agile as the Krait Mk 2. Flying the Krait Mk2 especially in combat is fun.
There's very little fun to find in Elite Dangerous, so I'll take it where I can.

Couldn't agree more with this list, and I'm glad I have all of them. Python and Conda are my two work horses of the game and couldn't be happier with them.

I remember back when I had my core mining clipper and thought "I'll get a Conda and move on to Cutter." What actually happened is that once I switched to Conda, I could never switch back to any other ship in its tier. It's just so god damn good at everything; just re-outfit and you could have a new explorer, fighter, miner, trader, passenger liner, or Xeno-hunter. While I haven't had enough credits/engineering to outfit it to the highest performance, it still exceeds in almost everything. It only really falters in solo engagements with other high-tier ships that manage to outmaneuver it.

@@NickHunter For me I haven't really noticed it in supercruize, but in sublight it's really noticeable and sometimes you just sit there for a second while you turn around.
I cutter is a far worse ship, the thing doesn't want to turn at all much prefer my conda to my butt plug.

@@Asghaad frankly, I don't understand how the Python is a medium ship given its size and capability, and the Clipper seems like a medium ship in terms of outfitting and overall size. But I don't make the rules. But the original comment was "large ship", not "big three".
@@Paladin1034 The clipper is on the large category because the engine nacelles do not let it fit in a medium pad.
@Asghaad the Orca is an excellent ship, comparing it with the clipper for combat in hull tank, it has pretty much the same armor, maneuverability and speed, with one less t3 weapon but much better convergence for fixed. I use it for AX combat and it is a very underrated ship.

Krait2 is my Jack of all trades, then I have a stable of specialists.
The DBX was my cobra3 playing this game. I didn't care for trading and the cobras low shields bugged me so when I found out the DBX had the best jump range unengineered with more dps than a vulture I felt extremely powerful. And the overpowered fsd for it's size means even weighted down you can easily get around 30 ly without engineering and that's truly beautiful.
I just bought one tonight, sounds like I made the right choice!
Hi Yamiks, I've only been playing ED for just over a year now but I have the Anaconda and The Cutter and it's a hard choice between the two, The Cutter (when fitted out for cargo) holds about 500 tons which is really good for delivery missions etc but also doubles as a really good passenger/exploratory vehicle too. I use them both heaps and they have a long way to go with engineering so I'm not even getting the best out of them yet, totally agree with you on the Python, love your work :)
I usually don't sell my ships. The Anaconda was one of the few that I did. Was glad to see the back of it. Could not deal with anything that turned that slowly.

Cobra Mk 3 was indeed the best little ship. I sold it for my AspE, but I regretted it somewhat as it was such a pleasure to fly. Glad you ranked it godlike tier.
I expected a wank over the Python and I was not disappointed.
Here's the thing though. You dinged the Corvette for its speed which is a hindrance in PvP. But the Anaconda, as good as it is, is even slower and has less shield. In fact, after you fly a Cutter and a Corvette for a while, Anaconda feels positively glacial, even after you trick out the thrusters. Its DPS is only higher on paper, too (assuming a stationary target and all weapons hitting all the time). Time on target is a thing - arguably, even the Cutter, despite having godawful handling and drift, can output more DPS if fitted right just because it will have easier time keeping up with the targets that play keepaway. Vette just burns things down ASAP because two huge hardpoints have a terrible power.
I really wish Elite wasn't such a clusterfuck. It's got good bones. It would make an amazing single-player game. But Frontier is doing everything it can to run it into the ground.
Yeah I worked really hard to get the cutter but once you hit boost prepare to keep moving in that direction for an age of fire lol.
Put 4 pacifiers frags cannon in the conda and can beat all. That insane DPS cannot be matched by any other ship. It has not the best shield but the DPS yes.
i remember watching some dude's stream and someone asked what early ship he should go for. i said the cobra 3 carried me from less than 1 mil credits to a ship worth about 12 mil and about 5 extra mil in credits.
The cobra made me 100mil in just two days.
Cobra 3 from 1 to 200millions... then added a Python...

