That's why you shouldn't always judge a book by it's cover. There are many different kinds of people. The reason people judge books by their cover is usually because they understand the people they grew up around and seen but never traveled outside their city or state and met different people. Widening your perspective and seeing other people's perspective on things. That's how you get a mature opinion and ideas about people and the world. I urge people to travel. While being safe! Haha
Joey Santore literally got me into growing because of his channel. He's a great teacher and great character. A good and wonderful sharing man. Learning while laughing. Wonderful. I'm on my second year garden and growth.
This is probably my favourite episode so far - Joey is so charismatic and those answers so clear! Talk about a stylish delivery too! Definitely makes me want to learn more about this subject :)
I really enjoyed how Joey regularly used technical terms, and then explained them in layman's words. This made the video so enjoyable and educational. Awesome, thank you!
Tech Support videos (WIRED) are so interesting and entertaining, love them, and this one might the best one yet. Mr Santore really knows his stuff and the language is easy to understand. Got me really wanting a plant right now.
i really love how even if some of the questions were really basic and not as complex, he still gives really detailed answers without caring about how simple/easy the question might seem
Dude, I could listen to Joey the Sage Santore talk about plants for hours. By far, this is the most amazing video I’ve watched in a long while. I like the articulate and focused responses he gave which were juxtaposed with his accent, attitude, and tattoos. #1 contender for all-time Botany Badass. Love the passion and wisdom. Chefs kiss
I think he will be careful about what gigs or endorsements he takes. If you've watched his videos for a long time you probably know how he feels about all that. But I agree! Him and his brand are really starting to grow which is awesome to see!
His channel is amazing. He has an unbelievable amount of knowledge on each plant he identifies. It’s fricken off the charts! He got me through the pandemic, got me interested in my own local environment. He is a gem!
I was hopeless with plants growing up but randomly became an expert during the pandemic. I started by experimenting with different types of plants and using a plant identification app. After that, I went to gardening stores and started buying any plant that looked interesting. Now I have a ton of plants and have become part of a huge community of plant lovers that I didn't know existed! ❤
Been watching for about half a year, wish I had seen his channel way sooner. Nobody quite educates about the natural world like he does in a entertaining, engaging, often funny manner, and I tend to even appreciate his nihilistic rants about humanity. Started out with the Chile, Australia, New Caledonia playlists. The enthusiasm is contagious.
This dude sounds like he's in the mafia, heavily tattooed like a movie villain, shows attitude like a mobster, and totally explained quite a lot of my plant keeping failures. Love it.
It ain’t racism, it’s stereotype. And you can blame the movies for that, not this person. Plus they specifically said “like ~”, implying that he is not those things, but has the same charm they would.
@Colton Price, also, it’s not odd to give someone a second check just because they have tattoos. If you look at onsen (“bath houses” I think it’s translated to?), they usually won’t allow anyone with a tattoo in due to them having too much of a relation with the Japanese Yakuza. You may be able to slip on by if you’re a foreigner and “gaijin smash” your way in but even then they have the right to turn you down.
@@coltonp7149 Notice that he uses the word “like” and you used the word “is.” When the word “like” is used comparatively, it is a literary device known as a simile. Very weird how you tweaked the original comment to say what you wanted it to say

My understanding of why Durian smells so bad is that in its natural habitat there's a large range between trees. The primary consumer of the fruit in the wild is the Orangutan. So the extreme smell is a way for the fruit to be easily found, consumed, and the seeds spread

I've worked in landscaping and have met several tattooed/rough and tumbled guys who have taught me more about plants than anyone else! One guy could tell you what any type of mushroom was just by looking at it
That's why you shouldn't always judge a book by it's cover.
Wonderful. I'm on my second year garden and growth.
growing what
Absolutely loved this video, the charisma on this man is insane.
He's got an awesome UA-cam channel. Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't.
Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t is his channel. Great stuff.
This is probably my favourite episode so far - Joey is so charismatic and those answers so clear! Talk about a stylish delivery too! Definitely makes me want to learn more about this subject :)
I can't believe you got Joey on here. This guy is so underrated
I hope his channel blows up after this, he deserves it
14:50 _“Open up a f*ckin Organic Chemistry textbook, you know, rather than watching some hippy snake oil salesman on UA-cam”_ 🤣😂 I love this guy.
Yep gotta be my fav part.
So true and that they forgot to bleep it surprised me lol
What is wrong with me that I am dissatisfied and mildly angry about not being told," GFY bye!"
Joey Santore is an amazing inspiration. This dude absolutely rocks and I'm glad to see him increase his platform.
This guy and the Mortician Support guy, the vibes are just perfect and they seem really excited to share what they know.
I appreciate it when Joey interjects with a scientific name/term and then explains what it means.
Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't is one of greatest online joys. I could listen to this guy read a stack of restaurant menus.
He is a brilliant teacher. Best of all anyone with yt can tale his classes for free
Chefs kiss
I got you! 🤙🏼
Here’s his channel:

Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't my dude
This guy is so cool. Not what one thinks a botanist would be like.
Joeys about to get those tv deals I’m so stoked to see him succeed
I think he will be careful about what gigs or endorsements he takes. If you've watched his videos for a long time you probably know how he feels about all that. But I agree! Him and his brand are really starting to grow which is awesome to see!
@@SomethingSeemsOff I'm just happy to see him doing well 🤘
His channel is amazing. He has an unbelievable amount of knowledge on each plant he identifies. It’s fricken off the charts! He got me through the pandemic, got me interested in my own local environment. He is a gem!
got me through the pandemic too!!
Please more Joey. One of the best scientific educators out there
Please bring this wise guy back.
Not what I was expecting, but, as with most things it was even better.
This guy rocks!
His channel is Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t. I follow him and get to watch new videos every few days. Totally worth the time!
I adore this man. I could sit here and listen to him for hours just absorbing knowledge. I sincerely hope he teaches. I really really hope he does
Joey is a gift to this world. I've been following him for years. Thank you so much for featuring him here. This was awesome.
Joey is a treasure. Crime Pays but Botany doesn't almost always makes me grin for hours, while at the same time learning new factlets about botany.
@ Joey Santore good to see you getting the publicity you deserve. Keep teaching, show the children authenticity and knowledge.
I spent 2020 lockdown evenings getting high and cleaning my kitchen, listening to Joey drone on about plants. Phenomenal times
This is easily one of my favorite Tech Support videos! Bring this guy back if he's willing - I could listen to him talk about plants for hours.
This dude sounds like he's in the mafia, heavily tattooed like a movie villain, shows attitude like a mobster, and totally explained quite a lot of my plant keeping failures. Love it.
So he is a villain, a mobster, and must be a criminal due to having tattoos. Got that racism on a low simmer, huh bud.

Notice that he uses the word “like” and you used the word “is.” When the word “like” is used comparatively, it is a literary device known as a simile. Very weird how you tweaked the original comment to say what you wanted it to say
Why are y’all still talking? I didn’t invite conversation, I just stated a fact. Move on?
He is my favorite plant professor wizard. I really appreciate the way he just answers the questions without being mean to you for not knowing. He's a national treasure.
This man could talk down my anxiety like nobody's business, I feel so relaxed listening to him 😂
Been watching Joey since he was 1000 subscribers. Could listen to this guy all day even tho I'm not a plant enthusiast myself.
He’s about to get a huge bump in subs. I’ve been there since about 25k. He’ll be at a million someday easily.
Mr Santore has come a long way, so awesome to see him getting more and more recognition on YT!
Best support video I have seen. This botanist has such a clear and fluent presentation of his subject matter! Amazing.
My understanding of why Durian smells so bad is that in its natural habitat there's a large range between trees. The primary consumer of the fruit in the wild is the Orangutan. So the extreme smell is a way for the fruit to be easily found, consumed, and the seeds spread
Do they smell "bad" tho? I always thought they just have a strong smell. Strong smell doesn't necessarily mean bad smell. Just a smell but with higher intensity.
@@justguy-4630 People who aren't familiar with the scent often describe it as meaty and rotten smelling when they first smell it. I thought it smelled like old urinal cakes and porta-potty, in my experience!
Joey is the only thing I miss about Instagram. Luckily his YT channel is second to none when it comes to information about plants I didn't know I needed. And I monitor vegetation professionally. Botany or Death
user photo checks out
Love seeing Joey becoming know. Been following this dude for a while now.
Seriously one of the best Support vids they've made. JSantore's delivery is super accessible. Learned a bunch and may actually remember it.
Love to see Joey get the exposure he deserves. Hopefully it will grow his support and allow him to do more videos exploring and documenting rare plants in exotic places. Even the ones on the Kankakee river.
Love this channel. Thank you Joey for hanging in there and creating a place for us all to become engaged in botany.
This dude is so cool and has such respect for plants, man I love him
I can't believe how many people in the comments don't know who Joey is. His youtube channel is amazing. I love his brashness and honest truth. It's so weird seeing him out of his normal element, but he's so incredibly smart.
This man made me realize the connection between the words orchid and orchiectomy. Love that
This guy is so good. I couldn’t stop listening to him. So clear how passionate and knowledgable he is about botany. Genuinely inspired!
This guy cut all the BS and kept it so real while discussing plants. Give this man a TV show.
he already has a sucessful youtube channel! www.youtube.com/@CrimePaysButBotanyDoesnt/
He has one. It's called: crime pays but botany doesnt. it's amazing
He has one, it's called Kill Your Lawn, check it out.
@elkippy what? Is this a joke
@@ravenoctober9936 Lawns are jokes
Thank you for callong out iNaturalist!! Such an amazing app.
I'm so glad Joey got featured on Wired to share his knowledge with a wider audience. There's an entire universe outside of the world humans created. Learning about plants is good for your brain and good for the plants.
I hope his channel blows up after this, he deserves it
More of this guy. I want to just sit and have a beer or five with him and ask him everything about plants.
Subscribe to his channel called ‘Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t’. He has 500 videos.
One of my favorites in the series. Great info and swagger 😊
The coolness and chill of this guy makes me feel seen as a plant parent who's neither lonely nor a mass murderer
Joey is extremely entertaining and informative on IG and YT. Glad ya’ll chose him!
This guy is definitely one of the coolest botanists I have ever seen. I'd crush beers with this guy.
I love this dude. Have seen almost all his vids and i still can't get used to him showing his face.
That was my first reaction as well! The tattoos on his hands/arms I recognize but not the face haha!
"ITCHY SCRATCHY CROWS FEET" still gets me. First time I saw his face.
It's so strange and new.. and great!
