Gloomy winter's noo awa', saft the westlin' breezes blaw Amang the birks o' Stanley Shaw, the mavis sings fu' cheery o Sweet the crawflower's early bell, decks Glennifer's dewy dell Bloomin' like your bonnie sel', my ain my darlin' dearie o Come my lassie let us stray o'er Glennifer's sunny brae And blythely spend the gowden day 'midst joys that never weary o Towerin' o'er the Newton woods, lavrocks fan the snaw white clouds And siller saughs wi' downy buds, adorn the banks sae briery o Round the sylvan fairy nooks, feathery brackens fringe the rocks And 'neath the brae the burnie jouks, and ilka thing is cheery o O trees my bud and birds may sing, flowers may bloom and verdure spring But joy tae me they cannae bring, unless wi' you my dearie o
Met Mr Fraser at high games, I asked him" when" he played next set , he thought I asked WHAT he played, he said "fiddle ", I burst into laughter,,( I'm a fiddler also I knew full well he played fiddle) I responded "no no, WHEN do you play next?" I ll NEVER forget that that moment with him.. Long Peak highland games 199+ ?
I love Natalie’s playing more than any other cellist. I could take a steady diet of this. There a a great many wonderful fiddlers, of whom Alasdair is one, but how many cellists?
Anyone else notice this is the same tune as "the heart asks pleasure first" by Michael Nyman? it's the theme from the movie "The Piano"... gorgeous tune.
@@Popcorn-eh4le It's Gloomy Winter's Noo Awa' by the great Scots composer Robert Tannahill, deployed beautifully by Michael Nyman, but unfortunately with scant to no credit to the composer.
Michael Nyman arranges Henry Purcell too, in soundtrack to Peter Greenaway's Draughtsman's Contract film, but Purcell isn't always credited. @@jameshamilton6209 Tannahill wasn't a composer but a poet: he just added words, on request, to the traditional slow-strathspey Lord Balgonie's Favourite.
Thank you Mr. Naylor, for your correction. Of course, his was a setting to a traditional tune. I was listening to Beethoven's Scottish song settings on the radio a couple of weeks ago and I think I heard the theme again. I haven't had occasion yet to check on this. Thanks again!@@clivenaylor5392
I would marry either one of the Haas sisters just for the perk of being around the house when they practice. Everything they do is gold. I always end up at one of their videos in the most roundabout ways.
you prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me atm you can watch all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of weeks =)