That being said, probably because of my ingame persona of a raging Texan Space Cowboy, I will still love my Keelback and Type 10 regardless of how many people laugh at them.
I have every ship in the game and then some on XBOX, I use the Krait MKII for EVERYTHING (except PVE because I can literally just sit there not moving in my engineered 'Vette with turreted beams in a HazRes and kill anything that scans me, even large elite wings, without losing shields). The KRAIT MKII though, DAAAAAMN!

I have an idea you might like: How about you do a closer in depth of some Elite ships and features, how they are bad, and then focus on what the devs should do to make them good (or at least playable)? A; you get to make more snarky videos. B; we get to enjoy more of your snarky videos. And C; I don't think the devs know what they are doing and could use some pointers. (Plus, a video wouldn't require them to read; something I am not sure they can do).

As a proud owner of an ASP x as my first medium ship... it is a fantastic cargo ship with multi-role capabilities. I do miss the combat capabilities of my old cobra, and I have it in storage for when I wanna shoot someone, but I can have DOUBLE the max cargo I got out of a cobra, and that was only possible by stripping the sheild generator and hull reinforcements out

Krait 2 for combat stuff, when I'm in the mood.
Python which is going to be a mining ship.
Type-6 Transporter which I reckon is going to be melted down for scrap.
I really as you can tell, don't like the large ship hulls in Elite Dangerous. They're not fun to fly and those that could be fun require seemingly endless mission running to unlock ranks to open, and even then there's no guarantee they will be enjoyable.

I like the python, i really do, but i can never fly one for long, the cockpit does not allow it.
The only reason I preferred the Krait MkII over the Python, is because of the Large Hardpoint placement. Against Small & Medium Ships, feels easier to hit with all 3 Adv. Plasma Accel. with the former, I only use the SLFs because... well, the Krait supports it.
Plus that the Krait looks somewhat better than the Python, 'specially with their Ship Kits
I've got almost every ship in the game. I have all the big boys. The anaconda is by far the best ship in the game
I find it funny how the same ship manufacturer makes the best small ship, the best medium ship, and the best large ship. I fly all three and I never find something that I can't do with any of them.
@@vogonp4287 yeah De’lacy ships are the best in all classes and the Anaconda in my opinion is the best in almost every way and it looks good too.
If you want to move cargo with varying efficiency, buy a Lakon.
If you want to fly a work of art, buy a Gutamaya.
If you want to move passengers, buy a Saud Kruger.
If you want to be good at things, buy from Faulcon DeLacy.
My Krait mk2 was the first ship i bought after a life of hauling, so its special to me and the one i dedicate hours and hours of build tests and customization. I know is not the best but i dont need nor want anything better.
i can agree to this list, the cobra was a great ship in the start for me, then i went mining with a type 7 for LTDs and in 2 runs i was able to afford a conda, i dont think i will ever use any other big ship than the conda besides a corvette, love the conda..i highly suggest getting it, its able to have 70+ LY jumps
Adding to the OP-ness of the Anaconda is the fact they will literally *give* you one if you fly to Hutton Orbital...

I agree about Anaconda being a GODLIKE ship, but disagree about it being the best ship.
For only one reason:
It is a large ship, thus can not land on Outposts (the orbiting ones, not the planetary ones).
If you want to do certain types of transport-missions (those that give you materials as rewards),
some of them require you to go to such an outpost,
which means you can not do them.
(Yes, you usually have more then one mission that gbives you this rewards AND go to a station with a large pad, but you might have to wait on a board-refresh or you have to change the system you are in... so you are less flexible with the Anaconda.)
So for me, the Krait MKII is the best ship (if you really want to do EVERthing in the game and be as flexible as possible).
However, both of those ship are still not my FAVORITE ships in the game. ;)
For me, I like doing everything in the game and the Conda is perfect for a multi purpose ship. If I can't get a cargo contract, I'll get a lucrative passenger contract or something. And I'm finding that in the course of doing everything, I'm getting plenty of cargo contracts here and there in the process. So I don't feel like I'm missing anything with my Conda experience. Its incredible! And I found an absolutely gorgeous skin in the Livery for the Conda!

