- For this video we traveled to Oakland, CA to get to know the city by talking to the people who call it home. The resulting documentary visits independently-owned businesses-looking at bikes at Manifesto, magazines at Issues and Bakesale Betty's fried chicken sandwich-as well as spends a little quality time with artist Nat Russell. Last but not least, we climb the clock tower with machinist Kevin Binkert, who maintains the landmark.
I love this!
Great job on the video! Finally something positive about Oakland. :)
Tacos Sinaloa on 22nd ave.!! MY FAVORITE FOOD IN OAKLAND!
nice. more city profiles, please.
How cool. I love Oakland. I live in Berkeley. I just ate a chicken sandwich and piece of the best apple pie in the world today at Bakesale Bettys! I wonder what I'll do in the winter. It'll be too cold and rainy to sit outside on the sidewalk and eat on the old ironing boards ...
yay new coolhunting video!
ahh that's home, I miss it so much.
This makes me homesick :(
I'm live there! but, I havn't really been around oakland because I've always been busy in berkeley and albany. how sad... next time i'm back in the bay I'll have to explore oakland and sf more.
I'd love to see a video of places highlighting more people of color who own small businesses too that represents Oakland, but can't complain about this cool vid. Well done!
@jaeshawn yes please do
looks cold for california
Though probably done unintentionally, these folks are simply unaware....hopefully our collective comments will lead to more reality in the future ...big up to all for taking folks to task....Go Bears!!!!
yea
Hey Cool Hunting people, what's up with the lack of diversity in this video?
Wait guys. They did feature a couple a black guys, remember. They were riding bikes, no doubt to contribute to a lower emissions rate ;) Better try next time. It must have been difficult to feature Oakland without any diversity
did not get
i didn't say it was a rational fear; It would probably come from a lack of familiarity with those areas, resulting in feelings of skepticism and aversion.
Please don't assume that what i said necessarily applies to me.
Yeah, I could have sworn there were black people in Oakland when I was there a few weeks ago, but I guess not.
The Banh Mi shop is located in Chinatown. p.s. Not all of the producers of this video are white.
maybe the person making the video was afraid to go to some of those places where there's more diversity
That's the thing, it's a word of mouth/ "telephone" structure... and clearly white folk don't talk to black folk in Oakland. [FTR: I'm being facetious, work in Oakland, am white, and make it a policy not to talk to the white hipsters who "live" here.]
i'm white, and born and raised in oakland. but if this is the only slice of oakland that can be put forth for "cool" considerations, i'd proudly much rather continue being the disliked city of the bay.