I'm living in the krait mk2 atm.
I got my Conda 2 weeks ago, and I couldnt be more happy with it. Its a real beast for combat. The low hull mass allows you to be right there on the Class 7 shield "Optiaml Hull Mass" magical number.
All the ships I got soo far (some I kept till this day): Sidewinder -> Cobra MKIII -> Diamond Explorer -> Type 6 -> ASP Explorer -> Type 7 (horrible heat management) -> Kraith Phantom (one of the best and cheapest mid size ships to get) -> Kraith MKII -> Python -> Clipper (haven't found a real use for it yet) -> Anaconda (The one to rule them all).
Anaconda has a really sad face on top of it when you get the landing window in station! Just wait until you notice it! lmao
Nice work. In my case I am struggling with ship comparisons. I require optional internals that support: vehicle hangers 2h, economy class passenger cabins, and slots for collector, fuel transfer, and repair limpets on a medium sized platform. I am looking at the Krait Phantom, and the Python and they are one optional internal short. I am looking for a coast guard cutter kind of philosophy doing Search and Rescue, salvage, some exploration, and self defense.
Ya right, just include only multipurpose ships yamicks, would've been better if you included the best ship for each role. Like fdl for combat, cutter for trading and piracy and conda for exploration.
The good ships are for the 'best in class' ships, the Godlike tier are for the 'Swiss Army Knife' ships that literally can do any role well. IF you could ONLY own 1 ship in Elite Dangerous and you were stuck in that ship, would you want to be in a FDL, would you really want to try and trade and explore with that bad jump range and cruddy cargo hold? For me, if I could only have 1 ship, it would be the Python or Krait II, leaning towards the Python since I don't really use fighters and like the extra cargo space.
Krait Mk 2 is the best ship in game. Tried the rest and fly the Krait mk 2. The fighter bay more than makes up for the slightly lower stats compared to a python. Additionally, it has much better maneuvering, the best hard point placement in the game, and everything you need for any job. About the Mk2’s hardpoints and why I say it has the best placement in the game is that if on of your weapons can hit a target they all can due to the side + top configuration. There are no hardpoints on the bottom.
IMHO the best configuration for this ship is a ungimballed laser fighter @ highest rank pilot you can obtain and level up + gimballed multicannons and flak cannons. The fighter will eat through the shields quickly and you can finish them off with your multis and flaks.
The drawbacks on the python and anaconda are the hard point placements really. Sure the anaconda can pack a punch, but that only counts if the ship is directly in-front of you. Its slow turn speed cripples it in combat to where 90% of the time only half of your weapons will be firing. Additionally, the cockpit placement is so far back you will feel like you are flying a star destroyer vs x-wing fighters vs any smaller ship. The large hard point is on the bottom, so unless you invert your turn direction (turning down instead of up) expect you will only be hitting it with your top mounted hard points.
Admittedly the python is a great ship but the ship suffers from similar hard point issues as the anaconda. That coupled with the slower turn rate and lack of a fighter bay knock this ship down a peg from top spot.
If you are after a cheap but powerful ship to pvp in the go for the cobra mk 3. Once engineered it can be very powerful.
Still think they need an Anaconda mk2 that has the bottom matching the top. Maybe add a bit more cargo space. Keep everything else.
if bottom matched the top you would LOSE cargo space not gain ...
I'm not saying flatten the ship, just widen and blend the sides of the ship so the lines flow better, like in the Corvette. That would increase cargo/module space.

@@Asghaad Nothing comes free. There will always be trade-offs. Even if some of the module sizes were increased. Like make a class 7 slot a class 8, make a 6 a 7, etc. Scaling up a few modules would help, but it will still be trading one thing for something else in addition to the aesthetic of the ship.

My progression was Sidey, Adder/Hauler, Type 7, Anaconda (sold it after I got my next ship), Vette, Cutter, Exploraconda, Python (I only still own the last 4)
All amazing ships. Others have complained they only do other things decently. Non, these are all ships that do their job WELL, in competition with the specialist ships for capability.
Also the Conda is cheaper and doesn't require rank grinding like the corvette and Clipper.

and no only thing Conda does better than Corvette is exploration and long range trade, anything that doesnt require super long jumprange - which means EVERY OTHER activity in the game - Corvette does better and Cutter is in the same boat just exchanging the "top for combat" for "top for trading" spots
both naval big boys are overall BETTER SHIPS than Conda and have specializations they do better than any other ship in the game just like Conda has her exploration ...

I mean, when I was just space truckin it up running medicines to outbreak worlds, shaving a jump or two off the trip wouldn't be nothing. Though I probably spent more time in Supercruise. Cos you seemed to have to go 50 LY+ to get a supply. Whether that counts as long range trade, I dunno.
This was pre-~personal Narrative~ hyperdrive improvement. Now if I want money I just load up a few collector limpets and go pirate low temp diamonds.
Python is my favorite ship as well. No idea why people complain about the manuverability. I specifically use it because it's good good maneuverability, in contrast to the Anaconda or Cutter or almost any other large ship. I'd use it for everything if it could have a bigger jump range. But since I'm an explorer, I have to stick to ASP Explorer and Anaconda.
Python is also a decent explorer with 60ly jump range with engineering and degrading everything. Ill stick with 55 ly thats enough
The python is actually a passenger transport in disguise, able to carry more passenger modules than any other medium ship
Mine is the galaxy's least reputable transport, cramming nearly a hundred people into it and pulling spine-crushing Gs pulling off the outpost and probably ramming into it and exploding because this clown car has no shields and no brakes

Cobra 3 and Phantom is almost everything i need in this game.
So glad as a new player but a veteran gamer I was able to go straight from the sidewinder to the mk3 to the python to the andaconda knowing with little to no research they are good. Then have amazing experiences with each. And come to find out by elite veterans I made the right choice. now for the fun bit....... engineers..... oh look a shopping list ಠ_ಠ
As a newbie, my ship progression was pretty chaotic... But high points of my journey were the CobraIII, Python, and the Conda, but then I went back to the Python since I like the cockpit placement better, don't like going out for super long mining trips, and like being able to park at outposts. I think I have owned Just about every ship except the Federal locked and Most of the Alliance ships (usually when I go to buy a ship on a whim, the don't have the Alliance ones at the stations I hit)

They should make a Cobra which fits on a Conda as the cockpit/control and you get to detach it for landing or if the Conda blows up. I mean, the shape looks just like the cockpit section of the Conda.
I wound up selling my Python (well, the second one) for a second Krait mk II. Flying the Python just isn't anywhere near as fun to me, specifically the view. Those canopy struts on the Python are in some of the worst spots in my opinion, and so as a miner it's just... Ehhhh, not my thing compared to the Krait. For hauling though, I've kept my Python, as it's just so much easier to cram 200 tons of cargo into a Python.
I am slightly biased though, I love the Krait, it's sounds, and my main exploration vehicle is a Krait Phantom so I've grown rather used to that nice, surprisingly not all that obstructed view the canopy has.
Good choices! Once you have any of these ships, you have access to the whole game. I'd add the Asp Explorer to this list. I have more time in the Python, AspX and Conda vs all the other ships put together.
I love the AspX too but I tend to agree with Yamiks with his placement of the AspX in one tier below these 4. It's a good multi-role but it has only adequate combat performance while these 4 are genuinely good in combat in addition to all their non-combat uses. The AspX's optional slot layout is less flexible for armed merchant builds too because you have to give up too much cargo capacity to get solid shields. It also tends to drift a lot and brakes like it's on banana peels. If it had Krait-like handling, two class 5 instead of a 6 optional slot (I know, that's what makes it great for exploration due to fuel scooping but all these ships have generous numbers of larger optionals for their size) and maybe a size larger power plant (might be overkill but I don't find the AspX power plant anywhere near as generous as these ships), it would belong here.
Krait Phantom kinda fills the ASPX slot and that didn't even make this list
I am more of an explorer/trader/smuggler, so for me the AspX was a really important 20-30m credit ship needed to both get cash plus Fed and Imperial ranks, out at Ceos and Quince as well as trade with outposts pre Python (with a Type 7 for bigger pads). But maybe it's time as a top banana has passed.
Krait MK2, it's basically a python but not quite as good, but has a hanger bay.

Looking this vid 3 hours after buying Anaconda. And... It is really fantastic! I handled some huge things, but never THAT HUGE! It is really, really big. It is enough big for me to feel a bit lost inside, cuz it has more internal(and not only internal) slots then I can use xD

2. Then i bought Asp explorer, but it's not necessary, i just folloved guides, you should better buy Pithon after Cobra.
3. So i bought The best Pithon, it is good for PvE and OK for PvP. It is not FDL though. Passanger missions also best to run using Pithon.
4. And finally i bought Anaconda - The end! Next goes the pvp the social play friends and so on.
DB Explorer - your absolutly needed everiday taxi. Pull your ships to the place you want.
Fer de lance only PvP choise.
Type 9 for mining and trading loops.

I had a type 9 trying to make big money freighting, the thing let me down to raiders twice. I replaced it with a python, and now I actually enjoy the game.

The Cobra Mk III has a major flaw - the lack of class 3 compartments. Wanna use at least minimal (class 3) shields? Sacrifice a big cargo slot. Wanna use a decent fuel scoop that's more than just a last resort for emergencies? Sacrifice another big cargo bay. That's where the Cobra Mk IV is a huge upgrade (besides the abysmal speed). You can fit minimal shields and a decent fuel scoop in that ship and still have more cargo capacity than a Cobra Mk III with no shields and no scoop.
I promise you those who are flying on a max engineered cobra mk3 aren't using it to haul shit your point is moot.

I wanted to say the most godlike ship is the Corvette, as with engineering and guardian booster, its jump range is actually pretty good and therefor can do everything bar PVP. However, I always almost go back to the Anaconda for nearly everything except PVE.
Meh while I love the federal Corvette i always end up going back to my Krait mk2. Yes the Corvette is a godly ship when engineered. Thing is it gets boring because all you have to do is point click delete lol.
I’ve almost never used a Cobra. My progression has been Sidewinder, Hauler, Viper, Diamond Back Scout, Type 6, Type 7, Krait 2.
I would love the cobra 3 if the seat was center, but as it is now, I can’t use it.
The only thing I don't like about the Anaconda is the cockpit placement, if I could fly from that little glass area under the nose, 11/10 perfect ship. I just don't like driving from the back seat on the bus.

Still boggles my mind how the Type7 and the Python have the same cargo capacity.
Even though one of them is much larger, heavier, has less armor, and requires a Large pad instead of medium.

Im new to Elite Dangerous, i just finished mining a lot in my Cobra 3 and have a lot of credits, Im thinking of picking up the Anaconda, given a year has gone past since this video, do you still think its good to pick up for a huge cargo/mining ship TheYamiks? Or is there something new that would be better?
I like the idea of it having huge cargo, and good for mining, AND a fighter hanger. Would you still recommend this or something new?

I have the anaconda and i absolutely love it. Dropped some dosh so I could get the blindingly bright edgelord red neon skin, and went mining. Had enough firepower to fuck over any pirates that wanted my shit, 2 medium slots to powerdick the asteroids into submission, and tons of cargo space to hold the hundreds of limpets i would inevitably eject into the cold void of space where they would forever be, as nobody in their right mind would ever pick up an abandoned limpet

Type 10 is amazing. But flying it in super cruise is terribly annoying. Definitely engineer your thrusters and fsd. I have a combat miner type10 and never have to go reoutfit it. Can lazer/deepcore mine as well as kill any pirates that interdict me along the way.
@@jsf11fra, I have mine set up as a runabout with ridiculous armour and shields because I'm *really* bad at combat. Mine mows everything down.😁

I only start feeling safe to trade when I am inside the Anaconda. It huals huge amount of cargo with armor and gun. Usually the npc priates will die when they want to rob me.
